The Master s Academy Middle School & Varsity Cheerleading Tryout Packet 2018-2019
Dear Cheerleading Candidate, Thank you for your interest in becoming a 2017-18 cheerleader at The Master s Academy. The primary purpose of TMA cheerleading is to support athletic programs, lead the crowd before and during games, be ambassadors for The Master s Academy and prepare for competitive cheerleading. Cheerleaders play an instrumental role in raising, leading and maintaining school spirit on campus as well as in and around the community. Since cheerleaders are one of the most visible and recognizable representatives of a school, cheerleaders are in a position of great influence; therefore, high standards of conduct are essential. Positive personal behavior and squad cohesiveness demonstrate these standards. Appropriate behavior will help earn the respect of the student body and is the core of developing effective school spirit and student involvement. Girls will learn the fundamental skills and follow the AACCA safety guidelines that are essential when building a safe and successful cheer team. Strength training and conditioning are required during the cheer season and during the off-season. A team member must be willing to practice on her own time to perfect skills. Additionally, a team member must be able to work well with others; cheerleading is a team sport! Unity and team focus are critical to having another successful year together. Sincerely, Missy Mandato, TMA Head Cheerleading Coach missymandato@mastersacademy.org Jodi Azzara, TMA Varsity Cheerleading Head Sideline Coach jodiazzara@mastersacademy.org Betsy Vallery, TMA Head MS Cheerleading Coach betsyvallery@mastersacademy.org 1.

Cheer team members will be required to follow a summer conditioning program to maintain and increase overall fitness and wellness. Specific physical fitness benchmarks will be measured upon returning from summer break. ATTENDANCE GUIDELINES Each cheerleader has an important role on our team. Cheerleaders depend upon one another, especially in stunt work, practicing of formations, transitions, and choreography. When one cheerleader is missing, the entire squad is adversely affected. Any absence creates havoc with formations and stunts; an absence can literally tear apart the entire team s plan. It also takes away from others when a coach or captain has to step out during practice and teach what was missed. Attendance rules are also in effect for the safety of your daughter. Repetition and implementation of the AACCA endorsed progression chart ensures that proper technique and safety are followed. 5.
