The existing Down Local, Down Through, Up Through, Up Local and Up Loop lines will be renamed and will in future be known as Down Platform Loop, Down Main, Up Main, Up Platform Loop No. 2 and Up Platform Loop No. lines, respectively (see diagram). The existing Up Branch iding situated adjacent to the Up Branch line will in future be known as the Up Branch Loop line (see diagram). The existing Tonbridge "A" and "B" signal boxes will be replaced by a new signal box known as TONBDGE, situated 87 yards the evenoaks side of the existing Tonbridge "A" signal box. White lights will be mounted on top of certain apparatus cases in this area. These lights when illuminated will flash and are provided only to call the attention of the Technician. Full details of the altered permanent way and new signalling are shown on the diagram enclosed with this nstruction. A plate bearing the prefix letters and the number of the signal will be fixed beneath each colour light signal. The prefix letters will denote the signal box which operates the signal as follows: Prefix letters "PE" ignal box Tonbridge Automatic signals will be prefixed by the letter "A".. The new colour light running signals will consist of four, three or two aspects and they will be known as automatic or controlled signals as explained below: Automatic signals are those which are not worked from the signal box and are controlled by track circuits only. Controlled signals are those which are always controlled from a signal box and are also controlled by track circuits. The lights of the new running signals will be arranged as shown on the enclosed diagram. The new colour light running signals will be fitted with small side lights repeating the aspects exhibited by the signals to assist Drivers of trains drawn up close to such signals. Back lights will not be provided in any of these new colour light running signals. The height of the centre of the lowest aspect (red or yellow) of these new colour light runnln& signals will vary between 10 feet and 16t feet above rail level. The new colour light running signals will be replaced to Danger after the front of a train has passed a distance varying between yards and 440 yards beyond the signal.
JUNCTON NDCATO Junction ndicators will be provided to work in conjunction with certain signals as shown on the enclosed diagram and will apply as indicated in ule 35, clause (e). OUTE NDCATO oute ndicators will be provided to work in conjunction with certain signals and they will exhibit a letter as indicated on the enclosed diagram according to the route the train is intended to run. TELEPHONE Telephones will be provided at or adjacent to certain signals as indicated on the enclosed diagram. Attention is drawn to the i'1structions headed "Passing ignals at Danger" and "Use of telephones at automatic, intermediate block or other stop signals" on pages 97, 98 and 99 of the outh Eastern Division ectional Appendix, also to clauses to 3 of the instructions headed "Telephones at top ignals" on page 63 of the General Appendix to the Working Time Tables and books of ules and egulations and to the instructions headed "Lineside Telephones" appearing as an addition to the outh Eastern Division ectional Appendix (page 95) in pecial Notice PjEW No. 4~, ED, CD or W, 1961, and subsequent issues. HUNTNG GNAL hunting signal PE.05 will be worked for some running movements controlled by PE.148 signal and shunting signal PE.87 will be worked for some running movements controlled by PE.18 and PE.19 signals in addition to shunting movements. Drivers of trains whose movements have been authorised by these signals are not required to observe the position of these shunting signals. t may however happen in an emergency, that these shunting signals have been placed at danger by the ignalman and in such circumstances, if these signals are noticed by a Driver he should bring his train to a stand. During shunting operations the position of these shunting signals must be strictly observed. With the exception of shunting signals of the position light type and those controlling movements from the Penshurst end of the Down Branch idings and Marshalling idings all shunting signals will be floodlit. The floodlit signals will not show a red, yellow or green light during darkness. DETONATO PLACNG MACHNE Detonator placing machines will be provided as shown on the enclosed diagram each worked by a separate switch in the signal- box. Attention is drawn to the instructions applicable to detonator placing machines appearing on page 67 of the General Appendix to the Working Time Table and books of ules and egulations. TONBDGE "A" Tonbridge "A" ground frame will, in future, be electrically released by Tonbridge new signal box and will be known as ground frame "E". The existing trap points in the Up Branch idings 123 yards the station side of the signal box will be abolished. The existing facing points in the Up Branch idings leading to the Up Branch line and trap connection 72 yards Penshurst side of the signal box will be abolished and replaced by plain line (see diagram). The existing hand points in the Up Branch idings 68 )'ards Penshurst side of the signal box will, in future, be connected to and operated from Tonbridge new signal box. New trap points will be provided in the Up Branch iding 22 yards Penshurst side of Tonbridge new signal box. The existing facing crossover between Down and Up Branch lines 75 yards Penshurst side of the signal box which is at present clipped and padlocked will be connected to and operated from Tonbridge new signal box. TONBDGE "B" Ground frames "A" and "B" will, in future, be electrically released from Tonbridge new signal box and will be known as "0" and "C" ground frames respectively (see diagram). The trailing crossover between Down and Up Branch lines 131 yards Tunbridge Wells Central Goods side of the signal box which is at present clipped and padlocked will be connected to and operated from Tonbridge new signal box. The existing catch points in the Down Branch line 524 yards Tunbridge Wells Central Goods side of signal box will be abolished. The catch points in the Down Branch line 574 yards the approach side of automatic colour light signal A.306 which are at present clipped and padlocked out of use will be brought into use (see diagram). The existing Up Branch Distant two-aspect colour light signal will be removed. 2
HGH BOOM Brick idi ng ground frame will cease to be worked in accordance with the electrical release lever control arrangements and will in future be worked in accordance with track circuit release arrangements. The two lever Goods Yard ground frame situated on the left-hand side of the Up line 1.354 yards Tonbridge side of the signal box will be removed. The trailing points in the Up line opposite to and operated from the above-mentioned ground frame together with the Goods Yard siding and trap points therein will be put out of use. The points being clipped and padlocked in the normal position. TUNBDGE WELL CENTAL GOOD The High Brooms ntermediate Up Distant signal situated beneath the Up Home signal will be removed and replaced by a two-aspect approach light signal. The existing Down Distant two-aspect colour light signal will be removed. BETWEEN TO BDGE AND PADDOC WOOD A.320 automatic four-aspect colour light running signal will work as a three-aspect colour light signal. the top (yellow aspect) being obliterated until further notice (see diagram).
