Brian, Rosalie, Brayden and Zac thankyou for your attendance. We wish you well with your purchases and look forward to seeing you again next year. We invite you to join us after the sale for a bite to eat and a drink DISCLAIMER Every care has been taken in compiling this catalogue to ensure accuracy, but no responsibility is accepted for any errors or misdescription which may have occurred. TO DOHNE OR NOT TO DOHNE Do you buy Dohnes or not? is often the question as everyone chases some extra profit. If you put a Dohne ram in your Merinos what have you gained? The answer is fertility, mothering ability, easy care, better growth rates and better feed conversion. The question remains, what have you lost? Nothing, but you also gained better carcass value and more lambs at weaning. If you decide to go back to merinos what have you lost? And again the answer is Nothing. Dohnes are no risk sheep. From the F1 stage the ewes rear more twin lambs to weaning and they have the ability to adjust to all feed conditions. Dohnes have shown they have the ability to thrive in harsh conditions and are suited to all environmental conditions of Australia. The decision is easy! The Dohne Index The Dohne Index summarizes into one number the performance of an animal for all the measured traits, thus simplifying and improving the accuracy of selections. The balance in which traits are combed matches the Dohne Breeding Objective to increase body weight (and carcase trait performance), reduce Fibre Diameter and maintain Fleece Weight and Staple strength. Traits Reported All progeny in a mating group must be recorded for Body Weight, Greasy Fleece Weight, Fibre Diameter, and and Graded for visually assessed traits, other traits are optional. Each trait is reported as a deviation to the average of all Dohne Registered flocks. : Average Fibre Diameter (micron), CV: Coefficient of variation of fibre (percentage) GFW: Greasy Fleece Weight (percentage), BWT: Body Weight (percentage) Fat: Fat Depth (cm), EMD: Eye Muscle Depth (cm) More information: Allan Casey, Manager, Advanced Breeding Services, Forrest Road, Orange 2800, Ph: 6391 3812, Fax:(02) 63913922, Email: abs@agric.nsw.gov.au 1
