April 22, 2014 Dear Students & Parents, Get ready for the best Paint Branch Marching Band ever! The Marching Band is the most active, energetic and visible music group at Paint Branch. We perform at football games, parades, and competitions throughout the fall season. Our band had a very successful 2013-2014 season, with the LARGEST band in 10 years! Join us and become a member of this fun, exciting and growing ensemble! At this time you need to reserve your spot with the 2014 Marching Panthers. By registering, you are committing yourself for the entire Fall 2014 season. Please complete the attached forms and return them with your deposit of $100 by Friday, May 2 nd. This deposit reserves your spot on the field for our halftime show. It also covers many of the costs associated with the marching season - competition fees, transportation, staff stipends, and uniform maintenance. There is an additional one-time fee for students who need marching shoes, gloves, and the t-shirt. If you need financial assistance for any item, contact Mr. Kirchhoff for scholarship information. NO STUDENT WILL BE DENIED PARTICIPATION FOR FINANCIAL REASONS! Please make all checks and money orders payable to PBHS Music Boosters. Deliver or mail your payment to: ATTN: Sean Kirchhoff 14121 Old Columbia Pike Burtonsville, MD 20866 Our annual Marching Band Boot Camp will be held on June 3 rd & 4 th at Paint Branch HS. Attendance at these rehearsals is mandatory in order to learn your music and marching drill for the season. You will find a tentative schedule for the entire season attached to this packet. A finalized schedule will be distributed at band camp. We look forward to having you join us for the 2014 season! If you have any questions, please contact me at your earliest convenience. Competitions The marching band will participate in 3-4 competitions during the 2014 season. Competitions are held on Saturdays, and take most of the day due to rehearsal, travel time, our performance, and the awards ceremony. PLEASE leave your entire day free on competition days. Detailed schedules for each competition will be published 10-14 days in advance of each competition. Competitions are a GREAT experience for our marchers, and we look forward to building on the success of our band s awesome 2014 season! Marching Band Social Activities Drum Corps International (DCI) competitions are the best competitive Marching Bands in the world, made up of young men and women between 14-21 years old. They rehearse all summer, and compete around the country. Go to www.dci.org for event information. I strongly encourage everyone to attend a DCI event if possible to see what marching bands are capable of. Thursday, August 7 th 6:30 p.m. - BIG, LOUD & LIVE 10 DCI Quarterfinals broadcast LIVE into local movie theaters on the big screen. This is an awesome event that will last about 4 hours. Check www.dci.org/cinema for time and locations later this summer. Paint Branch marching band staff and section leaders plan to attend the show at the Columbia AMC 14 Theater. Tickets usually cost about $17 for this 5-hour marching event. Feel free to join us!
