1 The Newsletter of Spring Term Working together for the good of the whole school community I firstly want to thank you for your support this week in what had the potential to be an unsettling few days. The Chair of Governors and I greatly valued the opportunity to sit down with the class reps on Monday and ensure there was real clarity in communication between us as staff, governors and the parent body. We will meet again next week to continue this dialogue and consider the roles we have to play in delivering the best education and opportunities for your children. I know the class reps did an excellent job of capturing our conversation and sharing it with you, but I would like to draw your attention to one key aspect of it which underpins all we are doing, and will continue to do, in the weeks ahead. Our mission at this time is to ensure: All children and adults feel safe and happy in school, and that we work together for the good of all members of our school community. We all have a part to play in this and I have been really encouraged by the response to this challenge so far. Over the coming days, I encourage you to consider the role you and your children can play in achieving this. As a staff, we are ensuring we are out on the playground earlier in the morning to be able to chat with you and your children, and we are reviewing our behaviour procedures. We want to work with you to meaningfully ensure all our children are always safe and happy in school. We want the children at to have every opportunity to flourish both now and in the future and we look forward to continuing to develop our partnership with you so that we can make this happen together. In the meantime, take a moment to enjoy our sporting achievements this week (Page 3). Well done to all those involved what wonderful children we have! Juniper Aspen Year Marie Curie - Cancer Care We are collecting for Marie Curie Cancer Care next week at school. If you would like your child to have a daffodil then please give them a 1 donation to bring to school. Our Year 6 children will go round to classrooms during the week and we also have a collection tin in the school office. Any donations will be gratefully received. 3 HWPS Girl s Netball Team On Monday, 2 teams from Year 6 girls played against Cranmere one team were playing as part of the Netball league and then our second team, featuring our newer players, took part in a friendly game. The league team made a fantastic start and played some great attacking netball leading 3 0 after the first quarter. Momentum was maintained and our lead was extended to 5-0 by half time. Great passing and interceptions meant that in quarter 3 we also extended our lead to 8-0. Our defence were amazing and made sure that Cranmere had little chance to shoot. The final result was 10-0 which is an amazing result well done girls! They have really made progress this year and it was great to see such good skills and teamwork. (players: Neve, Matilda, Catherine, Layla, Evie, Charlotte and Ania) The second team also had a great start and two early goals meant that we were leading 2-1 at the end of the second quarter. However, Cranmere fought back well and despite some great defending they managed to draw level by the end of quarter 3. A tight and tense final quarter saw action at both ends of the court but Cranmere scored in the final minutes to take the game 3-2. This was our first competitive game from several of the girls in this team and they showed real determination and spirit in keeping the score so close. We are very proud of them all! (Players: Maddie G, Amy D, Luna, Hannah A, Emilia and Freya) HWPS Girl s Football Team Our girls football team beat Cranmere Primary School last Friday night by an astonishing 10-0! 6 of them were scored by super striker Evie R after yet another woman of the match performance by Captain Francesca Z. Early on Thursday morning, the girls had their last league game against Esher Church School and won 10-1 this time. The result means that girls top their group and go through to the district semi-finals which will be played next week. The date and venue of the game will be sent in due course so please come along and support our school! HWPS Boy s Football Team Our boys team had an incredible 19-0 result against Cranmere Primary School on Tuesday but unfortunately couldn t get the additional win they needed against St Mary s Long Ditton to go through to their semi-finals. The boys played fantastically and were winning for most of the game, thanks to a hat-trick from Captain Olly S, but were on the wrong end of a 4-3 score line. They can be proud of their efforts, however, and with a bit more luck they would ve joined the girls in the district semi-finals. HWPS Cross-Country Team Last Saturday, Y6/Y5 Boys: Charlie B, Lukka B, Edward G, Harry E, Ashley W, Dylan J, Caleb P, Tobi B, Alfred S participated in the Surrey School Athletics Association Cross Country in Reigate. Over 50 schools from across Surrey participated and reunited 455 children in total. All the boys did amazingly well; with 3 boys finishing in the top 20 and being asked to join an Endurance Training Day in October. We were very impressed by their determination and how each of them pushed themselves to the limit. A great celebration of sport. Now we are looking forward to Saturday Esher Cross Country for Y4, Y5 and Y6. Go Hinchley Wood Primary!
