T H O R O U G H B R E D R A C I N G STEWARDS REPORT MEETING HELD AT ASCOT ON WEDNESDAY, 28 JANUARY 2015 Meeting No: 145 Weather: Fine Track: Good (3) Penetrometer: 6.5 Rail: Out 15 Metres / Cutaway to 12 Metres in the Straight Stewards: H. Taylor, R.J. Mance, C.D. Brown (FL), D.J. Mead (6), M.L. Vickers (HO), Stewards Assistant L. Millington (Scales), Cadet G. Lawrence (Judging), T. Rendell (Form/Betting Analysis), G. Croll (BR) Veterinary Surgeons: Drs. M. Wildie, C. McMullen Medical Officer: Dr. P.B. Cummins Stewards conducted a number of stable inspections of trainer s with runners engaged at today s meeting as part of the Compliance Assurance raceday activities and no breaches of the rules were detected. RACE 1: WESTSPEED PLATE - 1000M ANOTHER MAORI BOY (Alex Lawrence) Slow into stride and crowded shortly after the start. When racing keenly bumped inwards and steadied passing the 700m. Steadied from heels passing the 500m. When moving into marginal room passing the 100m was crowded for room. MILITARY ROCK (Shaun O'Donnell) Held tight and steadied approaching the 600m. Carried inwards crowded and steadied passing the 500m. Rider reported that the gelding raced greenly throughout. VITAL FORCE (Jerry Noske) Slow into stride. Crowded bumped and steadied passing the 700m. A post race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be shin sore. Trainer Mr T. Andrews was advised that under LR.64(c) the gelding would not be permitted to start in a race for a period of six weeks. ONE OFF THE WOOD (William Pike) When questioned regarding leading today, rider advised that after being crowded at its last start the filly was unable to take up a forward position and today had commenced well and after being ridden positively in the early stages found itself in the lead, however he did not envisage the filly leading into today s event and believed it would take up a forward position with cover. VAIN LASS (Danny Miller) Proved difficult to load and raced wide for the majority of the event. Raced greenly throughout running. General: Jockeys Danny Miller (VAIN LASS) and S. O Donnell (MILITARY ROCK) appeared before Stewards with regard to MILITARY ROCK being steadied approaching the 600m and held tight and steadied passing the 500m. Jockey Danny Miller was subsequently cautioned and advised to ensure that he gives sufficient room to runners to his inside at all times. Stewards took into account that Jockey Miller s mount was starting in a race for its first occasion and had raced greenly throughout running.

ASCOT : 28.01.15 145/2 RACE 2: WESTSPEED HANDICAP - 1600M ILLUMINATED (William Pike) Raced ungenerously in the early stages and as a result steadied passing the 1450m and got its head in the air on a number of occasions. TESTA FORTE (Jordan Turner) Raced wide from the 800m. NANCI GEE (Jerry Noske) Lay inwards in the straight with the rider having to stop riding and straighten her mount on a number of occasions placing her at a disadvantage and when attempting to change the whip through to her left hand accidentally dropped it near the 50m. Trainer Mr A. Durrant s representative advised that in his opinion the filly was coming to the end of its preparation and would now be sent for a spell. TOUCH THE NET (Patrick Carbery) Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the 200m. KEEP 'EM ON (Misty Bazeley) Slow into stride. RACE 3: WESTSPEED STAYERS' BONUS HANDICAP - 2200M FRIARPAK (Paul Harvey) Commenced awkwardly. GEE PEE ESS (Peter Hall) Raced keenly in the early stages and steadied shortly after the winning post on the first occasion. ACHMED (William Pike) Taken wide to improve its position from the 1100m until obtaining the lead passing the 900m and compounded in the straight. A post race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. FROGS A LEAPING (Shelby Bowtell) Raced keenly getting its head in the air shortly after the start. Raced wide from the 1000m. Rider advised that the filly made a respiratory noise on return to the mounting enclosure. LADY CAIRNHILL (Peter Knuckey) Lay inwards in the straight. LONE BEAR (Alex Lawrence) Raced wide throughout. Yielded ground from the 600m despite the efforts of its rider riding it strongly in a hands and heels manner. Trainer Mr A. Oram was advised that due to the gelding s poor performance, he is to restrict its immediate racing to the provincial areas until it shows an improvement in its form. PRICKLY FEET (NZ) (Jason Brown) Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Lay outwards in the straight. RACE 5: 'TABTOUCH WITH CASH' HANDICAP - 1200M RED ORA (William Pike) - Commenced awkwardly and bumped. Rider advised that as a result of being slow into stride out of the barriers, the gelding had got further back in the field than anticipated as he was instructed to be on the pace and to lead if possible. AUGUST KNIGHT (Jerry Noske) - Commenced awkwardly and bumped, losing ground. STAR MAK (Mandy Richmond) Dipped on jumping. STEP RIGHT UP (Emma Stent) - Raced wide throughout.

