Autumn Term Issue 8: 10th November 2017 On Monday 13th November we will kick off our anti bullying week in school. The week will start with a special assembly and the children will be invited to take part in activities throughout the week. To show our support for anti bullying week we invite everyone to come to school on Monday wearing odd socks- the crazier the better!! Thank you to our PSA for running our very successful fireworks event! Also thank you to all of our families who attended. Key Stage One went outside this week and recreated some artwork in the style of Andy Goldsworthy! Goldsworthy is a British artist who uses only natural materials to create his work. Thank you to our parents who attended a parent consultation appointment this week. If you did not manage to come and would like to make an appointment, please speak to your child s teacher in the playground afterschool. Thank you to Mrs Wallace who has very kindly volunteered to help with gardening around the school.
On Friday 17th November we will be fundraising for Children in Need. Our School Parliament has decided to run a Dress as a Bear event and a Hunt the Round Pound challenge! Join in the fun and come to school dressed as a bear (or in spotty clothes if you d prefer) for a donation to Children in Need. Millions of the old pound coins are still in circulation but can no longer be used in shops. They can still be collected by Children in Need and be put to good use! Start your Hunt the round pound - look in savings jars, piggy banks, coat pockets and down the back of the sofa! Mrs Bunting will have a Pudsey picture in the hall which we are hoping to completely fill with old pound coins! It's always pleasing when our children want to challenge themselves and cross country racing certainly provides this opportunity. On Wednesday the team represented the school in the second of the races at Par. We were thrilled to return to school with 12 personal best performances. Some of the children improved their previous position by more than 20 places. The team spirit was high and the children all supported and encouraged each other. It was great to see our year 6 children leading the warm up and giving advice to the younger members of the team. Our stand out performers this time were Tom in 3rd, Jake in 10th, Ella May in 6th and George in 8th. Huge well done to the rest of the team too - Tyler, Theo, James, Izzy, Lilly, Mollie, Demi, David, Rio, Emily, Amelia, Roxanne, Freya H. There are still places on our team and we particularly need more year 4 boys and year 5 girls. See Mrs Clarke for more info and a consent form.
In Key Stage Two we have been making our own Growth Mindset posters to go in the village shop. Here are some of our ideas! Instead of saying 'I'm too stupid to do this' try saying 'It would be boring if we were all the same' - Jessica Lake. Instead of saying 'My friends are smarter than me' try saying ' I will learn from them' - George Randles. Instead of saying ' I can't do this, it's too tricky' try saying ' I can do this, I'll give it a go' - Lily May Summers. Instead of saying ' This is too hard' try saying 'I can learn from what I did wrong' - Ashley Rundle We are very proud to tell you that a group of our children have formed an action group to raise money for local charities. They have decided to call themselves the C.C.G. (Children s Charity Group) This idea was thought of at Brownies during a crocheting session. Their first event is a Coffee morning to which you are all warmly invited. This will take place on Tuesday 21 st November from 8.45am to 9.45am in the Thrive room. Tuesday 21st November 8:45am to 9:45am The money raised from this event will be donated to one of our fellow students Aiden Phillips. (Believe in Aiden) We look forward to welcoming you, there will be a range of refreshments for sale.
Do not park on the double yellows Do not park on or opposite the Zig-Zags Do not park across resident s driveways These are examples of poor parking witnessed and sent in by parents. We also received the following from a concerned parent: On Friday afternoon I witnessed an adult who was picking up a child from the school be very rude to the lollipop lady. I felt really sorry for her and disgusted to see her being treated in that way when she is just doing her job. The man in question had parked opposite the school where he shouldn t have and she had asked him to move but he refused. I was more concerned about his behaviour than the parking. Our lollipop lady is employed for the safety of your child. Abusive behaviour towards staff is unacceptable. Marjorie James phoned and left a message on the answerphone to say how impressed she was with the children from Tywardreath School when they were out trick and treating on Halloween night. She said they were very polite! Well done!
Harry and Alfie scored for Tywardreath they were two great goals! Fowey scored two good goals too. Possession wise, Tywardreath had about 75% anf Fowey had 25%. When it comes to shots on target, Tywardreath had about ten roughly and Fowey had about five roughly. Our goalkeeper, Henry, made some amazing saves and Fowey s goalkeeper also made some spectacular saves. The final score was 2-2 four great goals! Reporter: Harry B yr3/4 match On Tuesday we played Fowey away from home. We were playing well but they made it 1-0 then we cracked under pressure and they made it 2-0. We got a goal back to make it 2-1 then they kept their two goal lead and made it 3-1. We got one back from a mistake made by their keeper. Then they finished off by making it 4-2. The conditions were not on our side which meant it was hard for the keepers and defenders. Our players were: Joel, William, Tom, Gabriel, David, Sennen, Finn, Alex, Ronnie and George. On Tuesday, we played Fowey Primary School. Everybody played brilliantly. A couple of minutes into the match, Fowey scored the first goal. In the second half, Fowey scored a couple more goals. In the final quarter, we scored a goal. After it went back to centre we made some great passes and we scored again! The final score was 8-2 to Fowey. We played really well as a team. Well done Tywardreath School! Our team for the game were Jake, (captain), Elliott, Harvey, Frankie, Lilly, Emily, Bonnie and Mollie. Reporters: Jake and Elliott Reporters: Joel and Will yr5/6 This week Little Gerrans opened their new outdoor role play area! They have turned a corner of our outdoor area into a potion workshop! The Little Gerrans have loved creating their own potions! This new area will really help with the children's communication and language skills.
