TLC 2013 will provide the experiences you need to solve the mystery of leadership to make your future bright! In keeping with our mystery theme, delegates will be entertained throughout the week while teaching essential leadership skills. South Dakota Teen Leadership (TLC) will provide a great balance of leadership training, personal growth and fun to any South Dakota youth between 13 and 18 years of age. This year we will offer workshop tracks in the areas of Technology, Family and Consumer Science, Agriculture, and Leadership. Each track will contain three workshops in that area. We will also offer our traditional sessions about career exploration, community involvement and trying something new. We will also have a nationally known keynote speaker, John Beede. Plan to participate in these fun events! The registration fee for TLC is $200 through May 1st. Your registration fee includes conference fees, room, and meals. After May 1, the fee will be raised to $225, until May 15 when registration closes. Transportation to Brookings is not covered. 4-H Performing Arts for 13 to 18 year olds Submitted by Kathy Sperry Would you like to sing and dance and perform with other youth this summer? Then consider becoming part of the South Dakota 4-H Performing Arts Troupe. The South Dakota 4-H Performing Arts Troupe is a theater arts educational experience for youth ages 13 through 18 on January 1st, 2013. This year s seven-day preparation camp is scheduled for June 9 15, 2013, on the campus of Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. The camp prepares youth to perform at summer venues and at the 2013 South Dakota State Fair in Huron, SD, from August 31 to September 2. Camp week concludes with two shows, one on Friday evening and the other on Saturday morning. Both performances are at the Northern State University Johnson Fine Arts Center and are open to the public. The registration fee for the 7 day camp is $350 through Friday, April 26. After Friday, April 26, the fee is $375. The registration fee pays for lodging, meals/evening snacks, insurance, facility rental, and performance attire. Youth wishing to participate in the 2013 4-H Performing Arts Troupe should complete and submit the Audition/Registration form by April 26th. Forms are available from our Brown County 4-H Office or on igrow at: www.igrow.org. Please contact 4-H Performing Arts Board Member, Kathy Sperry, with any questions at 229-4591.

4-H Judging Qualifications Sessions (Consumer Decision Making) We will be releasing dates and times for the Judging Qualification Sessions in the next couple weeks. Judging takes about one to one and one half hours. Members should plan to attend accordingly as judging classes will not be re-displayed at a later date. Since two judging qualification sessions have been held, first and second year judging members are expected to complete judging on their own. 4-H Fruit Sale Update By Kathy Sperry THANK YOU AND CONGRATULATIONS to every 4-H club for participating in this year s 4-H Fruit Sale! It was a great success! Next month, look in your May Newshound for the final numbers and your club s share of the profit it earned. How can this money benefit our communities? Consider supporting the State 4-H Community Service project of Feeding South Dakota? How can this money make 4-H a better experience for the members? Consider paying toward 4-H Camp costs, 4-H Performing Arts Camp, 4-H Youth s, etc. The members who worked so hard to earn the money should benefit from some of it. This year we strongly encourage each 4-H club to make a financial donation to the Brown County 4-H Endowment Campaign. We continue to seek funds to reach our goal for this fund. We, as 4-H clubs and families, need to pledge our own money for the future of 4-H in Brown County. Contact our Endowment chair person, Mike Frey, if you have any questions at 605-715-8223. Congratulations!! Congratulations to the Brown County Senior Hippology Team for placing 2nd at the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo! The members of the team are Adrianne Schaunaman, Joellen Gonsoir, Colt Hokana, and Kaitlynn Ringgenberg. We also want to congratulate the Quiz Bowl Team for placing 5th at the Stock Show and Rodeo. The members of the team are Adrianne Schaunaman, Joellen Gonsoir, Colt Hokana, Kaitlynn Ringgenberg and Cassandra Townsend. This is what awesome looks like!
