Digital Citizenship Video Winners Congratulations to National Junior Honor Society students Shelby Colvin, Angela Guan, Grace Lui, Danny Tang, and Austin Tran for winning 3 rd place in the Digital Citizenship Video contest. The video was shown throughout the district during Digital Citizenship Week from February 6-10. Band Solo & Ensemble Winners Every 7th and 8th grade MMJH performing band student participated in the Katy ISD Solo and Ensemble Contest at Cinco Ranch JH on February 4. This is when students perform either their solo and/or their ensemble for an adjudicator. Based off of a rubric the judge rates each performance either I, II, III, IV, or V (I being the highest possible rating of superior). Our band directors Mr. George Liverman and Ms. Rachel Luegering are pleased to announce that the McMeans Jr. High band students earned 190 Superior rating! This speaks a lot about their preparation and commitment to follow through with this part of their development. Congratulations!

Students may be eligible under the provisions of Section 504 even though they do not require services pursuant to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Parents who believe that they have a child who may qualify for special services or programs under Section 504 should contact the Campus 504 Coordinator at the home campus. In addition, parents who believe that they have a child who may qualify for special education services or programs under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) should contact the home campus office (MMJH s main # is 281-237-8000) for more information. Talk to Your Child About Cyberbullying Today, bullying has gone beyond the classroom to cyberspace. Cyberbullying can take many forms: Kids create fake social media accounts where they make fun of others. They send threatening text messages to studetns.they take videos and pictures in locker rooms and then post them on the internet. To protect your child: Talk to him about cyberbullying. Ask him to tell you if someone posts cruel or hurtful things about him or anyone else online. Tell him not to share account passwords with friends. Keep devices that can connect to the internet out of his bedroom. It s easier to monitor online activity in a central location in your home. If your child is bullied online, take these three steps: 1. Tell your child not to respond. 2. Keep records. Print out things posted about your child online. 3. Go to the authorities. Talk to school officials or the police and show them what you have printed out. Source: Middle School Parents still make the difference! March 2017, Vol. 20, No. 7

Page 10 Dear Bobcat Parents and Guardians, Makerspace Donations We are in the process of creating a library Makerspace here at MMJH. What is a Makerspace? A Makerspace is an area that allows for creativity and innovation to occur so that students can engage in learning experiences that allow them to make real life connections. Makerspaces provide students with a place to tinker and develop something that may not have been possible to create without a space with resources. We want this experience to be a fun opportunity to expand science, art, engineering, programming, and technology skills for each student. To achieve this goal, we are in need of several items to be donated for our Makerspace. If you are able, we would be appreciative of any donation that you are willing to provide. At this time, we are asking for donations for the following items: Legos (including the green bases) K-Nex Wooden Blocks Pipe Cleaners Elmer s Glue Washi Tape Popsicle Sticks Markers Buttons Yarn Crochet Hooks Duct Tape Masking Tape Felt and Fabric Play dough Gift Wrap Tissue Paper Modeling Clay Ribbon Scrapbook and Construction Paper Modge Podge Newspaper Toothpicks Foam Paint Brushes Scissors Stickers Mason Jars (new item) Glitter (new item) If you have any items that you are willing to donate, please either call or drop off the items in the donation boxes inside the front office and the library. We appreciate all that you do each day to support McMeans Junior High.
