ARIZONA is located in the Southwestern region of the U.S.A. and the capital is Phoenix. It was the last of the contiguous States to be admitted to the Union is 1912. Arizona has a population in excess of 16 million people. The Phoenix Downtown Lions Club was the first Club in the State to be admitted into Lionism and that was in 1923. 1966 1967 1967 Bolo 1967 Bolo V 1968 1968 P Bolo 1970 1970 Cuff Links 1971 1971 Cufflinks 1972 1973 1973 V This is probably a cutout of the regular 1973 pin. If so, they did a good job. AZ - 1

In 1975 MD 21 Arizona issued their first Kachina Pin. It was the start of a series of pins that is ongoing today. In the early years these pins were reproduced several times by both the state and a PDG from Arizona who is now deceased. This resulted in numerous variations. The individual responsible for these reproductions was asked to quit reproducing these pins. When he refused to do so he was dropped from the rolls of the LITPC. There are more variations in the Kachina pins than in any other MD pins. 1974 1974 P The pictures to the left represent the first of the Kachina pins. The first set issued individually from 1975 through 1978 was of four different Kachinas each with a white base. There were variations in the colors (note the socks and belts on these shown for 1975) as well as variations in the size of the print. Some have a single post on the back and some have a double post. Some have trademarks, some do not. Some have the number on the back and some do not. There are far too many variations to show them all in this catalog. We will only show a few. 1975 1975 V-1 1975 V-2 The first shows a small emblem and dark colors. Second shows a red lower belt and lighter colors. Third is a large emblem example.. One of these examples has a waffle back one has a plain back and only one has a trademark. There are many other variations of this pin. This issue was initially made in semi cloisonné with both a waffle back and a plain back. It was also made in die strike with a number 2 on the reverse. Like all of the others in this series it was reproduced. 1976 Semi-Cloisonne 1976 V Die Strike AZ - 2

Waffle back with number 3 on reverse. Also a small emblem variety with no number. One of these show number 4 on the back. The other does not. You can see one of the many color variations on pins in this series by noticing the one with the blue socks and one with both a blue and yellow sock. This pin was the last year of the white base. 1977 1978 1978 V 1979 was the first year of the blue base set. Like the previous set these pins have paint variations as well as variations on the reverse of the pin. The pin shown has a number 5 on the back showing that it is the fifth Kachina pin 1978 Lioness 1979 The blue base 80 has varieties as mention previously for other pins in this set. This is number 6, The 80 shown with the white base is a major variety of this pin. It is not known how many are out there but our sources tell us that when a variety of this type is made that there is usually at least one pan 25 50 pins. 1980 1980 V AZ - 3

1981 1981 V This is number 7 in the Kachina series and number 3 in the blue base Kachinas. One of those shown has a number 7 on the reverse. Notice the color at the top of the right leg. One is brown the other white. Normal variations for this series. The 1981 International Convention was held in Phoenix. The large medallion was issued by Arizona to commemorate the occasion. The 82 is the eighth Kachina and the fourth and last in the blue base set. 1982 1983 1983 V-1 1983 V-2 The 83 is number 9 in the Kachina series and the first in the red base set. Shown here are the large and small emblem varieties of the red base. The blue base variety is a major variety as is the white base of 1980 AZ - 4

1984 1984 V Large Emblem 1985 1985 V Number 11 in the Series. The small pin shown is a major variation made by a different manufacturer. Number 12 in the series. Minor Variations exist. This is the last in the red base series. 1986 1987 1988 The yellow base pins were not reproduced as were the previous sets of Kachinas and therefore do not have the number of minor variations as do the previous sets. 13 thru 16 in the Kachina series. The white base 1990 issue shown is a major variation on a par with both the 1980 and 83 base variations. 1989 1990 1990 V AZ - 5

1991 1992 1992 V 1993 There is a definite color difference in the 93 and 93 V but not as much as in the other issues 1994 1994 V 1994 P The yellow base pins are numbered 17 through 20. The Yellow base prestige pin also has the number 20 on the reverse. No other prestige pin is numbered AZ - 6

2001 2001 V-1 2001 V-2 2001 V-3 2001 P 2001 P V From 1977 forward MD 21 put the name of their state, Arizona, on their pins along with the City in which the International Convention was being held for that year. In 2001 the Convention was in Indianapolis, Indiana. They mistakenly put Indiana instead of Arizona on the first issue of the pins. They had to go back and correct it. Thus they had two sets of pins that year.. As they had done in several previous years they issued some pins with different colored bases. AZ - 10

2002 2002 P 2002 V 2002 P V The black base pins beginning in 1999 through 2002 are numbered 25 through 28 2003 2003 P 2003 V 2003 P V AZ - 11

As a result of Hurricane Katrina, it was moved to Boston, MA. Many MD s had already ordered their convention pins with New Orleans on them. Most did as Arizona has done here and had new pins made with Boston on them. 2006 P V AZ - 13
