At our last Committee Meeting in June, my suggestion of building a permanent outdoor BBQ facility at the Tennis Club was met with great enthusiasm. We hope to contribute the proceeds towards the construction of an outdoor BBQ area at Rye TC. Bye now Good Hitting Lorraine Watt Saturday Senior Competition Summer 2014/2015 Rye had two teams competing in the Peninsula Tennis Association Saturday afternoon comp over the 2014/2015 summer season: Men s Section 4 Singles consisting of Luke Forward and Ned Jordan finished the season without a win. Luke finished the season with 3 singles victories, but Ned was unable to win one for the season. Unfortunately Luke was injured for most of the second half of the season and the boys were often unable to get a fill-in resulting in a number of forfeits. Hopefully the guys can come back fit and healthy next summer season. Jay on the overhand closed out a solid win against Josh Dewhirst 6/4, 6/4. The boys then went on for the doubles in the back of their minds was the previous summer season s result where they lost their doubles to lose the grand final. Men s Section 1 Singles consisting of Michael Morris and Jay Debernardi (with guest appearances from James Morris). The boys had a great season and finished on top of the ladder after the home and away season with both Jay and Michael only losing one singles apiece. The boys had a tough semi-final against Bruce Park, Both boys losing the first set in their respective singles with Michael eventually triumphing but Jay going down 7/6 in the third. Playing solid doubles the boys came through the doubles in straight sets 6/3 7/6 The final was played against Langwarrin at Frankston. This time Michael went down in a close two sets 4/6, 6/7 against Jayden Cox. Michael, after coming back from 2/5, 15/40 looked like he was going to go to three but stumbled in the 2 nd set tiebreaker. The boys played solid doubles with Michael volleying well and Jay putting pressure on the opposition with strong baseline drives. The boys proved the better doubles pair on the day emerging victors 6/4 6/2 and as a result Section 1 Men s Singles Premiers for 2014/2015. Both Jay and Michael agreed that the results was the most satisfying that they had had for quite a while. Hopefully the team will be back for the 2015/2016 summer season to defend their title. At some stage, father time will catch up with them both as Jay will turn the big 3 0 this year and Michael will be closing in on 54. However, if they both remain healthy who knows?? Well Done Guys!!
ISSUE 2 2015 OUR SERVE Page 4 NIGHT COMPETITION Well, what a great season with not too many issues. Unfortunately we had one mixed team having to pull out of the season midway due to work, travel and injuries. Hope to see you all back again soon. Congratulations to all teams whether you made it to the finals or not. It's a great thing to get out at night for health and social reasons. We had 4 teams make the grand finals this season, 2 winning and 2 runners up. Congratulations to men s sec 2 and sec 3 on winning and bad luck to ladies sec 1 and sec 2 blue on becoming runners up. Both the men s and ladies finals exhibited great tennis on the night and all should be very proud of their efforts. Next winter season starts on the 13th July and ball and info pickup will be at the clubhouse on Friday 10th July @ 7.30pm. Captains, don't forget to bring ball money of approx. $80 on collection.
