June 2006 www.cowtownmopars.com The President s Desk The Starting Line Newsletter for Cowtown Mopars Performance Team Pictures from various TMCCC races in 2006 Summer is here and the racing will stop for a couple of months, but we can still get together at local shows, meetings and Bill Boon's. We are going to have another cruise night at Bill Boon's, the 2nd Saturday in July. So July 8th at 6:00pm make your way to Bill's and bring your old car, new car...and something to share. The club will provide the meat and drinks. Hope to see ya there! On June 3rd a few of us went to the COMA show in Oklahoma. Dave Mandato, Rich Lemmon, Peggy Woodrell (now an Oklahoma resident), Super Dave Pasquini (also now an Oklahoma resident) and myself all won awards at the show. Congratulations to everyone! And congratulations to COMA for another GREAT show! On June 4th 20 Cowtown Mopar Racers were at Thunder Valley Raceway in Oklahoma and it was another GREAT day at the track. No less than 8 of the 20 racers won awards. Congratulations everyone. Memorial Day weekend we had our annual joint picnic with the Dallas Mopar Club. It was a nice day for a picnic and we had a good time. Next year we will be sure not to have it on a holiday weekend so more of you can participate. Kelly and his helpers had the poker run working a little different this time and it worked out great. Thank you all for your efforts in making it another good time. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY! See ya soon! Beep Beep! Mark Buchanan Cowtown Mopars President
Page 2 From the Vice President I am sitting here thinking of what to write about. No more TMCCC races for a few months. Car show and picnic are behind us. It's getting to the time of year when it gets hot outside. You have to wax the car at 6 am to work on semi cool metal. You have to keep a towel in the car to sit on so you don't burn your legs on the vinyl seats while wearin' yer shorts. You have to drink a can of soda in one gulp 'cause if you try to do it in two gulps, the second one will be hot. It's the time of year when you see heat waves behind AND in front of airplanes. If you put a mercury thermometer in the direct sun it will explode. You choose to eat at Sonic instead of McDonalds because you can park in the shade. All Club members in good standing will be offered a discount by www.rockauto.com beginning this month let them Know you re part of CMPT!!!! What's a guy to do? Sounds to me like the right time to have an ice cream social. Big old banana split or a king sized Root Beer float. I ain't talking some little bitty sundae here... we are talkin' about a quart of ice cream made into something. May just have to do that. Maybe we could just cruise down to a snow cone stand. Oh yeah... now were talkin'. Double cherry snow cone! Makes me shiver thinkin' about it. Actually it make me think of brain freeze... Maybe we should look into something like that for one of our cruise nights. We don't need no hamburgers. We want ice cream. Yeah... it's gonna be a long boring summer. Would someone please pass the butter pecan crunch? Mike Miller, Owner M.P.A.R. http://www.millerperformance.net TEXAS MUSCLE CAR CLUB CHALLENGE SCHEDULE SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY!!!! From The Staging Lanes Those of us who went to Denton discovered that Whamo the inventors of the Slip and Slide have moved into the field of drag strip operation. In the faster classes of Pro Muscle and Electronics he who spun least won. After 2 rounds the racers and TMCCC boss Ron Dillinger decided to stop running Pro and Electronics classes because of the very unsafe track conditions. Pro and Electronics will be finishing the Denton race at Red Line in the fall. Of the 9 cars left in Pro Muscle 6 are Cowtown Mopars racers. We had many racers do well in the classes that finished their eliminations and a lot of our racers went multiple rounds. Car of the Month June 2006 Kim Humphrey s 1974 Dodge Dart Sport This 1974 Dodge Dart Sport has been in the club for many years. It was originally owned and raced by Tommy Craig, and it set an NMCA record for the class it was in. It was raced with a small block and 4 speed. After Tommy passed away, it was finally sold to Lonnie Hendry who had it for several years, but never put it on the track. I recently purchased it from Lonnie and got the original small block from Rick Mariano, I have installed the motor and put an automatic in the car. It has been to the track now twice and I have ran a 6.90 @ 99 mph in the 1/8 mile. That is shifting the car at 6200 and only launching it at 3600. I feel it has more in it and will find out in the weeks to come. Future plans call for either a stroked small block or a big block, not sure yet. I plan on using it for NHRA Super Street and Super Gas racing. I am hoping to have it run mid 5's in the 1/8 and high 8's in the quarter by early next year.
