From the Principal Planning for 2018 We will shortly begin the process of allocating our current students to classes for 2017. As you can imagine this is a time consuming process for us and there are a number of considerations that need to be taken into account. We consider friendships (both the positive and negative effects), academic ability, a spread of gender as well as emotional and social needs. If you have any requests for next year s placements you need to let me know in writing by Friday 18th November, stating your r equest and r easons.(if you have alr eady put in a r equest in previous years please restate it as then it cant be overlooked). This is particularly important for twins and children with siblings in the same year level. You cannot request a specific teacher and although there are no guarantees, certainly social or emotional needs may be considered. It will be too late after 18th November as once we go down the track of allocating students to classes it is too hard to make changes without there being a snowball effect. Unless you have specific and reasonable requests I encourage you to trust the teachers judgements as they always do their utmost to ensure the best placement for your child. If your family is leaving our community and your child will not be returning to Chirnside Park PS in 2018 could you please let us know as soon as possible School Uniform At Chirnside we wear our school uniform with pride and it is important that all children stay within the policy guidelines However recently I have noticed that some children are not adhering to our uniform policy. I would like to remind you that the wearing of nail polish and jewellery with the exception of a watch is not allowed. Also hair adornments and ties should be in school colours and not multi coloured or flamboyant. Evacuation Drill Last week we had a lock down drill to practice our procedures should we need to keep children safe from a real or perceived threat of any type. Our OH&S policy requires us to regularly practise various forms of evacuation drills. This one involved all children returning to their classrooms and the locking of all external doors. Our student s safety is of paramount importance to us. You will be pleased to hear that all went very smoothly and the children were very quick to respond to what was required. Jan Marinakos The Grade 3/4 students are currently learning about the strong connection many Indigenous Australians have with the land. Today they created their own waterproof huts made entirely from natural resources. 2

Physical Education Upcoming Regional Hooptime Events We recently had 3 teams competing in Regional Hooptime events over the last week. Our 5/6 Allstar Boys, 5/6 Mixed Future Stars Cheetahs and 3/4 Allstar Girls all competed for the chance to contest the State Hooptime Finals later in the year. All our teams tried their best and never gave up against the bigger schools with numerous rep players, however didn t progress through to the next round. It was a great effort for them to make it this far. Thank-you to all the parents who came and assisted our teams as coaches and scorers. Dino, Ryan, Julie, Anthony, Lisa and Michael you were amazing! Division Athletics We recently had two students compete at the Bill Sewart Athletics Track in Burwood for the Regional Championships due to their scintillating efforts at the Division Championships the week before. Janel competed in the 12/13 girls 100m and triple jump, whilst Holly competed in the 12/13 girls discus. Both girls fought and competed valiantly, however weren t able to progress to the state championships. Great effort for reaching this level this year girls! Grade 5/6 Community Sports Day Friday 10th November Friday next week is the Grade 5/6 Community Sports Carnival at Oxley College, for all 5/6 students to attend. A notice went home this week. As there is no payment due for this event all forms must be back to the office by this Friday 3rd November. As always parental assistance is required with this event so if you are able to assist managing one of our seven small teams, please indicate on the form. 3

Inspired by the amazing Grade 5/6s, the Grade 3/4s have given the art of rapping a go. We have worked hard on making sure our raps have rhyme, rhythm and relevance. Netball Zoe I m always on the ball, Cause I m really tall. I m always the best, Especially after my rest. I love to play, Because I always slay The other team Cause they re so mean. I put them to shame, Because they re really lame. I play good on the court, Cause I m awesome at sport. Basketball Jennifer and Kristina I dribble the ball, Sometimes I fall. I always dunk, And it has a lot of funk. I like the fame, It s all about my name. It just goes in the ring, It s kind of my thing. I do a little spin, Whenever I win. This is the end of our song, I hope it wasn t too long. FNAF Jackson It is 12am, that s midnight You have to stay alive to fight. When they come alive, There is no place to hide. Freddy s a bear, But I wouldn t dare. You got to stay five nights, If I were you, I d keep a light. Good luck tonight, And make sure you don t get a fright. 4

The Preps have been learning about reptiles!! We have learnt that they: 1) Are cold blooded 2) They have scaly skin 3) They can camouflage in their environment SUBWAY SOUNDS CONCERT It is concert time once again for all Subway Sounds Instrumentalist. This year we are having our concert on Monday December the 11th starting at 6.45pm in the school s multi-purpose room. All children are scheduled to perform at least one item. As with last year s concert, door prizes can be won and exam students will be presented with their certificates. Children are welcome to dress in their finest attire for the evening; school uniform is not a pre-requisite. Concerts are one of the best ways for talented students to show their great skills to all the mums and dads, so I hope to see everyone there and would love to catch up for a chat at the conclusion. See you all there. Thank you. Christian Duboudin Subway Sounds 5
