September 20, 2012 Issue #4 Shamrock Newsletter Important Dates: Thursday 9/20 ITBS Testing starts today (gr. 2-8) Mercy Meeting 7:00 pm Everyone is invited-please join us! Monday 9/24 th -28 th ITBS Testing continues for this week Tuesday 9/25 Minimum Day K-8 dismissal @ 12:40 Eighth grade picture day (info on page 4) Thursday 9/27 First Communion Rite of Enrollment 7:00 p.m. Church Hall FROM THE PRINCIPAL: Dear St. Apollinaris Families, Tonight is the Mercy meeting, 7pm in the hall, childcare provided. We have guest speakers who will offer their insight regarding the health of our students. I hope to see you all tonight! Not only will you receive a B hour, but you will also learn about the goings on of the school. It is your parent participation which makes St. Apollinaris Catholic School such a fabulous community. Hot lunch: I have asked the hot lunch company to substitute fresh fruit for chips. This change took place Monday. I appreciate your feedback. No one could replace Mrs. Chouinard s hot lunch program, but we are trying to provide an option that both students and parents like. I have received a few inquiries regarding how to reach Dr. Leveque. If you would like an appointment with Dr. Leveque, they are scheduled through Mrs. Cardwell. We do have a referral process in place, so if you would like to go through your child s teacher or me, feel free to do that as well. We are so blessed to have so many wonderful resources available to our community. Thanks Dr. Leveque! What I have learned from grades 6, 7 and 8: PDA (public displays of affection) is second only to PDS (public displays of silliness)! 8 th grader feels There is too much yard supervision! Batman vs. Spiderman who is really the better superhero? With those topics being on the junior high mind, I am inclined to think Spring Fever has started a bit early! We have started our Iowa standardized testing for grades 2 8. This is an entirely new, more rigorous test. All the principals have been informed that the test scores will most definitely drop. The results are used to shape our curriculum throughout the school year. Thanks for your wonderful children! Connie Howard
