CELEBRATING 23 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Kansas City Chapter - American Singles Golf Association - October 2014 President s Report Dear Fellow Single Golfers, The golf season is winding down now, the leaves are starting to turn, and insidethe-house projects are on top of the to-do list. But we will not stop having fun just because the weather is not conducive for golf. As you will read in the following articles, there will be a lot of fun events to stimulate our cabin fever. What a great time we had in Branson this year! We had almost half our chapter down there. In my 5 ½ years as a member, I do not remember as great a participation and as much just plain fun. If you were unable to attend this year, you may want to consider Branson in 2015. This Thursday s meeting is very important. If all goes right, we will be electing our next VP who will be our 2016 President. I will also be explaining the memo I sent about voting for this year s Man of the Year, Woman of the Year, and the Sportsmanship award. Your participation at the meeting will be greatly appreciated. See you there. ~Dohn Kennyhertz, President 2015 Board and Fundraising The General Business meeting in October will include the election of your Vice President for 2015. I encourage all that can to be in attendance so that we can have a good representation of the membership for the vote. In addition, we still have a need for someone to step forward and serve as our Secretary for 2015. The Secretary attends the monthly Board meetings and records the discussions and items of interest for the support of the Board and chapter. It is a good opportunity for a new member (or prior Board member) to help us out for a year and get easy exposure to our chapter s operations. Please email me directly if you think you can help the chapter out. We have a great chapter that is growing in numbers so give some of your time to help that continue. Fund raising has been exceptional this year and the last 50/50 raffle with a chance to win half of the money raised will be this Thursday at the General Meeting. I look forward to seeing you for the vote on your Vice President for 2015 and participation in our last 50/50 raffle. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us for our last golf event this weekend and the Royals will keep winning and be in the World Series!! ~Randy Gerard Golf Chair Report Our fall trip to Branson was maybe the best one to date! We all enjoyed great weather, great courses, great food and fellowship at the Lodge of the Four Ladies. Kudos to Dave for his hard work in coordinating 30 40 golfers each day of this three-day event. It was wonderful to have so many new members in attendance. Kay and Amy hosted 40 players on a cool, but gorgeous October day at the Shoal Creek Golf Club in Kansas City. Contest winners included Mingo (most lost balls); Curtis (most greens in regulation); Gary (most sand shots); and Sue (most putts). Golfers met up after the round at Granite City and enjoyed food, drink and tales of the day. Our last golf event of the season will be Saturday, October 18 th at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club. Bob F will host his event. Watch for emails and the sign up sheet at the October meeting. ~Bob Fischer Upcoming Events Include (see SinglesGolf.com/events) ASGA's Battle at the Beach - Charleston, SC, October 30-November 2 Play Coosaw Creek, Dunes West and optional rounds at Kiawah Island's Oak Point and The Links at Stono Ferry. We will play Sycamore Ridge and The Posse at Paradise Point in April and Tiffany Greens in May. Other events in the works include a long weekend trip to the Columbia MO area in early June and a twoday event in Manhattan KS in August. The goal is to try and play a few courses we haven t played at all or at least in the last several years, and to keep some of the all time favorites of the group on the list. A full schedule of events should be available after the first of the year. ~Dave Bowen, 2015 Golf Chair Social Chair Report The weather may have turned cold, but a warm and fuzzy time was had by all at October s First Friday, held at the Blue Moose on 135th St. in Overland Park. We had 35 golfers on hand for cocktails and dinner. Folks had fun with happy hour drinks and telling stories from our Branson trip the weekend before. There will be no First Friday for November, but instead something even more special - our Annual Awards Banquet with dinner and dancing! The venue is the beautiful Blue Hills Country Club on November 8 starting with the cocktail hour at 6, dinner at 7, and dancing following dinner. It s time to strut your finest finery or Country Club casual, so reserve your spot today and bring a guest if you d like. Member price is $50 and guests are $60. Sign up ends Wednesday, October 29, so don t delay! See the banquet invitation in this newsletter and watch for emails from your social co-chairs for updates.. Additionally, we have added to our funfilled calendar. Barb is hosting a Halloween Game Night Bash at her home on Saturday, October 25. The party is from 7 - till... and promises to be fun for all. Dress in your Halloween best or whatever you like, costumes are not mandatory but fun is. Watch your email for more details, or please contact Barb or Donna. ~Susie Harwood and Donna DeLeon Special Message: A great big THANK YOU to the Kansas City chapter for showing Suzanne and me such a wonderful time in Branson. Every one was so nice, the food was wonderful and the courses were fantastic. We felt very welcome and enjoyed seeing our old friends and making some new ones. We look forward to hosting many of you when you leave the cold and come down to the Sunshine State for some warm weather and good golf. Of course we hope to see a lot of KC members come to the Sunshine Fling March 12th thru 15th at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast Florida. It will be a three night stay at the resort with two rounds of golfing, two dances, and all food, taxes, and gratuities included. You won't want to miss this one. Keep an eye on your newsletter for details. Again thank you for inviting us to come to your event. ~Barney Coombs, Orlando Chapter About Our Members Happy Birthday to these members: David Bowen - 10/22 Darlene Campbell - 10/18 Brad Casey - 10/09 Frank Chop - 10/08 Donna DeLeon - 10/28 Robert Haefele - 10/10 Dan Johnson - 10/25 Sue Kariker - 10/05 Mary Marshall - 11/08 Arthur McDonald - 10/27 Cathy Whayne - 11/15 These members are up for renewal: (date shown is last day of membership) Dohn Kennyhertz - 10/31/2014 Domingo Maturey - 10/31/2014 Cathy Whayne - 10/31/2014 Welcome newest members: Catheryn Brooks - Joined 09/19/2014 Terri Turner - Joined 09/25/2014 These members recently renewed: Cheri Freshwater Mara Kelley Cheryl Settle Sara Swearingen These members did not renew their dues: (date shown is date membership expired) William Goff - 08/31/2014 Maureen McArdle - 09/30/2014 Pat Ryan - 09/30/2014 Our chapter currently has 94 members.
