CELEBRATING 17 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Wilmington, NC Chapter - American Singles Golf Association November 2009 Message from the President Wilmington had a great showing at Lake Lure again this year. Winners were Jan Van Der Vliet, George Weinfurter, Sharon Goell and Susan H. Ziegler won a substantial sum in the 50/50 drawing. Congratulations to all. Although wet - very wet - and sometimes gloomy, Sunday turned out to be a great day with some much needed sun. Three days of cart path only sent everyone home a bit tired, but we did "Have the Time of Our Life"!! We'll probably be back next year!! Since we have no current president, I will begin conducting our meetings beginning in November - a bit earlier than planned. I look forward to a great year as we progress into 2010 (can that be possible?) and hope you will assist in spreading the great news about the Wilmington Chapter of the ASGA. We have the potential to be one of the most active chapters in the US. This is YOUR chapter - we need everyone to make it even bigger and better. We'll soon have new courses to play next year and with the new year, great expectations of lower golf scores, more birdies and wishing for our first (or 5th) hole-in-one. When you see Pete Peterson, Becky Davis and Sharon Goell, please say "Thanks" for a great outing at Riegelwood! Thanks to all of you for putting your trust in me as your President for 2010. I'm looking forward to the ride so we'll see you a at our next meeting... November 12th at Sticky Fingers, 5044 Market St. Thanks to Diane Degennaro, who has enthusiastically offered to put together our Christmas Party this year. Please see the enclosed flier for details. ~Ann Howell, President Golf News CASTLE BAY Saturday, October 17 th was a beautiful day at Castle Bay. We only had 13 players which included 11 of our members and two guests. Many in our membership went to the mountains to the Lake Lure ASGA event which was also the weekend of the 17th. At Castle Bay, everyone played their own ball and each of our Chapter members received 2 nd place prize money of five dollars!! A fun time was had by all. Our November golf event is at Carolina National on November 15 th with s starting at 11 am. Please call or e-mail Fran to sign up for all events: 910 262-8980 or franyoung@earthlink.net. ~Fran Young, 2009 Golf Chairs FYI: In 2009, at all golf events where the course has bag boys to assist players, Fran will be collecting $1 from each WSGA player and guest. NO tips need to be given directly to the bagboys. They will give a lump-sum gratuity to the bagboys once all bags are on the carts, and we re ready to tee off. The course will be told our policy in advance. Prize money at our regular events consists of : First place $8, Second Place $5, and Third Place $3. Regarding cancellations: Please call or e-mail Fran Young 3-4 days in advance if you think or know that you will not be able to attend the event for any reason (including the weather)!!! Watch the forecast even if it s often wrong!!! Just a reminder, on the closest to the pin holes, the ball must be on the green to qualify to compete. A ball closer to the hole, but off the green does not beat a ball Upcoming Events Include: Myrtle Beach in November - Details in newsletter & at Singles- Golf.com/BattleAtTheBeach New Year's at ChampionsGate, Florida. The weather was good, the food was good, the golf was good for most of us, and the new friends we met (hopefully new members) were great. We donated a large trunkload of food and $344 in cash. We had 51 people attend including 9 guests, and 36 played golf. Please welcome our newest members, Robert Ladwig of Leland and Clare Parsons of Wilmington. Great to have you with us. Each member should try to recommend three (at least) single golfers for membership and provide those names. They don't have to be "friends" or even have their names used if they don't want. Just get to Sharon Goell with the contact info by email, phone or snailmail and she ll do the rest! Thanks! Her number is 910-617-4522 and her email is sgoell@ec.rr.com.
