1 Issue: 30 9th May 2014 Christian Value for the term: Humility Dear Parents, Jordan Perks Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jordan s family this weekend on the anniversary of Jordan s death. SATS week Next week is SATS week. The Year 6 children will be sitting their tests in the hall in the mornings. We will be reminding children about walking quietly around school and being considerate. Year 5 children will be working with Mr Welch, Mrs Lee and Mrs Rudge. Year 2 children will be taking their tests during the next two weeks in their classrooms. Forest green Rovers Ambassador Scheme We have been asked by FGR if we would like to take part in their Ambassador scheme. This scheme has been running since 2012 when 13 ambassadors were chosen from 11 local schools to be ambassadors for FGR. The Ambassador would need to be committed to raising the profile of FGR in our school. This may be by having a dedicated noticeboard, mentioning results in assemblies or by putting something in the school newsletter. In return the ambassadors get to parade out with the players before kick off on two matches each season, they get a complimentary team shirt, a free season ticket and other bits and pieces throughout the season. The ambassador gets leadership experience and we enhance our links between the school and FGR. It is hoped every school will receive a visit from a player and have a school trip to the Stadium. If you think your child might be interested in applying for this role, please let me know (admin@st-marys-tetbury.gloucs.sch.uk) and we will run a selection process before appointing our Ambassador. It is anticipated the Ambassador for FGR would have a keen interest in football and may even be an ardent FGR fan. Good luck and congratulations to Ajay Weston and Daniel Wright and the Forest Green Rovers Under 9 s football team who have made it to the final of the North Wiltshire League Cup playing Swindon Robins on Sunday. Good luck! Reception Production Tuesday 20 th May 2.00pm All reception parents are welcome to join us for the reception production on Tuesday 20 th May at 2pm. Each family will have two tickets and extra tickets can be requested from the school office on a first come first served basis. Thank you. Netball Cake Sale The girls in Mrs Harper s very successful netball team are going on a netball tournament weekend in November and are holding a cake sale on Monday 19 th May after school to raise funds. Please go along and treat yourself to a cake and support the team! Save the date! the PTFA will be holding a Family Bingo Evening on Friday 16 th May tickets will be on sale at the door on the night. Year 2 Under Canvas Parents Meeting There will be a Parents Meeting on Tuesday 20 th May at 6.00pm for all Year 2 children regarding sleeping under canvas for one night at the end of Term 6 on the school field. We are also looking into arranging a two night residential for Year 4 children sometime during the Summer term 2015.

2 Woolsack Race 26 th May KS2 children There is still time to take part in the Woolsack Race this year, please complete the slip at the bottom on this newsletter and return to the School Office. Thank you Netball Update On Friday 2nd May, the Lions played their last league match of the season at Tyndale School in Yate. A team of only six: Stella Harper, Theo Harper, Klara Fletcher, Ellie Jones, Maddie Farthing and Daisy Farthing gave a very convincing performance to win 18-0, securing their place at the top of their group with an unbeaten run. They will now progress to the finals tournament in July, where they will face the winners and runners up from all the groups. The Tyndale team named Theo as the player of the match. On Wednesday 7th May, we were delighted to welcome Sherston Primary to St. Mary's for two friendly matches. With home matches being few and far between, it was great to have an opportunity for more parents to see their children in action. The Y6 team had to work hard for their win with a number of missed goal scoring opportunities, but Klara Fletcher, Ellie Jones, Maddie Farthing, Daisy Farthing, Stella Harper, Hermione Kent, Lucy French and Lucy Berrington pulled together to finish with a 7-2 scoreline. The Y5 match ended with a similar 7-1 score after four great goals from Lily Stevens and a further three from Oscar Purnell. The rest of the team: Izzy French, Rebecca Thomas, Pippa Wison-Autzen, Amy Baker, Rose Pollok-Morris, Dominic McMahon and Georgia Smith worked hard throughout the match and really showed signs that our training is paying off. A particular well done goes to Georgia who was player of the match for lovely passing and movement around the court, and also to Rose and Amy who put in great performances in their first ever matches. Tetbury Young Art Competition Several children who took part in this competition were successful and their entries are being shown in an Exhibition to be held on 20 th May from 4.00pm to 7.30pm and 21 st May from 2.00pm to 7.30pm. Presentation of prizes will take place at 5.30pm on 20 th May. Pupils and parents are invited to attend the Exhibition there will be a small entrance fee for adults; children are free. Light refreshments and drinks available. The People s Pod Fundraising Bid The People s Pod (plus a small local team) provide a youth club for 11-18's, children's work and a job club for anyone over 16 here in Tetbury and are raising money for another year s funding and need VOTES to help with the bid. We explored the museum s galleries and handled Roman artefacts during a workshop when we discovered how Romans lived in Gloucester. The Romans ate lots of fish and vegetables, but only the rich could afford meat Half-Term French Club All St Marys Primary children are invited to come along to our half term French club on Thursday 29 th May near Sherston or Wednesday 28 th May in Cirencester. The club will be from 10am 3pm and costs 35 for the day. The day will be action packed with cooking, craft, gardening, songs, games and drama with the focus on building the children s confidence in the spoken language. Our topic will be responding to tu es comment? and learning how to describe ourselves using je suis... and j ai... in addition to revising greetings, colours and numbers.

Adopt a Coin Campaign The Friends of Corinium Museum have invited St Mary s to get involved in promoting the Adopt a Coin campaign to help raise 15,000 to conserve and display the Tetbury Coin Hoard which was discovered and excavated in The 1500 coins, and the vessel they were found in, dating from AD260s-280s were declared Treasure and have been donated to the Corininum Museum to be conserved and put on permanent display. The coins cost 10 to adopt and in return you will receive a certificate, a photograph pre-conservation and your name will be added to the list of donors. Coins can be adopted online at or by post to the Museum (a few leaflets are available from the School Office).
