LPMS Weekly Happenings Week of September 25, 2017 You can see the LPMS weekly announcements on the Announcements page on the LPMS website. You can find the Announcements under the About LPMS tab. You can also view the athletic and school calendar from the LPMS website. It is in the top right corner of the webpage. Please also check your student s team webpage by hovering on the Classrooms tab at the top of the page. Once you hover on the tab, a menu will appear and you can click on your student s team page. Then you can click on Newsletters and find up to date information about the team. Parent Opportunities/Reminders and Misc. There will be a Staff vs Student Kickball game on Thursday October 5th after school, Buy your chances to be on the team at the school store during lunch. 1 chance for $1.00 and 10 chances for $5.00! Come buy your chances to beat the staff! Lewis-Palmer Middle School students will not be allowed to attend high school football games unless they are accompanied by a supervising adult (over 18 and not attending high school).

From the PTO Southwest Airlines Fundraiser! We are excited to announce the PTO has 2 round trip Southwest Airlines tickets to give away. A generous parent has donated the tickets to the PTO and we will be having a drawing at the end of September for a winner. Suggested donation for an entry to win is $20/chance or $50/3 chances. WOWZA! That means each ticket could cost $10 dollars if you bought just 1 chance and won! Please print the attached entry form below and return it to the LPMS office or at the School Store during lunch periods between 10:45am-12:30pm. Plane tickets will be valid for one year from October 1, 2017. PTO will be selling concessions during the home middle school football games. We will have a variety of nutritious and fun snacks and drinks. Most items will sell for between $.50-$1.50. We will begin selling when school ends and continue to sell until halftime is over. Come cheer on the football teams! Back by Popular Demand!! Starting on October 11, our next delayed start day, the PTO will be providing a pancake and sausage/bacon breakfast before school starts. The cost is $4 and the students who want to come must pay ahead and be on the list to be admitted. LPMS Fall Conferences 2017 Parent teacher conferences at Lewis-Palmer Middle School will be held on Wednesday, October 18th and Thursday, October 19th. Open conferences will begin at 3:30 p.m. and last until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18th and again from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 19th. Open conferences are where parents can simply come in at any time and talk to any teacher. Each team of teachers will be in one classroom so parents can quickly and easily see who is available and talk with them about their student s academic progress. If you would like to schedule a specific conference, please contact your student s team. Wednesday, October 18 Open Conferences (last conference at 4:30) 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, October 19 Open Conferences (last conference at 3:30) 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Reminder: There is no school for students on Thursday, October 19 and Friday, October 20.

Other opportunities for students: YMCA Bus Attention 7th graders, the bus for the YMCA is running daily! Students must have a signed permission form turned into the office. Please sign up for the bus in the office no later than 1:00 p.m. on the day you wish to ride. Homework Help It will be held Mondays-Thursdays from 2:45-3:45. Mondays and Wednesdays will be in room 703 with Mr. Johnson. Tuesdays and Thursdays will be in room 605 with Mrs. Schanke. Please make sure to listen to announcements for any changes. Student Council Next meeting will be Thursday, September 28 from 2:40 3:30 p.m. in room 703. Builder s Club Builder s Club will meet the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month at 2:45 p.m. The next meeting is Monday, October 2 in Ms. Marten s room. FCA FCA will be held on Wednesday mornings with Mr. Strycker in room. PEP Volleyball Club and Lego Robotics have started! See the Front Office for more details! Wrestling Camp There will be a 2-day wrestling camp on October 5 & 6 from 3:30-5:30 each day. The camp is open to all ages and all skill levels. There will be specific instruction for those who have never wrestled. This is a great opportunity to try a new sport or tune up before the actual season begins. Cost is $15; location is LP High School in the wrestling loft (near the main gym). Athletes should wear shorts, a t-shirt, and athletic shoes. Sign up sheets are available at the LPMS main office or contact Coach Hannon at shannon@lewispalmer.org.

Need to Take a Trip? A very generous LPMS parent, who flies for Southwest Airlines, has donated a pair of round trip plane tickets to the PTO. We will be selling chances to win the two tickets during the month of September. The tickets will be valid to use for one year beginning on October 1, 2017. Suggested donation for an entry to win is $20/chance or $50/3 chances. Entries may be turned into the front office during any school day or the school store during lunch time. *PTO is hoping to raise enough money to provide funds for a new wall ball project the Gateway to Technology class is designing to enhance the outdoor area for recess, buy the dance classroom a new floor and provide funds for any other requests LPMS teachers make to the PTO. ADOPT D38 Adopt a teacher, grade, or school, please click the Adopt D38 tab on our school website or pick up an adoption form at the office. Thank you to everyone that has made an adoption!! If your student has run out of money or has forgotten lunch, they may go to the office for some crackers or they may borrow money from the emergency lunch account. Please have your student ask Ms. Abeyta when they go through the line for their lunch account balance if they are unsure. BUS PASSES Parents and Students please hold on to your Z passes (bus passes) throughout the year! Replacements start at $5. You can use them from middle school to high school! YEARBOOKS Yearbooks are for sale! Get them now while they are $35! Forms are available in the Main Office! Only 170 left!! TRANSPORTATION Buddy pass are now available. In order for a student to ride another bus, we require a note from each parent confirming the ride. Each student must have a bus pass. Each student may only have 1 other bus rider with them. DISTRICT BOARD MEETING The monthly district board meeting will be held on Thursday, October 12 at 6:00 p.m. at the Learning Center at the District Administration Building, 146 Jefferson Street. PTO PTO meets the 2nd Thursday of every month. This month the meeting will be Thursday October 12 at 9:30 a.m. at LPMS. BAC BAC meets the 2nd Thursday of every month. This month s meeting will be Thursday October 12 at 10:30 a.m. at LPMS. BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION Cut them out! Tear them out! Just DON'T throw them out! There is a Box Tops chest in the office for you to turn them in. Please remember to put your name, grade and team on the baggie. Remember the team that brings in the most box tops will win an ice cream party. Please continue to help us by checking the expiration dates and cutting them out on or near the dotted lines. OUTSTANDING FEES Parents, please be sure to check Parent Portal for any outstanding fees! All fees should be paid by the end of the year. Washington D.C and Pennsylvania! 8 th graders are invited to participate in an end-of-year extended field trip to Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania. The White House, Lincoln Monument, Washington Memorial, WWII Memorial, Smithsonian Museums, The Capital, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, along with many other sites will be visited. We will make our own Hershey Candy bar and go to the Hershey Park in Hershey, Pennsylvania. We will enjoy an authentic Philly Cheese Steak sandwich and even go on a ghost tour of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, after we tour the battlefield. This trip is very applicable to 8th grade learning and kids will be able to see/experience the content. It will be a busy/fun 6 days, 5 nights filled with learning. The trip is around $2400 all-inclusive and we will be going through EF Tours (Education First) which is an approved district tour group. If you are interested there will be a parent meeting on September 7 and 6:00pm. Students have already begun to sign up and I will be capping the number of students at 35.
