Decisions have had to be made around snow for the first time in five years! It is always difficult to know what to when it comes to school closure. We are very aware if we close the school we can cause a lot of disruption for people who have to get to work but at the same time we don t want to put our children, families or staff in danger by encouraging them to make unnecessary journeys. We decided to stay open and on Tuesday the school field looked just too tempting to ignore so we took the children out to make snowmen and throw a few snowballs. It was fantastic to see the children (and staff) enjoying this very special weather. For some of our younger children it was the first time that they had seen snow. We did cancel several after school clubs and would really like to thank the way our families supported us by collecting their children, sometimes at quite short notice. On Wednesday 4FM delivered a fantastic assembly to their families all about India and the importance of friendship. Next week it will be the turn of 4CP. We have had two sports teams representing us recently. Our Quicksticks hockey team won their group and are through to the finals. Our Cheerleading team put on a fantastic display and, although it was not a competition, several individuals were awarded medals. Yesterday our children looked amazing in their World Book Day costumes, please check some of the photographs later in the newsletter. Julia Sherlock (Headteacher) Parents/Carers Evenings The Spring Reports will be sent out on Friday 9th March. Consultation evenings will be held the following week to give parents the opportunity to discuss their child s progress. A letter, with all the details, will be sent out separately.

2 Class Attendance School attendance is incredibly important as it can have an impact on your child with both their learning and their friendship groups. Our school target is to be in line with national figures: 96% Each week classes have the opportunity to win attendance prizes for the best attendance and least number of recorded lates. 3 British Weather! What a difference a year makes! This was World Book Day in and this was what the school looked like in 2018!

4 World Book Day Thank you for helping your children come up with such fantastic costumes. Everyone had a great day: reading books, completing different activities and listening to stories. The children also had an opportunity to enter a competition to try and identify staff reading some of their favourite books. We have included three below for you to have a go at! Guess who? Great Costumes! Second Hand Book Sale This was postponed due to poor weather on World Book Day and will now take place after school on Thursday 8th March. Please can children bring in some money to buy books? Mrs Julia Sherlock, Headteacher Eastbrook Primary Academy Manor Hall Road, Southwick Tel : office@eastbrook.w-sussex.sch.uk Website:
