And now for out little known black history fact presented by Matthew: January 9 th Amiri Baraka Amiri Baraka, was an American poet and playwright who published works that presented the experiences and suppressed anger of black Americans in a white-dominated society. He attended graduate school at Columbia University and in 1958 founded the poetry magazine Yugen, which published the work of Beat writers. His first significant play, Dutchman, which recounted a confrontation on a train between a black intellectual and a white woman who murders him, won the 1964 Obie Award for best Off-Broadway American play. From 1979, at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he was an emeritus professor of Africana studies until his death on this day, January 9 th in 2014. And now for some announcements! The 2019 Miami National College Fair will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Miami Airport & Convention Center, 777 NW 72 Avenue, Miami, FL 33126, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please see your MAST E- mail for more information.
