The Final Countdown The Blue Hose play their final midweek contest of the season on Tuesday night with a matchup against the College of Charleston Cougars. PC dropped the first two games of its weekend series against Charleston Southern before mounting a ninth-inning comeback to take the final game on Sunday, 5-4. Series History Tuesday s game marks the first meeting between the two sides since each team restored its program PC in 1988, College of Charleston in 1991. The Blue Hose enter the game with a 5-6 record against Southern Conference opponents and toppled the last SoCon foe they met in a 9-4 win at Davidson on May 3. On the Mound PC will likely start freshman righthander Bud Jeter against the Cougars, marking his 13th start of the year. Jeter has gone 5-6 this year and started last Tuesday s game against No. 3 South Carolina, taking a loss after allowing four runs on as many hits in four innings. Jeter ranks second on the team in wins and is tied for the team lead in strikeouts, with 39. Scouting the Cougars College of Charleston checks in with a 34-18 record and a 17-10 marker in Southern Conference play. The Cougars took two of three from Applachian State over the weekend and have won 11 of their last 14. Local product Daniel Aldrich leads the team with a.381 average and ranks second in RBI, with 68. Likely starter Jake Zokan has 18 appearances on the year and opponents have hit at a.260 clip against the lefthanded sophomore. A Season to Remember Next Up for the Blue Hose... The Blue Hose wrap up the season with a three-game series against UNC Asheville in Asheville, N.C. The series kicks off on Thursday at 1 p.m. and continues through Saturday.

The Blue Hose are off to the best record in the Division I era, racking up a 21-31 record thus far. The team s March 30th win over Wofford broke the Division I win record of 15 that PC set last year and the team s May 8 win over Winthrop gave the team its first 20- win season since the Blue Hose went 25-30 in 2004. Shortstop Standing Tall Sophomore shortstop Andrew Williams has emerged as one of the Big South s most outstanding leadoff men, ranking second in the conference in triples (four). Williams saw his 2011-record 13-game hitting streak end at Clemson but his 71 hits tie for sixth in the league. Williams also captured Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District III Second Team honors for his work in the classroom, maintaining a 3.96 grade point average as a psychology major. His 146 assists this season also tie him with Evan Sowell s fourth-best modern season in that category, set in 2005. Freshman Phenom Freshman C/1B Brad Zebedis has played a key role in PC s early success, leading the team in nearly every batting category. Zebedis leads the Blue Hose in average (.414), hits (82), total bases (136), runs (41), home runs (11), RBI (50), slugging percentage (.687) and onbase percentage (.478). Zebedis also leads the conference in several of the same categories, including batting average, hits, home runs and total bases. South Conference Choice Hotels Player of the Week on March 21 for his strong play in the midst of a 10-game hitting streak. According to the Big South Conference, the freshman could become the first freshman in Big South history to lead the Conference in batting average and home runs in the same season. The last freshman to lead the league in hitting was Liberty s Keith Butler in 2000, while the last freshman to lead the Big South in homers was Winthrop s Daniel Carte in 2003. Terrific Tony Junior outfielder Tony Micklon has found enormous success at the plate, ranking second on the team in batting average (.344), total bases (113), slugging percentage (.589), RBI (45) and on-base percentage (.413). Micklon also holds the second-longest hitting streak on the team this year, hitting in 11 straight games from 4/10 to 5/1 (18-43,.419). Return of the Mack Senior outfielder/infielder Mack Hite enters Tuesday having started in PC s last 119 games, the longest streak of any player on the Blue Hose roster. The stretch began on April 24, 2009, in a start against Coastal Carolina and the senior is one of four players to start every game so far this season. Hite s sacrifice fly against Liberty on April 17 marked his 33rd career sacrifice, the modern-era (since 1988) career record at PC. He enters Tuesday s game with 39 after setting the single-season record in 2009 and 2010, with 14 each year. Hite has also hit safely in the last nine games, the second-longest current streak on the team. Record Watch In addition to Mack Hite and Andrew Williams