Please start arriving at 5.00pm. Cancellations Cancellations of a club night may occur due to inclement weather, or where overly wet fields have caused the grounds to be closed. If a club night is cancelled there will be a recorded message on the club phone number (8338497) after 4:45 pm of that night, advising of the cancellation and Grade Managers will be notified directly. Grade Managers should then advise their grade members of the cancellation. IMPORTANT NOTE: No children are to be left at the club grounds unattended on club nights! Please remember this is a sports club run by volunteers - we are not a baby-sitting service. Behaviour There is an expectation that all children should be on their best behaviour at all times while at the club and points may be deducted from any child not behaving in a satisfactory manner. Registrations Pre-season registrations can only be done online by visiting the Massey Athletics website www.sportsground.co.nz/masseyathletics and following the link for online registrations. Uniform Massey uniforms are available at the clubrooms, prices are listed on our website. Each registered athlete will be given a Colgate Age Patch. This is part of the uniform and must be sewn on the upper, front left hand side of the t-shirt or singlet. An age patch is part of the uniform and MUST be worn. Note: All registered children not wearing the club uniform will NOT be awarded points for attendance or any places in events. Grade Managers Grade Managers are appointed for each age group. This person will be there to oversee the organisation of the grade. Training is provided for any parents interested in doing this for the first time. We also run regular grade manager meetings and feedback sessions. Points Boards The grade manager will require assistance from parents by taking the points board for the grade. This can be rotated each week between parents and is a big help when moving the group from one event to the next. Please mark the board clearly. Points are given to athletes on the Club Nights for the following: Attending on a club night in full uniform (Note: No uniform means NO points including points for placing in an event) Placing 1 st, 2 nd or 3 rd in an event (4 th place is noted on the points board but does not gain any points) When recording places for the sprints on the inside track (30M, 60M, 100M), please ensure that you stand to the side of the track adjacent to the finish line. This provides the best vantage point for awarding places. There are marshals on the end of line duty that award the places, but it is always helpful to have the Grade Manager confirm the end of line decisions. Please note: The chest is the reference point - not the head or foot. Points are calculated as follows: Attendance (must be in full uniform) - 1 point 1 st = 5 points 2 nd = 3 points 3 rd = 1 point For the 4, 5 and 6 year olds: there will be heats and a final in the 30m, 60m, and 100m if there are more than 8 children in the age group. All other running races there will be only heats run as finals, and the board should show two 1 st, two 2 nd and two 3 rd places. For the 7-14 year olds: Where races are timed, each athlete will have their time recorded on the points board alongside their place. It is important to record both! All runners should remain in their lanes upon finishing. This helps with awarding the correct places and times. If you require any help in filling in the board, please ask one of the committee members for assistance. If the boards are not marked clearly a committee member will make a decision. Do s and Don ts Parents/Caregivers MUST NOT stand behind the sprint track finish line, (except for the pre-schooler s races), otherwise, children tend to slow down well before the finish line. Please, no standing on the finish line!
Please look both ways before crossing the outside track, as a race may be in progress. Parents must control pre-schoolers in this situation also. Volunteering We welcome and encourage parent/caregiver assistance on club nights. This may be a simple task of raking the long jump pit, recording places for events or taking a turn on the sausage sizzle. By everybody taking a turn you may only be required once or twice over the season. This also assists in the club nights running smoothly and getting through the events in a timely fashion. Club Championships Club Champs are open to all club members who have attended at least five club nights over the season. This season the Club Champs will be held on Monday 2 nd and Monday 9 th March 2015, commencing at 5:30pm. Children may enter up to 5 events and a program of events is supplied on the day. Certificates are awarded at the end of year prize giving. Full club uniform must be worn on these days no exceptions.
