It is hard to believe how fast the time is going by. Before we know it the birds will be singing and spring will be here. The month of January did bring the first cancellation of school. School was not in session on Thursday, January 8th. The district will need to make this day up. This day will be made up on May 29th. This will still leave Monday, February 16th and Monday, April 6th as storm make-up days. Hopefully, the weather will be kind the rest of the year and school will not have to be cancelled. On January 8th, the district did have problems with our notification system. The problems are on their end and they are working to fix them. On days of inclement weather, I also contact KBTO radio, KXMC, and KMOT with any late starts, early outs, or school cancellations. These are also posted on our school website and the school Facebook page. The district will have an early out on Friday, February 13th. This will be used as a professional development activity for our staff. Buses will leave Central School at 12:30 pm and 12:45 pm from the Middle School. There will be no school on Monday, February 16th (Presidents Day). This is a storm make-up day and could be used if there is a school cancellation the end of January or early February.

Some studies have indicated that excessive absenteeism in Kindergarten and/or first grade can substantially impact a child s reading ability as well as other academic and social areas. With this being said, the school board will be setting the school year calendars within the next month or two. I ask parents to please obtain a copy of the calendar so that doctor s appointments, family trips, etc. can be scheduled on days that school is not in session. I understand that this is not always possible, but every day we have your student in school is another day of knowledge that they will gain for the rest of their life.

6 BAND CONDUCTING MAGAZINE RENEWAL DRIVE The Bottineau Bands are again conducting their annual magazine renewal drive. If you have magazines that you can renew with us, please contact any band student or call Nancy Olson at the high school at by February 13. We also have catalogs if you would like to purchase a new subscription or if you are interested in purchasing some wonderful gift items.
