From The President s Desk: Greetings to the membership of DGSC. It appears Spring is finally upon us. As I sit here typing this message its 75 degree s outside with additional warm weather predicted in the weeks ahead. Time to get out to the club and do some shooting. With that in mind, remember that all Senior Membership badges now have 5 round spaces to be used for non-member (or family member) introductory shooting. Simply tell the front desk personnel to punch the badge and charge your guest at the Shooting Member rate. You will be allowed to use this feature up to 5 times/visits during 2018. There is no limit as to how many times it gets used on an individual day. There are several projects underway at the club. Don Cox is running with the Herman Welch pavilion build along with additional lighting for field 7. Harvey Shell is working on the Target Management system. Chuck Farber has all the mowers and such tuned and ready for grass cutting and also has some volunteers working on clearing volunteer trees from our CRP fields. Al Maly and Stan Systo drove up to Minnesota with two of our PAT Traps and learned how to rebuild and fine tune them. The idea now is to get a few other people trained and to start rotating them for complete tear down maintenance. Al tells me the trip was certainly worth the time and money spent. Many thanks to those who has been stepping up to volunteer their time and effort. All the best, and good shooting. Art Jablonski Vice President Remarks: Shooting season is finally in full swing and the volunteering membership has been busier than ever before! Buildings, Maintenance, and Grounds under guidance from Chuck Farber, Mike Pietrzak, and Don Cox have hit the ground running with lots of work to the Sporting Clays area, Buildings, and Machinery. ATA Directors Al Maly and Stan Systo have been revamping the Pat Traps after a trip up North to attend a PAT Trap maintenance class. Of course Mr. Chambers remains busy maintaining the shotgun sports. The names of volunteers are too many to mention but your help is greatly appreciated on all levels. When the weather is agreeable the aforementioned need help so please volunteer if you have time available! A note that Senior Membership is able to access wholesale type pricing for our club via the pricing menu on the DGSC website. Participation has been light and if it remains so I will ask the board to open the program to shooting membership in order to maintain bulk discounts. Prices/Order form: http://www.downersgrovesc.com/slides/orderform.pdf The Following Probationary Members have been approved and must start completing their 60 hour work requirement, and obtain an hour log from myself or Larry Chambers: Alec Anderson, Angelo Deangelis, Jed Davis, Brian Svoboda, George Adelman, Josh Wexelbaum, Kevin McCauley, Michael Nutt, Rich Kelly, and Stan Systo. Note to Probationary member if you have not submitted your dues payment is due immediately! Remember to police your empties and stay safe on the range. Judson Mann

Secretary Notes: At General Membership Meetings there will be a sign in sheet in two locations by 50/50 (if running) and up by the Secretary. We ask that you please sign in on one of these sheets this is optional not required with one exception as a probationary member you are required (Article X Section 3) to attend 2 General Membership Meetings during your probationary year. These sign in sheets will be collected at the end of the meeting and put into the meetings official record. The Vice President and next year membership committee will review those sign in sheets to verify Probationary Members met their meeting attendance requirement. Please keep in mind this sign in sheet will not be used for voting as many people come and go. A head count is taken at the time of each vote and verified/compared with another member votes then are based on number of senior members in the room voting at that specific time. Deb Fredrick Spray & Check Yourself We have hear this year ticks and mosquitoes are planned to be at an all time worst. Please make sure to use bug spray and check yourself especially after helping out on the grounds, CRP, hunting and even shooting (especially Sporting Clays). We suggest using bug spray before working and shooting. Grants: Friends of the NRA & NRA Foundation Grant 2018 DGSC Youth Program Members, take advantage of this extraordinary opportunity. Invite your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or friends (under 18) to experience DGSC Clay target sports at a very minimal cost. Thanks to our Friends of the NRA & NRA Foundation Grant. The purpose of this Grant is to develop and expand the current and future youth programs at Downers Grove Sportsmen s Club. The Friends of the NRA and NRA Foundation have provided the club with targets and (limited) shells to offer young shooters (under 18 yrs. old) a reduced cost. Each participant in the program must complete a DGSC registration form to be eligible. Only then, may a participant purchase a youth shooting card. Each card will be sold for a $20.00 range fee and will entitle the youth to 10 rounds of trap or skeet with shells. DGSC will execute the program in a fair and equitable manner, we will limit the offer to 1 card per person. Currently 40 shooting cards available from the Grant and the DGSC Youth Shooting Program. The program will be expanded or terminated pending availability of shells and targets provided. Only youth shooter cards will qualify for a reduced range fee. Anyone interested in participating in the program, should contact, Ken Cechura, Larry Chambers, or Mark Matteson. Registration forms are available at the counter. Shooters under the age of18 must be supervised by a responsible adult. Ken Cechura

NRA/STATE NEWS: Did You Know > I received a response from the 1st National Bank of Omaha? As you may recall, I reported in the March newsletter about the 1st National Bank of Omaha not renewing their contract with the NRA to issue the NRA Visa card. My response was to cut up my NRA Visa card and send it back to them, with a letter expressing my ire that they would bow to special interest groups opposed to the 2nd amendment. I also encouraged you all to do the same. I received a letter from the office of the president. The statement " Customer feedback has caused us to review our relationship with the NRA. As a result, First National Bank of Omaha will not renew its contract with the National Rifle Association to issue the NRA Visa Card." That's about the most chickenshit response by a large company to special interest groups I have seen. "Customer feedback" It is quite obvious that we, the supporters of the 2nd Amendment, are not making enough noise and standing up for our rights. When the NRA fails, all gun owners fail! I encourage you all to contact the 1st National Bank of Omaha and let them hear us loud and clear. Take this message back to your friends and relatives who support the 2nd Amendment and let our voices be heard! The time to stand up is NOW! Harney Shell DGSC Annual Picnic Save the Date- - -SUNDAY Aug. 26, 2018 3 guns will be raffled off at this years Picnic: 1. Ruger - Security 9-9mm. 2. Smith & Wesson - M&P 15 Sport - 2.23/5.56mm. 3. Maintenance Updates: We are making progress on machine maintenance. There have been a couple dead batteries and a bad solar panel. We had to replace a gearbox on one machine. Mouse nests are still the biggest issue for jamming up moving parts. Last week we had a golf cart issue, we have ordered parts for that repair. Mike Pietrzak Taking Care of Grounds: John Allgeyer and I just finished all the maintenance on both the John Deere and Toro zero turn mowers. Toro zero turn is in for repair. The filters, oils, blades and coolant has been changed. Weed killer and fertilizer has been applied and the machines are ready to go. For the numerous members who have asked to help cut the grass at the club after shooting hours - machines are ready with new blades (toro zero turn is in shop check in for its return). Please do no cut where the white flags are showing. Don Cox has some contractors coming to do some work, but the fields need to be cut and any help is appreciated. Chuck Farber We are creating a roster/list of DGSC Members or people nearby whom are NRA Instructors or are planning on renewing/obtaining an NRA Instructor Certification. We have lots of new shooters interested in our sport and it would help if we had a current list of NRA Instructors among the club. Also if anyone has suggestions of good teaching trap/skeet/sporting Clay videos please let us know. Email Ken or Deb. Sunday May 20th - General Membership Meeting 9am in DGSC great room; Please as arriving for Sunday AM shooting respect meeting finishing up in great room.
