Except watching them WIN. Issue 15 16th August 2014

President s Page THANK YOU! I d like to kick off this week s report with a massive THANK YOU to all the parents, volunteers and players (Senior and Junior) who assisted in any way, shape or form over the last two Sundays with our hosting of the Junior Finals at Lilydale Reserve. Again great to see the whole club Anthony Simmons working together to raise some much needed funds. Congratulations also On the subject of volunteers, we are only 2 months away from the club s AGM and, as always, we are looking to expand on our group of dedicated committee people. I have plenty of people coming up to me during the season with brilliant ideas on how we can do things better or make more money, which is great, but we also need the extra hands to run these things and help get things off the ground. So I encourage anyone who is passionate about the club and who can put in the time, whether it be a little or a lot, to put your hand up at the next AGM and get involved in the committee. There are plenty of little jobs around the club to be done each week that will make it easier for everyone. So PLEASE, get involved!! Thanks to all the loyal supporters and players who stuck around for the gala auction on Saturday and dug deep in their pockets to support our club. Final figures are not in yet, but considering the smallish crowd in attendance it was a great result! Special thanks also to all the senior players, who donated their match payments for the day in recognition of all the unpaid volunteers around the club and the tireless contribution they make, week in week out. Sponsor of the Week this week goes to TRAFFICCA and UAG SERVICES. It would be remiss of me if I went through the season and did not give a special thank you to mytwo bosses Tony and Matt. They continue to be great supporters of the club not only through their attendance and sponsorship but also in allowing me some flexibility at work to continue to volunteer my time and energy to the club I love so much. Thanks Lads! So if you have any Traffic Management, Warning Lights or Traffic Control Device requirements, give me a call and let us know you re from Lilydale Football Club so I can tell the bosses you re returning their support! REPORT: Much improved effort today boys. So much of this game is mental and I think that the penny may have dropped for a lot of our players today. It is not an individual game and when 22 blokes have a crack it s refreshing to see. We need to use this effort, as proof, of the way we want to play works, if all are pulling in the same direction. Junior President s Report - Week 2 Mixed results! Week two of the finals and we had some mixed results. We had 6 teams competing with 2 wins and 4 losses. Unfortunately the under 12s were defeated by Bayswater and are out of the finals. Peter Koger Anthony and Pio have done a great job with the boys this season and I am sure the boys will be better next season. It would be great to get a second team in the under 13s next year and I encourage all the players and parents to assist us with recruiting boys for the Under 13s next year. These boys will start secondary school and it is a perfect time for recruiting boys. It doesn t matter in any age group if a new player has played footy before we will accommodate them by grading. The Under 13s lost to the top team Heathmont and will use their second chance play Glen Waverley Rovers at Knox Gardens at 12.30 p.m. The Under 14s had a loss against Knox and will now play in the preliminary final this weekend with a second chance. I know John will be very disappointed by the loss and the boys have to respond this week. They will now play St. Simons at Scoresby at 12.30p.m. The Under 17C team also have a second chance and will play Vermont at 12.30 p.m. Wantirna South this week. Congratulations to the 17 Ds. They defeated the 3rd placed Boronia by 51 points and now Lachy and the boys are into the preliminary final from 5th position. They have a great chance of making a grand final ifthey can win this weekend against Belgrave South at Pinks Reserve Kilsyth at 2.30 p.m. The 17 Premiers are the first into the Grand Final. They defeated Vermont convincingly by 35 points Well done to Grant Shanks and his boys for a fantastic season and they will now have this weekend off and will be fresh and hopefully ready to go at East Ringwood the week after. It was interesting that 2 of the three teams that hat the first week off struggled the second week. I am not sure if the week off helps the boys. Go Dales. Peter Koger Page 7

