Congratulations to several of our ORMS students who competed in the annual Math Counts competition in Frederick. We have 3 students moving on to the state level. Owen Sevier came in 27 th place Brady Egleston came in 8 th place And Lindsay Moravec came in 6 th place. Congratulations! Well done, Mr. Toomey and his crew!

At the Robotics competition this past weekend a team from ORMS will be heading to the states completion that will take place at UNBC on February 25th. The Super Circuits who include Gavin Davies, Shane Morrison, Jolie Feltz, and Joe Spitzer won for best robot design. Great!

ORMS is singing praises for our All County Orchestra students! Grace Johnson Chimwemwe Chinduyu Liana Marciante Ian Hingley Davanishi Mistry Sam Layton Madi Geidel Madeline Blattau Isabella Batarseh

Mrs. Novak s 7 th grade art classes have a beautiful collection of artwork on display at the Tevis Building at Carroll Hospital. Stop by to see it!

Our 20 th year here at ORMS and since we clearly have a lot of talented students here, please share your talent by designing a LOGO or writing JINGLE/RAP/ or Song about ORMS. Winning logo design will be used for all 20 th Anniversary events and advertisements. Winning music piece will be used to showcase our school on announcements, to advertise events and anyway we can include it! Other submitted designs will be used in decorations for our events. There will be gift card prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place!!

Logos should incorporate ORMS AND 20 TH ANNIVERSARY IN A CREATIVE, VISUAL WAY. Use school colors, design elements, and your imagination. It can be computer generated or hand-drawn. Music, whether it be a jingle, rap or song, should be about our awesome school! Focus on the 20 th anniversary, including school history or facts, our current mission statement and why ORMS is a great place to learn. Contest information forms are available in your Media Center.

A Picture Book Academy This is an opportunity for those of you who are interested in writing or illustrating a picture book. Picture books are designed for an adult to read to a young child. This class will last until sometime in March when we will travel to Carrolltowne Elementary to read our books to the some of the younger students there. Mrs. Cherry and Mrs. Bahorich will be holding classes during Flex time on Tuesdays starting Feb 7 th. Please sign up in the media center.

We are continuing to gather to-go breakfast items and collecting new socks to donate to local needy families. Please bring in pre packed, non perishable, breakfast items and socks to Mrs. Buss s room 301. From now to February 3 rd Thank you for your support!!

The Money from Shout Outs for the next month will be donated to Pennies for Patients Thank you for your support! And Now For Shouts Outs.

Have a great day! And remember to be kind to one another.

Next month - ORMS will be hosting a visit from Walt Michael, an amazing performer that has appeared at the White House, the Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and toured throughout Europe His music has been heard on television and he has even performed during the Closing Ceremonies of the 13th Olympic Winter Games! So that we will be prepared to listen to Walt s stories and hear his music, consider yourself challenged to read an age appropriate book about music or a musician. We have several in the media center.

After reading, please write your name and the title and author on the white board in the media center so that others may see what has been read. In return, you will be given a Shout-Out that you may redeem anytime throughout the year and, most importantly, you will be better informed about music when you meet Walt.

For all 8 th graders attending Liberty High School: The LHS Marching Band will be hosting free, open workshops for incoming freshman to try percussion/drum line and color guard/flags. The workshops begin in February, please see Mr. Chalk or Ms. Satterfield for more information.
