RESULTS APRIL 2014 Well done to all our CGMA athletes and to those who achieved SBs, PBs and S.A. Records. A special congratulations to Liz Ruickbie who participated in the Ladies 65 69 5000m at the CGMA championships on 12 April and at the S.A. Championships, as well as in the 10000m. She broke the 21 year old record in the 5000m twice in 2 weeks in a magnificent time of 22.43,88 and then again at the SA Masters Championships in a time of 22:43,0 followed by another magnificent run the following morning in the 10000m in a new South African record time of 44:50.18 smashing the 10 year old record with a massive 8 secs. Liz, who won the W.60 Marathon event at the World Masters Championships in Lahti, Finland in 2009 in a time of 3:32 and has a personal best time of 3:28 when she was 62 and a pb of 1:38 in the half marathon, has entered to run the Berlin Marathon in September. We wish this talented athlete, who only started her competitive running career at a late age, everything of the best. BIATHLON STARS (Swim and Run) We would like to congratulate Hans Sliep, one of Central Gauteng Masters founder members, on his magnificent achievement of obtaining his Gauteng provincial biathlon colours for the 34 th time, as well as to Christie du Plooy, one of our oldest members, who also gained her Biathlon provincial colours. We are proud of our versatile athletes!

TRAINING GROUPS Besides the cross country leagues for those who wish to improve on their fitness during the winter season, most training groups will resume again during June/July, but please confirm with the contact people of each group. There is a Masters training group at UJ track every Tuesday and Thursday 5 6 pm and Saturday 08:30 10:30 (in season). At the moment there are about 10 athletes at every session. It is mainly sprinters at this stage, but they would like to expand to hurdles and middle distance. Athletes are also welcome to join the High jump training group that is there at the same time on a Saturday. Middle distance training group for ladies and men at UJ track, Westdene. (in season) Training group on the East Rand Boksburg Stadium, mainly for long distance, but middle distance track runners are also welcome. Marcel Viljoen I would love it if you referred runners to us. We will have five groups from January. We have sprinting at Redhilll, Dainfern and Fourways, all the others focus only on middle and long distance. I do masters myself and have one or two runners who do it as well. An athlete must be a paid up member for 2 consecutive calendar years. 2. Over 2 consecutive athletic seasons, an athlete must comply with the following: Must qualify at least 6 times in the medal standards for the same event or different events at any of the championships. Must have competed in at least one CGMA championship and in anyother two provincial championships. Must have competed in at least one South African championship. (The current review period for an athlete to be considered for 2014 CGA colours is from SA Championship 2012 until CGMA Championship 2014.) (standards available on request)
