By giving a 1 to wear your pyjamas and then collecting your sponsorship money for the 10 minutes sponsored skip you have raised an amazing Congratulations Well done to Tyler of Aquamarine 6 for attaining second place at the Kent J u n i o r C h e s s Association Under 11 s Gr and Pr ix in November. Well done, Tyler!! The School Council met last week to organise a book sale to buy extra playground equipment for both KS1 and KS2. From class meetings, the Council members had found that new equipment was something that many of the children were asking for. Kindly, Deniz offered to run the sale, and we invited her to the next meeting to discuss the jobs that needed to be completed for the event to be successful. Many of the children offered to make posters to publicise the event around the school; the posters were very eye-catching with all of the important information clearly displayed. The Year 5 and 6 Council members were invited to run the stalls and they did so, very well. The grand total was A big thank you to Cathy and Deniz for running the stalls and to the School Council members for helping to organise the event. Also, I would like the thank the parents and carers for donating a fabulous selection of books. Miss Long

2Year 6 Monarchy Quiz On Tuesday, 13th December, Eliot Bank and Gordonbrock went head-to-head in a quiz about Monarchs. First, we were put into groups of about 6 or 7 children.

After we had learnt about what each other liked, we got on with the quiz. During this time, there were five rounds; the first was questions all about Henry VIII and his six wives.

Furthermore, I really enjoyed the round on Queen Elizabeth II because it is our main focus at the moment. I really enjoyed the quiz and learnt lots more about historic monarchs.

As soon as we got into the hall we got into our groups with the other school there were 19 groups altogether. Shortly after getting to know each other we started our quiz.

2 2Year 6 Monarchy Quiz On Tuesday, 13th December, Eliot Bank and Gordonbrock went head-to-head in a quiz about Monarchs. First, we were put into groups of about 6 or 7 children. We were mixed up with Eliot Bank, so that we could have the opportunity to build new friendships and use each other s knowledge about different things. After we had learnt about what each other liked, we got on with the quiz. During this time, there were five rounds; the first was questions all about Henry VIII and his six wives. I really liked this round because we have learnt a lot about him so I knew lots of the answers! Furthermore, I really enjoyed the round on Queen Elizabeth II because it is our main focus at the moment. I really enjoyed the quiz and learnt lots more about historic monarchs. - Ella, Aquamarine 4 Yesterday morning, we had a quiz with another school named Eliot bank. The quiz was held at our school in our small hall because our big hall was being used. As soon as we got into the hall we got into our groups with the other school there were 19 groups altogether. Shortly after getting to know each other we started our quiz. There was 8 or 9 questions and each group gained points for getting the questions right. Our team was called the reigning champions we had a good start at the beginning but did not win but I think we did a really good job. The questions that were asked was about Tudor times, when queen Elizabeth got crowned and naming famous kings. I had a great time. Yesterday morning, we had some visitors come to our school which was Eliot Bank. Gordonbrock and Eliot Bank were united in our small hall. We all got split up into 19 different/ mixed groups. (in each group were 7 people ). After we settled down, we started to introduce ourselves. When we were happy and we got to know them we started to do the quiz.(the picture quiz was the best). I know we didn t win but A for effort.!!!! - Teanna, Aquamarine 6 - Chenai, Aquamarine 6 On Tuesday, Elliot bank came to our school for a Tudor quiz. When I went in, I got a bit nervous because there were a lot of people there. We were split into nineteen groups of five people. When we were done, I had made a friend called Daniel. During the quiz we talked about many things. When we were doing our quiz, there was a question called Where was henry the eighth born? it was Wales but we said England. While we were doing our work, there was a picture matching for kings and queens but Shakespeare was in there and he was not a king. MY favourite question was Where was Henry VIII born? - Jack, Aquamarine 6 On Tuesday, 13th December, Gordonbrock and Eliot Bank had an AWESOME quiz about monarchs. My team was amazing; however, I don t think we could have won such a big competition (there were 120 people!) Some of the Eliot Bank children were really friendly so it was nice to meet them. It was a wonderful experience to meet new people and learn more about Kings and Queens, so I hope we do it again. - Noah, Aquamarine 4

3 Year 5 invited their parents and carers to come to a Viking feast! We ate a delicious, traditional breakfast of porridge with honey and blueberries in front of a crackling fire. Then we presented our Viking poems, sagas and presentations to our adults. We even had a boasting contest! I loved learning about the Vikings it was fascinating. It was really fun performing our presentation about Viking sports at the feast. Rex, Aquamarine 2 The feast felt really atmospheric because of the sloppy porridge and the amazing sagas and boasts. 4 This week s problem.. MATHS PROBLEM 11hrs 49mins Learning time lost due to lateness last week. We are monitoring lateness into school and will be inviting parents/carers of persistently late children in to school to discuss concerns around punctuality. Last week s solution... However, as you can see by this shot, I have once again failed miserably to get them all to look at me. This was the most successful shot of the three I took. I think I will get Graham to do it next time. We are rapidly becoming aware that this is going to be a tough season. The boys are playing against bigger and stronger teams made up of mainly year six boys. However, there is no lack of determination and courage in our team. 10am Gordonbrock v Baring 0-0 Man of the Match: Henry for listening to advice and acting on it. This match heated up in the second half, the boys were playing a defensive game with some good blocking by Heath and a magnificent save by Stan. A long kick to Joshua almost resulted in a goal. Henry was determinedly chasing every ball throughout. 11am Holbeach v Gordonbrock 0-0 Man of the match: Jerrell for his coverage of the pitch. This was a very exciting match. The boys really played as a team. Isaac showed good control and managed to get the ball to Joshua even though he was laying on the floor at the time. Joshua almost scored from a long kick from Stan, but, unfortunately the ball hit the cross bar. At half time we had a change of goalie. Isaac took over and Stan came out to play on the field. Although there were other tries at goal the match ended in a draw. The boys were a little downhearted that they had not managed to secure a win, but, they couldn t have tried harder. January will bring more challenges and I am sure that this team are ready to face them. Well done to: Henry, Jerrell, Heath, Joshua, Kyson, Isaac and Stanley.
