August 2018 Around the Course: They qualified! John Darrah and Richard Wishon played their qualifying round at Poppy Ridge last week and they qualified. I don t have the details but they will now move on to the next round on their way to the 2 man best ball NCGA championship. In case you did not know, the club helps with expenses for those who qualify for NCGA events. Congratulations to John and Rich, we are rooting for you.

We have a new course manager. (Sharon is rather camera shy so please pardon us for not including a photo) Just when you think you have it figured out, things changed at SRGC. Dave is no longer the course manager and according to Sharon they will not be sending another manger from the outside. Sharon is taking on the duties of Manager and we wish her the best. Sharon has been very helpful to our club over the years and has always been straight with us. We look forward to working with her and the staff to make the transition as easy as possible. And what does our club champion do to make his golfing better? He recently tried out the new Golf Board and had a ball. He was scooting around the course like a pro. And his golf wasn t bad either.

Did you know that we have a new teaching pro? If you haven t already, meet Paige Phillips our new teaching pro. She also has a management position in the pro shop. And good news she is willing to give members a special deal on lessons. So please bring you friends and sign up for a group lesson at a very special price. She has been very helpful to club members so let s see if we can give her some business. See Paige for details. The course is playing well! I am happy to report that the course is in very good shape. The greens are good and the fairways are very good, making the course very playable. Get out and try it. Well he is at it again. Celebrating a spectacular shot yet again. Chuck G. is making so many good shots lately it is hard to keep track. I can t even remember what shot he made here. Ask him and you will get a lively answer.

I m dreaming about that shot I made over on number 3. (George Case) If I could only remember what I did right? Tournament gathering Getting together on the 18 th hole is becoming a habit for the club. Thanks to Joe Appleby s efforts several sponsors have stepped up to by beers for the participants. Who will be the next sponsor? How about those new Tee Box signs? Nice touch.

Getting started last month for the Memorial qualifier. Don P and Bill To won their respective flights (see results below) Joe has a special place for you Joe Appleby has created a Facebook page for club members only. Head on over to the internet and go to https://www.facebook.com/groups/400493853720620/?fref=nf You will find some very interesting pictures, comments and information. Remember, only club members can join or read the content on this page. I did not do any Facebook before this but have enjoyed this page a lot. We are trusting Facebook to not share our precious info. If you haven t done so please Sign up on the Ghin website. You will not get emails from the club unless you sign up. If you are not getting emails from the club please let us know so that we can work on the issues. Since you are a member of the USGA (through the NCGA with your Ghin number) you are already able to log on to the site. However, you will have to create a login. If you go to www.ghin.com it will walk you through creating a login. After you are able to log in you will see all of your handicap information displayed. The box on the right side labeled mygame has an eclubhouse that you may choose. Please choose San Ramon Men s GC. That takes you right to the Men s Club web site. While you are there be sure to check your profile as there may be missing information. Several members do not have email addresses on file, which means the club cannot send information about any club activity, including the Birdie Times. Please contact me if you have any issues. Joe

Now for a little news. The new 9am tournament start time for is now in effect. Remember to sign up early for tournaments. We collected several late fees last tournament and will continue to inforce late sign up fees. We have to let the course know the number of players on the Monday before the tournament. We are being told by management that Golf Moose vouchers will not be honored for tournament play any longer. Remember, we now have to post our scores as guests at the San Ramon posting computer. The PayPal site has been set up and you can pay for Tournaments by sending money to srgolfmensclub@gmail.com There are new rates for weekend golf. Check them out and you will be saving over $20 for tournament play. No excuses now I hear the Carson trip was a real success. Everyone says they had a great time with the golf and other activities. See Gary Z. if you think you might want to participate next year. 2018 Renewals are Strong We continue to add new members. This is a good sign. Mike G. says that we are on budget for this year and that the new members have given us a nice boost. We just got two more so we are doing great. We have lowered the yearly fee for new members to $79. The membership is good through the end of 2018. Look for forms in the Men s Club Kiosk Mike tells me that we are at over 90 members and looking for more. Secretaries Note: The Birdie Times is published as an information source for the San Ramon Golf Course Men s Club. It is a living document that is updated from time to time to inform members of what is happening both around the course and with the members. It cannot be complete without your input and I encourage you to keep me informed as to any events, special rounds, complaints and news from the membership. Please email me at jvoelker@pacbell.net so that I can report all of the news and not just what I see. This is your club and your newsletter!

What are you doing on Monday evenings? Come on out and enjoy a fun 9 hole match with the boys. The format is a little funky but the part afterwards is not. I have tried it a couple of times and have had a very good time and have met some new fellow golfers. It is called the clip and starts around 4:30pm each Monday. The winner (low gross) gets to pick the format for the next week. It is a good time for low handicappers as they pay for low gross as well as low net. Hopefully, I will see you out there. Pay Early! (And often if you are inclined) Due to a rash of late sign ups we are enforcing the $5 fee for late entries. We have to turn in the tee times on the Monday before the tournament so the deadline is the Sunday before. You can see what a hassle it would be if we have to go back to the course and request extra tee times. They sell them after we submit our list. If you have not signed up for this months tournament yet you will have to pay $30 to play. (If there is room) Your Board of Directors Just in case you may have forgotten. Here is your board of directors. The dinner meeting /putting contest? The dinner meeting will be Wednesday the 15 th with a putting contest before the dinner. Come on out and make a few new golfing buddies. I won the putting contest last month so I will be the reigning champ until tomorrow. For you new guys, you can just show up for the putting contest and plunk down your $5 and start putting. The signup sheet for the dinner is in the Men s Club Kiosk. It is located just outside of the 19 th hole. It looks like an old telephone booth, because it was. Be sure to sign up so that we can let them know how many will be at the dinner. Your first dinner is free so the price is right. I recently tried out a new chair for my man cave. What do you think?