Junior President s Report Week 3 great results! Week three of the finals is here. We had great results with four teams playing and 3 teams winning their preliminary finals and playing next week in the grand final. Unfortunately the Under Peter Koger 13 s lost by three points in the last 2 minutes of the game. They had a great season and the boys have really started to develop. Next year they will be in with a great chance of playing more finals. The Under 17D s played at Kilsyth against South Belgrave and played a great game winning by 27 points. The boys finished 5th on the ladder and have beaten the 4th North Ringwood, 3rd Boronia, 2nd South Belgrave and now for the 1st place St Simons. The 17C team defeated Vermont by 5 goals and get a chance to have another crack at Ringwood who they lost to last week. The Under 14s also had a convincing win and now will play Knox again with a hope of turning the tables from last week. The teams playing this week are: 17 Premiers Lilydale v Vermont at East Ringwood at 2.30 p.m. 17C Lilydale v Ringwood at Walker Park Wantirna South at 2.30 p.m. 17D St Simons v Lilydale at Pinks Reserve Kilsyth at 2.30 pm 14B Lilydale v Knox at Scoresby Reserve at 12.20 pm This is a great result and we are very proud of all our teams. Make sure you wear your club apparel and get down supporting the boys this week. Best of luck to the boys. I hopefully will be seeing you at the games. The presentation day is coming up. It is on Sunday the 24th of August at the York on Lilydale. Don t forget the date. A couple of little reminders for all parents and supporters. Go Dales - Peter Koger Page 8

We started off not that great but from the start of the second quarter the boys changed that and put the game away. Todays effort was another team effort and that s what we need every player playing there role because that s what makes us play our best footy. We played some really good footy and got us into some form coming into next week. Massive game against South Belgrave this Sunday it will be a fantastic game to watch so if you ve got some free time come down and support the boys from 2:30 at Pinks Reserve Kilsyth. Thank you! We started off kicking against the wind and the boys really worked hard and we were only 1 point down at ¼ time. The second quarter we played great footy and we were 4 goals up at half time. The 3rd quarter we were against the wind again and at ¾ time we were 10 points up. The last quarter the boys responded and we ran away with a 27 point win. Today s effort was another team effort and that s what we need from every player next week in the Grand Final. Every player needs to play their role because that s what makes us play our best footy. We played some really good footy and we got into some form coming into next week. Massive game against St Simons this Sunday. Under 14B Prelim Final Q I Q 2 Q 3 Q 4 LILYDALE 3.3 4.8 4.10 8.11.59 John Gordon Coach ST SIMONS 0.0 1.3 2.4 4.4.28 BEST: Mitchell Gordon 4, Mitch Fantulin 2, Jesse Ebert, Lachlan Cox GOALS: Lachlan Cox, Mathew Waters, Riley Clausen, Jesse Ebert, Mitchell Gordon, Daniel Robson. We knew that St Simons were going to give it their best shot as they had nothing to lose and everything to gain. We started well and had a lot of the footy in our forward line but could not get a goal. It took a great kick to bring up our first goal at the 10 minute mark and another one a few minutes later. We went into the break with a 16 point lead. The second quarter was the same as the first we had lots of the play but could not score until late on the quarter taking a 20 pts at half time. The third quarter they started with a goal in the first minute after that we had all the play but still could not score a goal. We must have kicked 6 pts for the quarter but we still had a 20 pt lead going into last quarter. The on ballers lifted and gave the perfect start with quick movement out of the middle as we finally scored a much needed goal and it just kept flowing on from there. We ended up winning by 30 pts. Great game by everyone Page 14 161 Main Street, Lilydale VIC 3140 Phone: 03 9735 1622 Fax: 03 9739 6600 Email: olinda.creek.hotel@alhgroup.com.au Website: www.olindacreekhotel.com.au

MATCH GOALS: Jack Bateman 1, Lochlan Poli 1, Jackson Singer 1. SUMMARY Playing against a side who hadn t played for 3 weeks we were hoping to start well against them and our pressure early on was terrific. To be only 5 points down at half-time was a good result and I felt confident that just like last week we could run over them in the second half. To their credit though Heathmont certainly lifted their intensity in the second half, in particular one of their players who kicked half their score. I thought the scoreboard in the end certainly didn t show how competitive we were and when we get a second chance against them in the GF we must grab our chances. The prelim will be a tough affair but our best footy will be enough, we must bring it boys. Page 15

SUMMARY In a tight, tough final unfortunately there had to be a loser and it was us. The heartbreak on the boys faces along with the tears were as a result of 4 1/4s of outstanding tough, physical footy which ultimately fell short by 3 points. If I could pinpoint one area which let us down was that we had all the play in the 3 rd ¼ with the wind but just couldn t get one more goal which I thought we needed as a buffer. Although we defended mightily in the last ¼ with Jack Bateman taking mark after mark they managed to get the 2 goals in the last few minutes. Well done to Jackson Singer in particular who played in great discomfort despite a hand injury and played well. Well done to all the boys, your efforts throughout the year were fantastic and to improve to a preliminary final was a sign of bigger things to come. Page 18
