Letter to the Auditioner Dear Auditioner, Congratulations on your decision to audition for the fall production of Curtains. I m glad you ve chosen to become part of the theatre team. You have picked up the audition packet; 1. Sign up for an audition time (if you haven t already). Audition times run every 2 minutes beginning Tuesday September 6 th at 2:40. 2. In this packet you will find an audition form, you must fill this out and bring it with you to the audition. Be HONEST with your conflicts. Look at your calendar and be realistic. 3. Each cast member will be charged a $50.00 costume fee and will be provided a t-shirt as well as meals during tech week. 4. I have also included a contract that you should review with your parents as well as sign and bring it with you to the audition. I know auditioning might make you nervous so I ll try to answer some of your questions now. You need to prepare 16 bars of a song from a musical. What is 16 bars? 16 measures from a song. Don t worry about it being exactly 16 measures. It is really best to know the whole song and then pick the best 16 measures that show off your voice. You must bring sheet music for your audition. (NO ACAPELLA OR MINUS TRACKS). We will provide an accompanist, or you may provide your own. When you come for your audition time I will collect your audition form and contract and ask you a few questions about yourself to get to know you. After you perform your song you will be free to leave until your dance audition. You will be required to come back to the auditorium 6:00 pm for dance auditions. Dance Callbacks will be at 7:30pm. ALL AUDITIONERS MUST SING AND DANCE TO BE CONSIDERED. For dance auditions girls should wear a skirt and low heels and boys should bring a cowboy hat. (If you don t have one check with Alexa Allen and she can check one out to you, first come first serve). Our wonderful choreographer will teach a short dance combination to you. You will have some time to learn and rehearse the combination. We will then call you up in small groups and ask you to perform the combination at least twice. Please wait quietly and support your friends and classmates as they audition. We will excuse you in groups. Acting Callbacks will be Sept 7 th at 2:45 pm in the Copper Pit Vocal Callbacks will be Sept 8 th at 2:45 pm in the Choir Room. Acting/Vocal Callbacks are the place that we see how you respond to fellow cast mates, develop a character, stand you side by side to see if you fit with other characters. Etc. We also hear you sing songs from the show to see how your voices blend. If your name is not on the Callback list, do not despair it doesn t mean you are not in the cast. Now take a breath and relax!! See You Soon, Ms. Robbins
