1 Issue: Number 16 Date: 5th February 2016 Haberdashers Aske s Hatcham College Middle School J e r n i n g h a m R o a d L o n d o n S E N Y T e l : e m a i l : h r e c e p t i o h a h c. o r g. u k W e b s i t e : w w w. h a a f. o r g. u k Hatcham 7 - Prendergast 3 The year 8 team put in a solid performance to defeat Prendergast Ladywell Fields 7 3 on a rain soaked afternoon in the Blackheath cup. The year 8 Hatcham team were aiming to reach the semi-finals of the Blackheath Cup for the second year in a row and got off to the perfect start when Ronaldo Dunkley ran on to an inch perfect through ball and scored, 1-0 Hatcham. It was a well-deserved lead and reward for some good early attacking play from the Hatcham team. Ronaldo Dunkley got himself on the score sheet again for Hatcham s second goal, out muscling a defender and then smashing a low drive into the far corner of the goal, 2-0 Hatcham. A defensive lapse at the back with Hatcham failing to clear their lines resulted in Prendergast pulling a goal back to make it 2-1. This was a harsh scoreline at the time, as Hatcham had dominated the match and had created several chances. Jahlique Green in particular was causing havoc in the Prendergast defence and was eventually rewarded with a brilliant solo goal to give Hatcham a 3-1 lead. After nutmegging the opposition left back, Jahlique Green proceeded to roll the ball past a second defender and side step a third, before curling his shot into the top corner, 3-1 Hatcham.Against the run of play Prendergast scored a 2 nd goal, through a deflected shot, which looped over Perez Barimah in the Hatcham goal to make it 3-2 Hatcham. For all the year 8s great passing and possession play, their forth goal came from a long defensive clearance. Ronaldo Dunkley again had the beating of the Prendergast defence, using his speed and strength to run onto the ball and drive a shot into the far corner, 4-2 Hatcham at half time. Despite being told at half time to keep it tight for the first 5 minutes, Hatcham conceded an early second half goal. A miss hit clearance fell to one of the Prendergast strikers on the edge of the six yard box, who then blasted home from close range to make the score 4-3 to Hatcham. This finally seemed to signal the wakeup call Hatcham needed, as they would go on to score 3 second half goals without reply. Tobi Ogunjimi making his debut for the team went on to score 2 goals, with Khoumari Lee- Tullock scoring a goal in between. The 7-3 scoreline was flattering, as Hatcham could and should have easily hit double figures with missed chances; fine goal keeping and the woodwork keep the score down to 7 goals. The year 8s now march on into the semi-finals of the Blackheath Cup where they await their opponents. Their next fixture will be against Kingsdale School for a place in the London Cup Quarter Finals. Well done Boys! PE Department Dear parents, Following on from my earlier in the week I am pleased to inform you that reports have now been sent out for all year groups in the Middle School. The reports are based on the teacher s grades submitted in early January. Please bring any questions to the parents next week for year 9 or on the 24th February for year 8. Only English, Mathematics, Science and Art are using the new assessment system at the moment; the other subjects will join the new system from the next round of assessments which will take place at the beginning of April. The other subjects are using the old national curriculum levels for the last time broken down 4c, 4b, 4a, 5c, 5b, 5a, 6c etc.. Please note the behaviour grades: 1 = outstanding 2 = good 3 = needs to improve 4 = cause for concern If your child has any 4 grades then I would ask you to contact her/his form tutor as an urgent priority. I look forward to talking to many of you at the up coming parent s. Finally thank you to everyone that helped with the FACS quiz; nearly 600 raised - thank you! To serve to obey, Mr O Regan

3 The Multicultural Evening was a great success with 18 different countries represented with stalls and other events and a large number of students, parents and staff involved. The cuisine and drinks were plentiful and exciting plus we also enjoyed workshops dancing Kizomba from Portugal and singing with the College Gospel Choir. For the first time we had an African theme Pop Up Market setting out a range of goods for sale and free make overs with some of the beauty products. As ever the event was very colourful with the many beautiful national dresses worn and the atmosphere amazing. The 6th form were fantastic in their participation and in particular, Ruth Acquah helped to organise the event. Thank you to everyone who got involved in any way. Ms Arnell, Senior Teacher