record-setting seasons, Brad Zebedis freshman campaign this year has him threatening several single-season records as well. His.416 average would be the second-best in the modern era and his slugging percentage (.687) would rank fourth as well. He stands just one hit shy of Bucky O Hara s fifth place mark of 83 in 1998 and 12 away from catching Roger Foltynowicz s modern-era record of 94 hits in 1998. Zebedis 21 doubles has tied him for the second-best season in that category and he needs just one more to tie the single-season record, set by Lance Howard in 2005. Zebedis also on pace to crack the top five in total bases. A Call to Arms PC s pitching staff has been a key component in the team s 21 wins. Among their Big South peers, three PC pitchers (Jordan Pace and Buck Mosteller) have started a league-high 13 games and Steven Richardson also ranks sixth in wins (six) in the conference. Two Blue Hose also have shown off their endurance, as Pace ranks fifth in innings pitched (82.0) and Bud Jeter, Mosteller and Pace all appear in the top 10 of the complete games category. Stevie Wonder Junior lefthander Steven Richardson has made a strong impression this year on the PC pitching staff. Richardson s 6-4 record gives him the team lead and the lefthander has dazzled against out-of-conference competition this year, with four wins have come against Tennessee, Wofford and Furman. Blue Hose vs. Conference Breakdown Conference W L Atlantic Coast 1 1 Atlantic Sun 0 1 Big South* 6 19 Colonial Athletic 2 1 MEAC 3 0 Mid-American 0 2 Patriot 3 0 SEC 1 1 Southern 5 6 Overall 21 31 *2/27 game against Gardner-Webb did not count in conference record At the Helm PC alumnus Elton Pollock is in his seventh year as Head Coach of the Blue Hose, entering this weekend with a 116-263 career record after taking the position of head coach in 2005. Pollock set a new career-high for wins in a season with Sunday s win over Winthrop, set when the Blue Hose won 19 games in 2006. Pollock played for PC from 1992 to 1995, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology with a minor in Computer Science. Once I Had a Win On Rocky Top The Blue Hose enjoyed a dominating win on the road against the Tennessee Volunteers on April 5, 10-6. Lefthander Steven Richardson earned his fourth win by allowing only two earned runs in eight innings of work, striking out five in the process. Tony Micklon also knocked in his eighth home run as PC racked up its 10th straight non-conference win and its first over the Volunteers. One-Hit Wonders The team s March 30 against Wofford featured a pitching gem from three PC pitchers in a 4-0 win. The combination of Steven Richardson (W, 6.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 K, 2 BB), Nick Ferguson (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB) and Chandler Knox (S, 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB) combined to allow only one hit from the Terriers. The offense, helped by a Tony Micklon solo home run and one RBI from four different members of the Blue Hose, put four runs on the board to earn the win.

Walk It Off PC earned its win over VMI in style, recovering from an 8-4 loss to in the first half of a Sunday doubleheader by scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth to earn a win in the series finale. Kenny Bryant s walkoff, two-rbi single on a full count capped a furious rally and helped the junior go 4-7 at the plate in the Sunday twinbill. Setting the Pace Lefthander Jordan Pace earned the Big South Conference The Crons Pitcher of the Week on February 22. Pace allowed just four hits and struck out nine batters in seven innings against Navy on February 21. He allowed just one earned run and held the Midshipmen scoreless for the first six innings of the game. Pace retired the first eight batters of the contest and had four 1-2-3 innings on the day. Home Sweet Home The PC nine finished its home slate with a 14-12 record at the Complex, the best home record in the Division I era. The Blue Hose stand two road wins away from tying its Division I-best in that category, set in 2009 with a 8-25 tally. Palmetto Power The Blue Hose have gone 4-8 against out-of-conference opponents from South Carolina this year. After dropping contests to USC Upstate (8-5) and Wofford (5-1), PC responded with wins over Furman (11-4), Clemson (4-3) and taking two straight from Wofford (6-4, 4-0). The team then fell to Furman (9-6), Clemson (7-2) and dropped three games in its series against The Citadel. PC s final out-ofconference state opponent comes against the College of Charleston.
