East Burwood Junior Football Club Round 2 - Wrap Up 25 th April 2018 Presidents Report It was Anzac round this past weekend for the juniors and I know all of the boys who played on Sunday were proud to honour the Anzacs in the different ways around the grounds. The two U10 teams had a great day on Sunday playing in their lightning premiership, and I know the U9 kids and coaches are looking forward to heading to pinks reserve this Sunday. On the back of their 3 rd straight win at the seniors on Saturday night it was great to see so many of the junior families there cheering them on. This Friday night we have SUPER KICK & PIZZA night at the club at the conclusion of training for teams. Prizes to be won for Hole in One. Pizza slices will be on sale from 7pm @ $2 per slice, if there is anyone free to serve your help would be appreciated. This Saturday the senior club is hosting a ladies lunch upstairs Paella & Sangria while the teams take on Forest Hill out on the ground. Great to see all of the junior mums that have purchased tickets to this event. It s looking like a great day has been organised. Seats are still available see details below. Tickets will also be available for purchase this Friday night for the Clubs $5k reverse Draw held on the 5 th May. Tickets are $100 each and this includes admission for 2 adults. Under 9C East Burwood 37 Wantirna South White 9 The Under 9s played away this week and were provided with the opportunity and privilege to pay respect to the ANZACs as part of the ANZAC Day weekend event. Before the game we marked the occasion with a line up for the Last post and National Anthem, the boys were fantastic. The game itself was another great display from the boys. This week the boys were challenged with 3 objectives, 1. Get to the contest 2. Win the ball 3. Apply pressure when the opposition have the ball. The boys executed this game plan to perfection and as an outcome the results followed. The boys backed up pressure act after pressure act and forced the opposition to continually turn the ball over. With such strong numbers this year the boys are learning about rotations and it is a credit to them as to how they are supporting this process. After 2 rounds and some strong contributions from all players we are looking forward to having a crack at next weeks Lightning premiership. Goldie - 1 Even contribution from our 24 players. Our first home game, saw us face Kilsyth on a perfect Sunny Melbourne day. Our focus for the week was teamwork and mate-ship following the Anzac theme. As a coach, I could not be prouder of our 24 players: their willingness to work as a team, to Bump, Shepherd and support each other on the field, has been second to none. Working in numbers allowed the boys to move the ball into our forward line to create countless opportunities in front of goal. With a healthy lead at half time, we asked the boys to keep the competitive spirit up and keep the pressure on the ball handler. Yet again with the use of clean hands, and keeping their feet, we managed to continually get the ball out of the congested areas by working as a team. In the second half, on 2 separate occasions by 2 different boys, we had players who marked to ball on the boundary line in our forward pocket, instead of taking the low percentage shot, they were UNSELFISH and centred the ball to allow their teammates to kick a goal. Their name doesn t go on the score sheet, But WELL DONE to Bailey Dillon & Zac Smith. The Boys are really playing well as a team and should hold their heads up high. Well Done Boys. Petrowski We had another classic match against Heathmont today where the momentum of the game swung multiple times to provide an exciting but heart stopping finish for a 1 point win. The boys were tested in the first quarter and struggled to achieve good quality centre clearances and effective forward entries. Heathmont were also playing extra men in their backline and some of our players were a bit out of sorts where to position themselves. To the boys credit they increased their intensity and took more responsibility for their opposition players and started to adapt to the changing game and we hit the half time break even with scores level. Jaymie, Pat and Cal combined with inspiring efforts up forward and around the ground to help the team kick away in 3rd quarter to give us an 11 point lead and then hang on in the final quarter despite intense pressure from their opposition. It's worth congratulating Josh and Joe who managed to contribute an additional 2 vital goals each. Harry Howlett and Harrison Wunhym were very solid in defence and continually rebounded from numerous marks. The game gives us plenty of things to work on and we look forward to hitting the training track to further improve our skills and tactics.
