It has been wonderful seeing all of the children returning to school excited and eager to learn and keen to enjoy the spring sunshine too! This term is a busy one with our Year 6 children taking their end of Key Stage assessments during the week of the 14 th May and our Year 2 children completing their assessments during the following weeks. It is vital that your children are in school for these National tests, if there is any problems then please contact the school office. As usual we will be offering a free Breakfast Club during the week of 14 th May for our Year 6 children. This ensures the children have a healthy meal in preparation for their tests. We also encourage them to bring in a water bottle and healthy snack to eat between tests. This term is also very busy with sporting competitions. You can keep up to date with how well we are doing with Mr L s Sporting News in each newsletter. 6 Some wish for it we work for it It was time for Temple Ewell s annual girls football competition which we host at our very own George V playing field. Our girls have a magnificent record at our home pitch and have turned it into somewhat of a fortress. The girls are unbeaten here for the last two years but were facing some tough opposition this year. The team was brimming with confidence as they were the current Dover and Deal District champions with an emphatic display at the competition earlier this year. The girls have a tremendously well balanced side capable of scoring at will and also being resolute in defence. Worth, The Downs and St Margaret s were invited to attend our competition as they are now in our Quad. Our afternoon of scintillating football began with our first game against Worth school who have made an incredible improvement this year. Our girls started brightly, dispatching two early goals through Holly and Amelia. The good play continued with Amelia finishing off another attacking move. We continued to press and Freya's long throw caused chaos eventually finding its way to Holly who impressively turned and swivelled on the half volley nestling the ball into the bottom corner. Holly wasn t finished as she notched again as she prodded home from close range reminiscent of vintage Van Nistelrooy. The game finished 5-0, a statement of intent from a ruthless side. Our second game was against a good St Margaret's side who were strong and well organised. The game started brightly with Temple Ewell dominating earlier possession. Abi, the driving force in midfield continued her tenacious and relentless effort forcing errors in the St Margaret s defence. Abi capitalised by firing the ball passed the goalie. Solid work from Delphi found herself in a space, she slid the ball to Holly who was one on one with the goalie. Once again she came out on top and scored. St Margaret s carried on regardless and created a great opportunity but Katie D in the Temple Ewell goal made an excellent save. Katie was called into action again but unfazed she made the save and the game finished 2-0 to Temple Ewell. The last match was against The Downs who had also won their first two matches meaning the winner of this game wins the tournament. We dominate the early exchanges but a flurry of chances went begging as we couldn t capitalise on the possession. Against the run of play, The Downs scored a very good goal. This was new territory for the girls as they hadn t been behind in a game this year. Freya rallied the side around her and the girls responded. The girls pushed forward and dug deep. Abi and Honey s relentless battling allowed Amelia to gain possession higher up the pitch. Amelia, a dangerous player in possession, shuffled her feet cleverly and beat her defender and smashed the ball towards the goal from a long range. The impressive Downs goalie made a terrific save yet again however the power behind the shot meant she could only parry. Holly like all good poachers was equal to it and made no mistake this time and fired it home, levelling the scores. Momentum was again in full swing in our favour and the girls dominated the remaining time. Ava drove forward with the ball and found Abi, Abi played Freya the ball. Freya bullied her way through the St Margarets team, passing to Amelia. She turned brilliantly and gave the ball to Holly with David Silva-esque vision. Holly finished the free following move with a cute finish into the corner. The game ended 2-1 to Temple Ewell. Another cultured performance from the girls who found themselves too strong for the opposition, winning a second competition of the year and more importantly playing some outstanding football. They achieved 9 points, scored 9 goals and only conceded one. The girls have been a joy to train and seeing the progression of these girls is quite remarkable. The will to win is important, but the will to prepare is vital.
7 Gymnastics Competition After a wonderful Easter Service performed by Sycamores class, some of the children were whisked off to the annual Dover District Gym Competition held at Dover Gymnastics Club. Traditionally we have performed well at this competition finishing 4 th in Kent a few years ago. Once again we entered three teams into the competition with one team in each category. We entered a year 1/2, year 3/4 and year 5/6 team. There are four children in each team who all have to perform 3 routines each; body management, a vault and a floor routine. The children were scored on each routine. They were then combined for an overall team score and position. It is a notoriously difficult event as each child performs their routines as all the other schools and gymnasts watch on in silence. Year 1/2 team consisted of Loen, Emmie, Charlotte and Oscar. Year 3/4 team consisted of Sadie, Lilly, Sophia and James. The year 5/6 team consisted of Ruby, Abi, Amelia and Mason. Unfortunately, Ruby was poorly on the day however she put in the same amount of preparation and dedication as the others. All the team performed their routines superbly, all rising to the occasion. We had another clean sweep with each team winning their category. An excellent effort meaning we have qualified for the county finals representing Dover and Deal. I am so proud all of all these children as it is a difficult event and can be extremely daunting. The fears we don t face become our limits. Looking Good half way to being good A massive thank you to Jo Holness (Katie's Mum) who through Ramsgate Social Club have donated a substantial amount of money to invest in a beautiful football kit. The kit is available to be used for both boys and girls football teams. We finally have a kit which is as quality as the players in it. Donations and contributions are greatly appreciated. The parent support we receive really help the teams perform on and off the sports field. Thanks kindly Mr L.
