UPCOMING EVENTS June 22nd - Mopar Picnic River Legacy Park in Arlington 9am-2pm. THERE IS NO CLUB MEETING AT BILLY BOB S THIS MONTH!!!!!!! MORITZ Jeep. Cowtown Mopars Performance Team PO Box Fort Worth, Texas Place Postage Here Rush To:
June 2008 THE STARTING LINE The Official Monthly Publication of Cowtown Mopars MOPARS AT THE MOTORPLEX 2008 In 2007 the leadership of CPMT decided it was past time to have a "Mopar Race". With the new leadership of club president Ken Castleman and secretary Rick Mariano an ALL MO- PAR race was planned at the newly owned North Star Dragway in Denton. In about 4 to 6 weeks the race was planned and very succesful. In the next few months ideas and planning were made for the annual show and another ALL MOPAR race. It was concluded that in the best interest of the club with a new sponsor that the annual show would go on as normal and the 2008 ALL MOPAR race would be separate. So in April the annual show was at Moritz CJ and in May we held Mopars at the Motorplex. The CMPT board members decided to support a 4 man group consisting of Mike Miller and Mark Buchanan from CMPT and Ron Dillinger and Gaylen Williams from the Dallas Mopar Club. Mopars at the Motorplex was a team effort, both clubs were involved in all the planning and running of the race. I'm excited about the MANY possibilities that this race brings to both clubs. The future is VERY BRIGHT for Mopars at the Motorplex and I CAN NOT wait until next year!! Thank you to Ken and Rick for starting this last year! Thank you to Mike, Ron and Gaylen for their time and efforts. Thank you to all of our sponsors this year: MAALT Transport (Marty Robertson), Texas Trailer Man (Bill Boon), Nickels Auto Works (Phillip Nickels), MPAR (Mike Miller), Rockford R.O.W. (Randy Gunter), Texas Thunder (Danny Bell), Mike Smith Machine, Cowtown Muscle Cars (Costa Triantaphilides), BJS Racing (Jason Hamner and Painless Wiring). There were 2 other sponsors that asked to be anonymous. Thank you to the club members and board members that supported the race with their presence and efforts! And last but not least THANKS to Marty Robertson who took charge of this year's charity. He helped raise more than $20,000 for the Children's Miracle Network. I could go on and on about the race, but Kirk would not have enough room for it all in this month's newletter. I will have more as time and paper allow. Beep Beep! See ya Mark Buchanan Race team coordinator ALL WINNERS FROM MOPARS AT THE MOTORPLEX ARE LISTED ON PAGE 7. IF YOU HAVE NOT RENEWED YOUR CLUB MEMBERSHIP FOR 2008 THIS WILL BE YOUR LAST NEWSLETTER!!!!!! WE HAVE A NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE NOT YET RENEWED!!!!
Step out the door and the heat will tell you that Summer is already here. It seems to have hit early this year as we all have realized. That s alright though because we have our Annual Joint Picnic with the Dallas Club on June 22 nd at Legacy Pavilion at River Legacy Park in Arlington from 9AM til 2 PM and we will have plenty of food and cold refreshments. This will also be our Club Meeting since it is normally the week before and that is Fathers Day. We are also adding the LX Group along with it so we hope to have a good turnout. We plan to have a mini-car show so be sure to bring your cars out and participate with us. Of course we will have a 50/50 pot and some giveaways also. The plans are to have Catfish, Burgers and Dogs. Bring any side dishes and deserts that you want to round it all out. I also want to announce that the club has bought an enclosed trailer to house all our equipment so we have everything in one central location instead of being scattered all over North Texas. We should have it in a few weeks and to help fund the Trailer, we are selling sponsorships to be put on the trailer. For a one time donation of $100, your company s name will go on both sides of the trailer. This is not $100 per year, it is $100 for the life of the trailer. The trailer will go to our car shows, picnic, some races and possibly to some of the Cruise Ins that I hope to have in the near future. I want to get the club to travel in mass to some of the shows in the area. We have gotten past the Mopars at the Motorplex and I will let Mark handle that in his section since he is our race coordinator. I just want to say thanks to everyone that participated and organized the event. For the first time, I think it was a success. I am putting a call out for us to bring in some younger members. If you know anyone with young adults that are into their Neon s, Stratus or whatever, let s try to get them active in the club. We are going to have a new Young Guns class for the shows to help encourage the younger generation to participate and if we can get some interested in joining the race team, it will help the club grow and lay seeds for new growth toward the restoration of the Classic Mopars as the younger generation becomes more financially able to move in that direction. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions. Hope to see all of you at the Picnic. Mike Bearce From The Desk of El Presidente
FROM THE SECRETARY S OFFICE Another month has passed and the heat's rising. It's not officially summer yet but you can't tell by looking outside. We've got our picnic coming up. Bring out the friends, family, and of course your ride. After that, things will wind down a little bit. After having the hottest May on record, we're going to be in for a long hot summer. Be sure to drink lots of fluids and try to stay out of the sun. Be safe, stay cool, and we'll see you the next time around. Kevin Alexander Events Calendar CHRISTIAN CLASSIC CRUISERS - June 21st, Meet at Rosa s Café at 4PM. NO CLUB MEETING AT BILLY BOB S THIS MONTH!!!! 5 2008 MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION Ken Key - Keeper of the Rosters May always seems to get the local car scene into full swing, whether you are into racing, the show field, or just cruising around. Although I don't race, I had a blast at the "Mopars at the Motorplex". If you didn't make it, you missed a really fun day. I think all of us who were there hope that it becomes an annual event. We keep trying to get as many CMPT members as we can to meet at Rosa's Cafe on the third Saturday of each month for a bite to eat before we cruise over to the Christian Classic Cruisers monthly car show. Those of us who do go, always have a great time. Members usually start arriving from 4:00 to 4:30. That gives everyone time to eat and visit. Join us if you can! We picked up four new members in May; Dale Crane from Ft. Worth, Chris and Elaine Griffin from Ennis, and Mike Moriarity from Allen. Be sure and make them feel welcome. Currently, we have 130 paid members, with 56 'missing in action' from last year. We are passed our "grace" period for 2008 renewals. Current CMPT dues are as follows: Single Membership, new or renewal $25.00 Family Membership, new or renewal $35.00 Ken Key Membership Director Contact info: Cowtown Mopars Performance Team PO Box Fort Worth, Texas info@cowtownmopars.com Remember to check for up to date events and club news at Also, remember to check the club message board at: Or click the Message Board link on the club website.

JUNE CAR OF THE MONTH GARY TOOKER S 1972 PLYMOUTH ROADRUNNER CLONE I am finally almost done with the 72 Satellite that I bought from Mark Buchanan back in September of '07 and have cloned into a RR. I've pretty much done everything on it myself. Did all of the body work and paint on it, redid the interior, and dropped in a rebuilt 440 I had "laying around" in my "spare time." I also installed a set of front disk brakes, rebuilt the whole front end, added a front sway bar, and am in the process of finishing it up. Guarantee you that Mark would never recognize it :) Gary
