Two silver medals in football Hanley wins silver in 1A 6-man football The Hanley Sabers football team had an exceptional season this fall, finishing the year with a record of 9 wins and one loss. Unfortunately, that one loss came in the provincial final! Hanley Composite School lost 67-24 to Ituna/Kelliher in the provincial final on Saturday, November 10 in Hanley. The team would like to thank the communities of Hanley, Dundurn and surrounding areas for the incredible support that was demonstrated at each and every game. We hope that our play on the field not only entertained, but was also an example of sportsmanship and hard work. The team would like to congratulate our graduating players on their success this year and thank them for their contributions to the club over their years with the team: Josh Anderson, Matthew Englot, Skylar Fogen, Levi Lenius, Alexander Mann, Erik Olson and Steven Sira. The Hanley Sabers football team in action Warman claims silver in 9-man football The 2012 Warman Wolverine football team had a great season filled many successes. For the first time in the team s five-year history, they advanced out of conference play. The team had a 4 and 2 regular season which was good for second place in Conference 4. The team then defeated Martensville in the second versus third game to advance to the provincial quarterfinals. From there, the team defeated Foam Lake in Foam Lake and Indian Head in Warman to advance to the Provincial final in Melfort. The Wolverines were defeated 53-26 in the final game by a very good Melfort Comet team. The 2012 team was filled with hardworking, dedicated players who committed themselves to being the best they could be. The seven Grade 12 players provided excellent leadership all season long. While the team will miss the graduating players, the returning players gained valuable experience that will help them in the 2013 season. Warman Wolverines football team and coaching staff Page 3

In the bronze medal match, RJC defeated Langenburg in straight sets to claim third place. Congratulations to Coach Adam Ens! Rostern Junior College Senior volleyball team celebrate their bronze medal win Waldheim claims bronze in 3A Girls provincials The Waldheim Raiders Senior Girls Volleyball team had an exceptional season that culminated in winning the bronze medal at the SHSAA 3A Girls Provincial playoffs on November 16 and 17 at LCBI (Outlook). The Raiders then lost to LCBI (who ended up winning gold) in the semi-finals. After the disappointing loss in the semi s, the girls showed great resiliency and won the bronze medal with a convincing win over Southey. Congratulations to the team and Coach Derek Zacharias on a great season! The girls would like to give a sincere thanks to all of their parents and fans who supported them throughout their season as can be seen in the picture below. Senior Golf CVAC Senior Golf - Sand results The district sand golf championship took place in Hanley on September 11. Eight boys from Waldheim and Hanley battled the wind and each other to determine the 2012 winner. After 18 holes in winds over 40 km per hour, Cody Field from Waldheim emerged as the champion. Three golfers from Hanley were in a tie for second place: Taylor Kistner, Nathan Davis and Matthew Englot. After further play, Taylor and Nathan joined Cody at provincials. Provincial playoffs were held in Canwood on the weekend of September 21 and 22. The tournament was a challenge for our CVAC golfers with Cody, Taylor, and Nathan finishing 21st, 26th, and 27th, respectively. Congratulations to Coaches Reg Pauls (Waldheim) and Scott Cory (Hanley). Cody Field with Grant Elke CVAC Senior Golf - Grass results CVAC held its senior golf championship at the Legends in Warman on September 10. Even though students had been back at school for less than a week, about 40 students took part in the tournament. The weather was pleasant, the wind was present, and the greens were fast, very fast according to many of the players. On the girls side, there was a disappointing six entrants, an area CVAC needs to continue to develop. Only three of these entrants showed for the playoff, all from Clavet. Since this meant that they were entitled to advance to provincials as the team champions, they chose to play only nine holes of individual competition. Winning the 2012 girls championship was Kristen Streifel, with Stephanie Pankiw and Leslie Nyholt rounding off the winning team. On the boys side, 45 boys pre-registered for the championship, a drop from last year, possibly due to the earlier playoff date, with 36 individuals taking part in the actual tournament. The eighth hole proved to be the undoing for several of the golfers. In the end, four of the five top golfers were from Clavet with a tie for first between Ryan Ekdahl from Clavet and Cory Gardipy from Stobart. After a playoff hole, Cory emerged as the 2012 boys champion. The team champions from Clavet were Ryan Ekdahl, Wesley Perehudoff, Nigel Lendsey, and Chris Beresh. Congratulations to Coach Cherie Wilke! Cory Gardipy with Grant Elke Boys team champions: Chris Beresh, Nigel Lendsay, Wes Perehudoff, Ryan Ekdahl, Clavet Composite School Girls team champions: Stephanie Pankiw, Kristen Streifel, Tiffany Wharton, Clavet Composite School Page 6

CVAC Junior results Junior Soccer Girls The 2012 playoffs were quite exciting. In the preliminary round, Stobart edged Constable Robin Cameron 5-4. A few days later during the semifinals, Waldheim edged VCA 2-1 while Warman defeated Stobart 6-2. After a break for lunch, the third place game was played with VCA winning a challenging victory 4-3 over Stobart. The gold medal championship game followed, which was a defensive struggle resulting in a 1-0 victory for Waldheim over Warman. Congratulations to Coach Trace Block and his team for capturing Waldheim s first CVAC soccer championship! Waldheim Junior Girls, with Coach Trace Block Boys The 2012 boys playoffs were contested in Warman on the same day. During the semi-finals, Stobart played solid defence to defeat Warman 3-0, while VCA displayed offensive prowess defeating Constable Robin Cameron 8-1. In the third place game, Warman erupted for 9 goals, defeating Constable Robin Cameron 9-2. As expected, the gold medal game was another defensive struggle. After scoreless regulation and overtime, the match moved to a shootout. The result was a hard-fought 1-0 victory for VCA. Congratulations to Coach Murray Neudorf and his team on their victory! Junior Volleyball Boys The CVAC junior boys championship was held November 3 at Constable Robin Cameron Educational Complex. After a competitive round robin, three teams were tied for first place. When the dust had cleared, Langham was in first place, followed by Colonsay, Waldheim, and Dalmeny. The first semifinal was a 90-minute battle, with Colonsay defeating Waldheim (12-25, 25-22, 25-19). This was followed by a 75-minute struggle, with Langham defeating Dalmeny (23-25, 25-21, 25-19). After a break to refocus, the final began. Once again, it was a battle, culminating in a Langham victory over Colonsay (25-19, 20-25, 25-14). Congratulations to Coach Terry Chalifour and his team for their victory in a very competitive field. Girls The CVAC junior girls championship was held November 3 at Osler School. It was a great day for some very competitive and close matches. After the Langham Junior Boys volleyball team with Coach Terry Chalifour round robin, Hanley was in first place, with Waldheim in second. After taking both round robin games against Hanley, Martensville defeated Warman for third place. Waldheim and Martensville went head to head in the first semi-final. Waldheim just couldn t hold back the momentum that Martensville had gained in their win against Hanley. Martensville won the match 25-23 and 25-19, bumping out Waldheim for a place in the final. It seemed in the next semi-final Hanley would take an easy win over Warman, after winning the first set 25-11. Warman fought back, not willing to let it go so easily, but ended up losing a very close set 26-28. Hanley met Martensville in the final for some great volleyball. In the end, Hanley stretched ahead, winning 25-20 and 25-23. Congratulations to the Hanley Sabers for a great day of volleyball as well to all the teams who demonstrated tremendous sportsmanship!
