MAY 2016 Volume 8, Issue 5 President s Message By Kathryn Crane-Thielen You will see by the pictures taken at the April meeting that we had a very busy time creating our very own CRDA Railroad table for the Artful Journey theme for the coming June SDP convention. All members jumped in and we all contributed to our fun creation; it was fun to be part of the swirling ideas flowing from members. Thank you, Andie Scott for painting your tiny travel trunks and research brochures to have as embellishments for the table. They will add to the theme to make it more interesting. Bonnie Rand made the travel placemats with clocks and tickets to create our color scheme. You will notice from the pictures that we were in a large, well lit room. We will vote at our next meeting to make the Cypress Gardens RV Park our meeting destination. There will be no veto votes on this one I am sure. We said farewell to our Snowbird members until the fall. We will miss you and look forward to you coming back, enjoy your summer. We painted everything needed for the table that we are hosting. There were lots of great ideas flowing and lots of fun designs put on our little railroad cars. Andrea got to paint the caboose and she did a wonderful job. We also had a trunk sale and I think everyone got a few new old pieces. Our next meeting is with Barb Layton teaching a lace design by Arlene Linton and that is on May 28th. We will be meeting at Cypress Gardens Mobile Home & RV Park. It is located at 1951 Lake Daisy Rd. in Winter Haven. We will NOT be having a meeting in June!! The July project will be taught by Vicki Alley. More info on that is on page 10 of this newsletter. I will be in Maine for June, July and August. I will do my best to keep up with what is going on so please keep me in the loop of things so I can do my job. I HAVE GREAT NEWS!!! I WAS ABLE TO GET IN TOUCH WITH MARK MENENDEZ!!!!!! HE WILL BE COMING TO OUR CHAPTER ON APRIL 25 AND 26 OF 2017!!! I guess that s all I have for now, Stephanie

CRDA Newsletter MAY 2016 Page 3 Ways & Means News By Vicki Alley We made about $50 at the Ways and Means table at the last meeting and the room rental was only $25! Thanks to all members for their support! The quilter and I met the other day and played around with the layout of the quilt. We finally got it where we think it makes the most sense and now she will be sewing it all together! I will bring the finished quilt to the July meeting for all to see! Vicki

We had 15 members present for this project. This coming month we are painting under the directions of our member, Barbara Layton. If you haven t paid your dues to our chapter and to the national SDP, please do so. Reminders again: Be sure to use the CRDA poster in areas that will be noticed as it is a great draw to open conversation about our chapter. If you need one, contact Kathryn. If you need a CRDA badge, let me know. The badges should be worn at our chapter meetings. Be sure to share with your friends who attended the two websites to join: local and national. See the following: SDP website: http://decorativepainters.org CRDA website: http://www.citrusridge.org The membership form for 2016 is at the end of this newsletter. Be sure to put your new SDP membership number on the form and send to me asap. Invite friends to attend our meetings! They can come to two before joining. They would have to sign up and pay for the materials and lessons. The charge for this would be five dollars more than our fee. See you again in May!
