1 Autumn Term Issue 5: 12th October 2018 We are now preparing for our annual fireworks display! I would like to thank our very dedicated PSA members for the huge amount of planning that has already taken place in preparation for this event. If you would like to help support this event, please let the office know. We are looking for extra marshals and people prepared to help in the food tent. PRIORITY TICKETS FOR PARENTS ONLY will go on sale on Monday 15th October until Thursday 18th October (in the school playground from 3.05pm) From Friday 19th October, tickets will also be available to the general public from: Tywardreath Village Shop Val s Place Tania s Courage Trust Donation Hub (opposite Wyevale on Par Moor Road) This is a very popular event. To avoid disappointment, please secure your tickets BEFORE the event. Tickets will be available on the gate but as we have a limited number of tickets, once sold, the gates will close. Gates will open at 5pm and close at 6.30pm. If you arrive after this time, even with a ticket, you may not be able to gain entry. We hope to see you there!

2 PARENT PAY We are entering a crisis point with the way in which you are using Parent Pay. School meals and Sunbeams MUST be paid for in advance. Currently, over 190 parents are in arrears. The school cannot sustain this level of borrowing. It is preventing us from spending money on your children s education. Please remember Parent Pay is not a form of credit. I urge you all to settle your accounts and going forwards, pay in advance for your children s meals / Sunbeams. 3 After a brilliant Stay Safe workshop last week, Menabilly have made some fantastic posters to inform parents and the rest of the school how to stay safe online. The children learnt about why they need to be safe online, the good and bad of technology, their digital footprint, how to prevent cyber bullying and the importance of playing age appropriate games.

4 This week Polkerris, Silvermines and Carnjewey went to Par Beach to do a beach clean. It was a wonderful sunny morning and we are pleased to say that the beach was really clean. We did find lots of rubbish walking to and from the beach though. The children have started to write persuasive letters to look at what we can do to reduce our use of plastic. It's destroying the environment and killing animals at an alarming rate. Please have a think about what you could do at home to reduce your use of plastic. Could you send your child in with a reusable drinks bottle with their lunch instead of a fruit shoot? Could you remember to take a reusable cup next time you get a take away coffee? Next week we will share some extracts from our letters. A gentle reminder please to read with your child at least 3 times a week. We are getting close to half term when those children with 3 reads will be attending the pyjama party.

5 In Booley this week, we have been learning about adjectives and have been describing the different characters from our papaya story. In Maths we have been ordering and comparing 2 and 3 digit numbers. In Art, we have continued experimenting with colours in the colour wheel and making different shades of the same colour. In Polmear Class this week we have begun writing our own stories based on The Papaya that Spoke. In Maths we have been adding and taking away 10s. We have also been learning the story of The Good Samaritan and talked about how it links with our school value of Respect. This week in Crinnis we ve been using adjectives to make our writing more exciting and so far we have written our fabulous openings for our own version of The Papaya that Spoke. We ve used drama to help act out our stories and have even taught each other!

6 FOOTBALL Y3/4 FOOTBALL Y5/6 On Tuesday, Tywardreath football team played Pondhu School. It was our first game of the season and the result was 7-0! We won! The team played really well and it was a great result for our first match. By Finn and David On 9th October, Tywardreath year 3 and 4 football team played their first game! We are amazed with our performance and pleased to tell everyone that we won 5 nil! The team was Levi, Sam, Josh, Matthew, Joey, Rhys, Riley and Theo. The goals were scored by Riley (x3), Matthew (x1) and an own goal. Written by Sam and Matthew NETBALL On Tuesday, Tywardreath netball team had our first match against Pondhu School. Everyone played really well but we lost the match. It was a tough game and we have learnt that next time we need to mark the other team better.
