1 Newsletter 2016/68 Dear Parents, 13 July 2016 website: Mrs Thompson Burton Green Bonus This week s news End of Year Reports went out this week, I hope that you have received your child s. Over the last two weeks I have read what the teachers have written about each of the children and the over-arching view that I have received is what a tremendous amount of effort and hard work has gone in a wide variety of learning opportunities this year, both by children and adults. I hope you will take the opportunity on Monday evening to come along and look at your child s books and share with them some of their special moments of Thank you to everybody who supported our Summer Fayre on Friday evening by sending in donations, helping on stalls and just coming along. It felt as if everybody was enjoying a lovely evening and even the weather was kind to us. As a result a massive 2,100 was raised. We come to our final week with many events planned, all are listed below. Please come along and join us. Next Thursday please come dressed ready for Sports Day in your house colour if possible. Celebration Assembly Thursday 14th July at 9.05am Truly Brilliant Maple: Thomas Cedar: Hannah Damson: Josh R Oak: Willow Mrs Patterson: Felix, Nicole, Kiyan, Rohan P Megatastic Multiple Challenge: Ted, Stephen, Emily, Keira, Lois, Tia, Annie, Thea, Giorgio Mathlete of the Week: Foundation: Molly KS1: Callum W KS2: Stephen Raising the Roof: Lucio, Faye, Holly, Bronwynn, Thomas, Nicolas, Louis, Lewis M Cricket Certificates: For all Years 4 and 5 Class News Maple: We are enjoying programming Beebots in I.C.T. and are looking forward to having a go using them on the Ipads. We are going to be hunting for minibeasts this week in Science too! Cedar: We have enjoyed reading monster poems and generating ideas for our own monster poems. We have also been learning about life at the seaside in Victorian times. Damson: We have been very busy programming with Lego Mindstorms and Scratch. Also we have been making sandals and shoes in D.T. Oak: We have been busy in Oak Class preparing for our end of year Garden Party. Some of us have also been out visiting our new Secondary Schools and four children (Iona, Beth, Charles and Jago) have represented Burton Green in a Maths Challenge at Kenilworth High School this week too. Sports Report On Wednesday 6 th July both Year 1 classes from Burton Green and All Saints enjoyed a morning of fun during our multi-skills festival at Burton Green. The children enjoyed a range of activities focussing on developing skills in cooperation, coordination, dribbling, balancing, throwing and running, amongst others. Thank you to Year 6 pupils for all their help running the events! Cricket Festival On Wednesday 6th July 2016, Damson class (year 4-5) travelled to Kenilworth Cricket Club for the Kenilworth Cricket festival (year 5 festival.) Damson class definitely had an enjoyable time. Usually, more schools from Kenilworth or (near to) would come to the exciting event but the festival was smaller due to the rescheduled date. At around 9:30am, Damson class arrived at Kenilworth Cricket Club for the festival. Then, all the schools (Park Hill, Leek Wootton and Burton Green) had a pep talk from the leading coach (Kelly). The Burton Green teams were called more exciting names than a, b and c. We were called the Tornadoes, Hurricanes and the Cyclones. The Tornadoes were competing in the A league for the Kenilworth title and the Hurricanes and Cyclones competed in the B and C leagues for the enjoyment of winning. Although, naturally it was more important that everyone had fun and improved their cricket in match conditions. After a lot of cricket and sporting opportunities the scores came out. The Tornadoes, after winning their first two matches and competing in the final, unfortunately lost to Park Hill A team, who played great cricket.the Tornadoes

graciously accepted the defeat and were proud runners-up. The Hurricanes won all of their games winning their league after narrowly defeating Park Hill E team with some great catches and bowling.

We had to admire the Park Hill E team s consistence and effort. The Cyclones played two out of three games but had brilliant games when they played them. Overall, the tournament was a success and thoroughly amazing. All teams had a variety of brilliant catches, runs and bowls and showed amazing sportsmanship. Damson Class can t wait for another opportunity like this! By Ted C (Tornadoes) and Rohan R (Hurricanes) End of Year Events at a Glance Wednesday July 13 th 8pm Mums Night Out Join us at Hickory Smoke House Thursday 14 th July 4.30 Glow Club Drama Performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Everyone is invited to come along and watch our final performance of the year. Also parents of children at Glow Animation are invited to come along as their children s work will also be involved in this production. Friday 15 th July Dance Assembly 3.00 Parents are invited to join with us to watch a performance by our early morning Dance Club. Monday 18 th July Teddy Bears Picnic Maple Class Reception children invite pre-school siblings and children joining us in Reception 2016, to come along for the Teddy Bears Picnic. Open Evening Join us from as part of an informal evening to look at your children s achievements and enjoy displays around the school. Wednesday July 20 th 2.00 Year 6 Garden Party Year 6 will be sharing memories of their time at Burton Green with family and friends. Thursday July 21st 9.05 Celebration Assembly Our final celebration assembly of the term Sports Day 1.30 Track events - all children. Parents welcome to join us. Please come to school in your sports kit, Key Stage 2 wear a tee shirt in your house colour if you have one Year 6 Farewell Social Our traditional staff v Year 6 ten pin bowling challenge Friday July 22nd The Last day! Moving on Assembly 9.05 Please join us for our final assembly which includes presentations to Year 2 as they move into Key Stage 2, and presentations to Year Break up for Summer Tuesday September 5th Return to school Friends of Burton Green Making a difference! 100 Club is 1 Year Old Please renew your numbers and be part of our monthly draw. You have to be in it to win it! SUNDAY 9 th OCTOBER 2016 Online Registration open Online entries are pouring in. Register now or you may miss out. Go to and search for green leek 10k. You do have to register on runbritain prior to registering for Green Leek Everybody is able to support this event by buying a special T- shirt featuring the names of all pupils in the Green Leek Federation. An order form has been sent out. Please order ASAP. Many thanks to people who have already registered. If you have any friends who would like to run or are a member of a sports club please come and get a poster or flyer to put up or give out.

Young and More Mature London Visit To support our Year 6 learning themes, in our Green Leek Schools, in the Autumn Term we have arranged a visit to London on 14th November. We have arranged tours of The Houses of Parliament and the Churchill War Rooms. Details will be sent to Year 6 in September. We would like to make this a community event and I would like to invite older members of Burton Green Community to take advantage of a coach trip to London. I have not booked visits for adults but if you would like to join us on the coach and then arrange your day in London you would be most welcome.