ASCOT : 28.01.15 145/3 Race 5 Continued THE DANSKTER (Ben Paterson) Raced wide throughout. HIGH FIDELITY (Peter Knuckey) Lay outwards throughout running. RUBY'S IMAGE (Natasha Faithfull) Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Impeded for clear running from on straightening until angled outwards passing the 150m to obtain a clear passage. General: Apprentice Renee Forrest (CESC) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under ARR.137(a) for allowing her mount when ridden along to shift outwards when insufficiently clear of CLASSY CAT (T. Ikenushi) which was crowded and restrained at the 175m. Apprentice R. Forrest subsequently had her permit to ride in races suspended for a period of 14 days to commence from midnight 31 January 2015 and to expire at midnight 14 February 2015. Further, Jockey N. Faithfull (RUBY S IMAGE) was cautioned for allowing her mount to shift inwards near the 100m causing CLASSY CAT (T. Ikenushi) to be carried inwards and was advised that in similar circumstances she is only to shift ground when fully clear of runners or further action may be taken. RACE 7: PERTH RACING ON FACEBOOK & TWITTER HANDICAP - 1000M BLACK QUEEN (Jason Brown) Raced wide from the 600m. Had a tendency to lay inwards in the straight. ASCOT : 28.01.15 145/4 Race 8 Continued BLACK GRAPE (Paul Harvey) When approaching the 500m steadied from heels and then impeded for clear running for a short distance. PAGO MINX (Ellie Cockram) Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. DOUBLE KEY (Jake Casey) Raced keenly through the middle stages and when approaching the 500m shifted outwards and bumped with another runner. In view of the racing manner, Trainer Mr M. Santich was advised to engage the services of a senior rider for the gelding s future racing. General: Stewards inquired into the reason for POLYRIO (K. Witten) being bumped outwards and SEUL HOMME (Jerry Noske) being steadied outwards from heels near the 500m. It was established that DOUBLE KEY (J. Casey) when racing keenly, improved onto the heels of another runner and shifted outwards in an attempt to gain racing room and in doing so caused the above incident. Stewards were of the opinion that the racing manner of DOUBLE KEY had contributed to this incident and Trainer Mr M. Santich was advised to engage the services of a senior rider for DOUBLE KEY s future racing. GENERAL Routine specimens were taken from all winners. Pre-race blood samples were taken from: Race 2. TOUCH THE NET, KEEP EM ON Race 3. FRIARPAK, KANSAS, CRIMSON RULER WITHDRAWALS AFTER FINAL ACCEPTANCES Race 2. POETS PRINCE Nominated Ascot 31/1. HURRICANE HOUND Bruised heel. Apprentice Joseph Azzopardi (injured at trackwork). LATE REPORTS Ascot, Saturday 24 January 2015 - Race 2: Westspeed Handicap - 1200m KIM EXCEL Trainer Mr Malcolm Burnett advised that the filly recovered very well and attributed the disappointing performance to the filly racing tightly with another runner through the early stages and racing keenly and not settling throughout running and consequently it was now his intention to start the filly over lesser distances in the immediate future. Ascot, Saturday 24 January 2015 - Race 7: Tabtouch Mobile App Handicap - 1400m QUEEN TO AN ACE Trainer Mr V. Sigley advised that the mare recovered well and in his opinion may have been coming into season which detrimentally affected its performance and he will now consider veterinary treatment for the mare in this regard. H. TAYLOR Deputy Chief Steward Thoroughbreds HT:jdlh This is an interim report only with all races subject to further review prior to final release within two business days.
