Maybe it is time to update the shield template, but I don't like the manner and attitude of the mandatory directive has been handed down from BMW. It's reminiscent of the hoops dealers must go through. Clubs have invested many hours in creating their own logos and they are proud of their "Colors". Now the manufacturer of the bikes we enjoy riding is telling us to scrap our artwork and use this business card layout. The new design requirements are not particularly attractive for things like patches, decals or even on shirts and other apparel. The shield design works better there. It just limits the creativity and individuality of clubs. Sure there is a rectangular shape we can be creative with, but it is very restrictive also. Can't use "BMW" in this area so we can't use GCBMWC. Photos are to be "realistic, powerful and lively. Real situations and objects are shown and no negative messages may be conveyed, such as accidents or breakdowns. Neither may visuals with political, racist or sexist content be used. Photographs must always guarantee high quality reproduction." (taken from the PDF document BMW put out). I do have a high resolution picture of Merrill's new bike we could use. I love the creative example they use in their PDF. Three color bars is certainly scalable, but sure isn't very creative. What three colors could we use? Black and blue and red all over. We are an officially licensed BMW club and have been granted rights to use their 3D roundel. Not any of BMW's older logos, but only the latest 3D version. Some of the coolest logos out there are created with the embellished roundels. BMW should take it as a compliment that clubs consider using the roundel in our logos. Hey, we're the customers too remember? We have better things to discuss at our meetings and better things to do than trying to figure out how to fit a round peg into a square hole. Like riding.

Page 5 German superbike - complete with all road gear - trumps AMA spec Suzuki GSX-R1000's time at US track Posted: 1 March 2010 by Visordown News AN AMERICAN racer riding a bog standard BMW S1000RR has trounced the current lap record set at a US racetrack on an AMA specification Suzuki GSX-R1000 superbike. Chris Peris rode the all-new 1000cc BMW at a motorcycle dealer's promotional event, where sportsbike riders who probably wouldn't normally go for a BMW could see the new 193bhp machine in action. "We have this great new product in the BMW S1000RR and we were looking for a way to introduce the bike to the sportsbike crowd who may have never set foot inside a BMW dealer before," said John Cartwright, owner of Iron Horse Motorcycles, an Arizona-based BMW dealer. Peris rode the slick-shod stock BMW, complete with headlights and all street equipment- minus the mirrors and passenger footpegs. On his second session at the brand new Inde Motorsports Park, he beat the standing superbike lap record by over a second, posting a 1:54.07. Peris was familiar with the track, having set the motorcycle lap record, with a time of 1:55.60, on his AMA Superstock specification, VIR podium finishing GSX-R1000 racer. After the test, Peris said: "Wow. I've never ridden one of these new BMWs before, I can't believe I went faster on a stock bike with headlights, then I did on my own personal racebike. I can't wait to ride it after the ESP boys turn it into more of a racebike." It reminds us when the Yamaha R1 turned up in 1998 and obliterated everything in its path. April 11th Breakfast Ride 9:00 am Great Scott Diner in Amelia 106 East Main street, Amelia Ohio. Note the regular 9:00 time. Great turnout at the March Breakfast Ride in Milford.

Any excuse for a long ride! Where do you go when the forecast calls for 60 F and sunny and you have no particular place in mind? How about a Spring Open House at a not-so nearby multi-line dealer! On most recent weekends, I have spent many hours getting a new computer up and running (actually two new computers but that s another story), filing income tax returns, and making progress on a painting project. On Saturday, March 20 th, Cheryl had the day off. So, with the weather forecast looking good, we headed to Columbus, OH to visit Mike & Ann Allen at Motohio at their recent Open House. We got there early and watched the crowd grow consistently until we left around 2:00. That gave us plenty of time to stroll around and check out the merchandise, see the new S1000RR in Acid Green, and see a few other BMWs, as well as Ducatis, and Triumphs.and take a test ride (on a GSA, not the S1000RR)! As you can see from the picture, despite my enthusiasm for the atmosphere, not all attendees were feeling the excitement. Alley, the company dog, seemed to get her work done early and opt for a siesta. Mike and Ann have a nice place. So, now that the weather is breaking, if you need a visit to a dealer to get a dose of spring time riding excitement, consider a ride north and see our friends at Motohio. Tom test riding a new GS Adventure.
