The annual SHS field day has finally arrived. This splendid event is a morale booster for big and little kids alike. Field day is the time when we come together as a school to work as one team, hand in hand. The excitement electrifies the air and can be felt all over the school. One sixth grader is quoted saying, "Field Day is my favorite time of the year. It is so fun!" Each team has a different color including blue, green, yellow, white, red, and orange. All grades have a different role in contributing to the welfare of the team. For example, the eight graders are the leaders of their families, or teams, and are responsible for leading the cheering, helping out the youngsters, and many other tasks. The different teams compete against each other team to win, and the color with the most triumphs win. However, cheering is also a huge part of the competition because spirit points are also given to the most supportive team. Cheering for the other team is also emphasized. Each family has a mascot/name. The members of each family dress up in their team color. Accessories are also worn on field day. Make sure they are comfortable clothes because the competition is fierce and fun! Activities include obstacle course, soccer, softball, kickball, volleyball, and many more. Field Day really emphasizes including everyone, leadership, and spirit! It is a long awaited time of the year and gives many people something really exciting to look forward to. Get ready for this active and joyous day, and don't forget to cheer for your family! Harry Potter Series Book Review By: Megan Faricy Picture of Harry Potter Series One of the most popular book series of all time is Harry Potter. Harry Potter is a series written by J. K. Rowling, a highly admired author for her fantastic detail and inspiring ideas. J. K. Rowling has a creative imagination that helped her write these seven books, and because of that, all over the school you ll see people lost in their books, reading about Harry Potter and his adventures at Hogwarts. So what exactly makes this series so popular? With J. K. Rowling s amazing descriptive-eye and storyline it s almost easy to pretend that you re with Harry wherever he goes. As he faces dangers beyond imagination, and balances it off with school, and magic, you ll be there alongside him. I would definitely suggest checking this series out. At the library, borrow it from a friend, or buy it as your own. You will have a great time reading it and love the plot and suspense of each and every book! VOLUME 1, ISSUE 4 SHS STUDENT NEWSPAPER PAGE 5 Playmakers Joey Capestany The newspaper thought it would be good if the students should help decide the next playmakers play. We will have a paper that will come on Thursday to suggest names. These shows have to have no bad names and they can t be very long. Your votes will help pick the new show so make it great. The director will pick what is new play. Music Money By: Kate Simmons I was in the play, The Music Man, and I loved it. I thought the best part was singing 76 Trombones and dancing with the cast. I thought everybody in the play were both good actors and good singers. The Mayor of River City was the funniest because of the costume and the mustache. My favorite actor, besides me, was well everybody!!!!
VOLUME 1, ISUE 4 Mother s Day Tea By Megan McReynolds SHS TIMES PAGE 6 On Tuesday, May 4 th, kindergarten students had a tea for their mommies. We made hats with our buddies and we gave the hats to the moms. When we gave it to the moms, we had to go and sing a song and then there was a break for food. When the break was over, we read our books. Mine was called Princesses by Megan McReynolds. Other kids books were called Star Wars, Seaside, Sunsets and Unicorns, and Friends. Kids wrote about Legos and electric toys. Jack, Emily, and Isabella with their moms. Picture taken by Mrs. DeGioia Daniel s book said that the principal was the best. Kids were split into cabins (by school), meal groups (at random), and exploration groups (at random). The days were spent hiking around camp, canoeing, rock climbing, and many other activities. Nights were spent either going on a night hike or sitting by a campfire while watching skits and singing songs. Sacred Heart Student Frances Hausmann said, My favorite part of Camp Hamilton was the campfire circle. It was really fun. Obviously the trip was a great success!
