West of Ireland Golf Classic in Support of CMRF & Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit @ UCHG The annual West of Ireland Golf Classic in support of Our Lady s Children s Hospital Crumlin and the Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit of UCHG will take place in Galway Golf Club on Friday 4 th May. This event was initiated 32 years ago by the Management and Council of Galway Golf Club with the sole objective of facilitating Members and friends support a worthwhile cause which has widespread relevance within the community. Five years ago the current Organising Committee decided that it was appropriate to channel some of the funds raised to the Patient Comfort Fund of the local Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit of UCHG which has very close ties with Crumlin. These funds enable the Unit to purchase, at their discretion, additional equipment that supports the comfort of parents and children at a very stressful time. In the last five years this event (Golf, Auction, Raffle & Donations) has contributed a total of 67,000 to Crumlin and 23,000 to the Neo Natal ICU of UCHG. Should you wish to contribute, please contact any of the Organising Committee listed hereunder. Raffle envelopes (First Prize 49 LG Full HD Smart Television ) will be available in the Club Bar with a suggested minimum contribution of 20. The Auction which will take place at the Dinner on the night and has numerous valuable items including (a) Two Manchester United Tickets/Flights/Accommodation and Pre Match Hospitality for match in Old Trafford in 2018/2019 Season (b) Connacht Rugby 2018/2019 Family Season Tickets John Mc Ginley 087 2885585 Don Colleran 087 2454665 Aine Binchy 086 8417497 Sandra Rhatigan 087 2536309 9 Hole Championship Men s Qualifier Now re-scheduled for Sunday May 6 th. Pace of Play Sub Committee A pace of play sub-committee has been set up by Club Council. The committee will be chaired by the Men s Vice Captain Kieran Daly and includes members Denis Melia, John

McDonnell & Maureen Egan. The sub-committee are tasked with looking at the results of the recent pace of play members survey and agreeing action points to bring about sustainable improvements in this area. Your attention is drawn in this regard to the pace of play notes at the bottom of this email. Retiring Rita It is with great sadness that I must inform the members that Rita has decided to retire from her role as the matriarch of the bar. Rita has given many years of great service to the club and its members and will be sadly missed by us all. In keeping with her low key and professional approach and in order to avoid, in her words, any fuss Rita requested that she be allowed leave our employ quietly. The Club Council will make a private presentation to Rita in the coming weeks and I will leave a card/cards for signing by the members in the bar in the coming days. Club Lotto The Winning Numbers for the Lotto Draw on Friday April 20th were 12, 23, 28 & 32. There was no winner of the Jackpot of 5,975. There was 1 match 3 winner - Well done to John Costello. The Jackpot this evening will be 6,000. Ladies Inter-club Matches The ladies will play in the first round of the Junior Foursomes in Loughrea against Gort on Saturday at 1pm. On Monday the first round of the Revive will be held, the match will be against Tuam and we will have three matches in Galway and two away. This match will start at 2.15pm. If you are able to come along and support the teams it would be much appreciated. Good luck to both teams and commiserations to the Ladies Intermediate Cup Team who lost out to Oughterard last weekend. Men s Inter-club Matches Galway GC take on Connemara Isles in First Round of Pierce Purcell Galway GC will play the Connemara Isles this Saturday 28 th April in the First Round of the South Section of the Pierce Purcell. The matches Tee Off at 2.30pm and the Team Manager John Lowery and his squad would welcome any support. They have 3 matches at home and 2 away. This is the first outing for a Club Team this year and Lowery is looking forward to a good run this year. The winners of this match will face Galway Bay in the second round and the victors will enjoy home advantage. The team has a good blend of experience & experience and will be looking to secure all three matches at home. Tommie Glynn and Ted Duffy will lead from the front in what is no doubt a very strong pairing with the strength of Duffy and the finesse of Glynn surely an unstoppable pairing.

At number 2 will be possibly Galway s strongest pairing with the reliable Mike Forde and the very talented Andy Gilligan. Forde is hugely experienced at this format having won a National Title with Galway Bay some years ago and Gilligan without a doubt very generously handicapped. Playing at 3 in Galway will be two former Legends of Galway GAA, Liam Sammon & Frank Larkin. Although getting on in years this pairing will take some beating and are sure to put in a good shift!! Playing away in the Isles is never easy and winning a Match there is rare. Top pairing in the Isles will be Dermot Begley and John Ward. Begley knows this course well and is aware of the many pitfalls that await the careless or complacent golfer. His partner Ward is one of the Clubs most consistent performers with notable results in last couple of years and they will no doubt put up a big performance. The final match will feature Mike Quigley and Sean Feeney. Quigley has the unique honour of having previously won a match in the Isles in a not to be forgotten Connacht Shield Match a couple of years back. He won t lack in confidence!! Feeney is new member to the Club and has performed brilliantly in the trials. He will have it all to do, not just in competing with the opposition but keeping his partner under tabs might prove a bridge too far!!! Any Match against the Isles are tough encounters and albeit they are a small Club in numbers they are always very tough competitors. Here s wishing John and the squad the Best of Luck in getting the Club off to a winning start in the Inter Club Season. Next up on May 5 th are the National 4Ball Team. The Caddy New Members Survey A new members online survey will be issued to all recently joined members in the coming week (apologies for the delay). The survey is short (1 page) and seeks to ensure all our new members are settling in well. We would value your feedback.
