OCTOBER 2009 NEWSLETTER AMA Charter # 2768 www.uterc.org www.uterc.com PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Let s start by summing up last month s activities. We had a good turnout at the club meeting; Doug Dorton gave a presentation on how we can make one-off replacement fiberglass parts, such as cowls and wheel pants. Jenny Greer showed us how to put a feminine touch on a slow stick and Pat Schouten showed off his Jenny (no pun intended) and the new Snap & Fly Foamies. October 2009 Pg. 1 of 7
The float Fly was a big success as always. For those of you who missed it, the weather was great, and the water was calm. There were a couple of mishaps but all and all everyone had a good time. Probably the only thing that could make it better would be to have more flyers. If you are like me, a floatplane is on my wish list so next year I am going to have one ready to fly. I guess all of you are wondering what the latest is on the Jordan Model Port. Myself and some other interested Utah flyers have met with Salt Lake City Parks Department. The City is willing to replace in kind what is currently at the Jordan Model Port. We have looked at several possible locations, but nothing is positive yet. Tentatively things will be business as usual at the Model Port until March 2010. At which time, Salt Lake City Parks will take over maintenance, issue new use passes and begin collecting fees at the Jordan Model Port. So with that in mind, I would not renew my State Park pass until new arrangements with the City are firm. Construction on the new Sports Complex is tentatively scheduled to begin September 2010. I will keep you up to date as thing progress. OTHER UP-COMING EVENTS Club meeting October 8 th @ 7pm. Nominations for next year s club Officers.
