WELCOME TO THE 2016/2017` SEASON An exciting new season of athletics is about to begin and the Committee would like you be aware of the following points. 1) You will receive a registration number, age patch and sponsorship patch for each registered athlete. Please read the instructions carefully before attaching the patches to the uniform. 2) Please read this book carefully as it contains all the information you need to keep up to date with the club s activities, important information on how each event is conducted and tips about stretching. 3) Please regularly review the club s website for the posting of weekly performances of the athletes (under Weekly Results ), photos and other important information relating to upcoming carnivals etc and the regular club newsletters. Put the web address (www.cherrybrookathletics.org.au) under your favourites list. It is important that you receive the weekly newsletters from the club via email as it is our main form of communication. If you are not receiving them please contact Elizabeth Jones on elizabeth.jones.aus@gmail.com for Little Athletes and Karin Webb on karinswebb@yahoo.com.au for Senior Athletes. 4) Please note rules relating to Age Groups and parent help on Friday nights. No Age Group will proceed to the first event, until the Age Manager and Assistant have signed on and have up to 4 parent helpers to assist them for the evening. Parents who are assisting an age group must remain with that age group for the whole night and assist with the age group. must be wearing the appropriate fluro bibs. Yellow Bibs for age group helpers and Orange bibs for Officials and Timekeepers. Parents generally will not be allowed on the field, unless they are officiating or timekeeping in an official capacity. Also, note that each Age Group will be rostered to help in a specific area each week Equipment Set Up, Canteen & BBQ, Timing Gates Helpers or Timing Gates Pack up. Without these rostered duties the Friday night competitions cannot proceed. Each age group is responsible for packing up the equipment of their last event. 5) Remember that a parent or guardian is expected to be in attendance each week for all Little Athletes. The club is not a child minding service for Friday nights. Athletes found not to have a parent or guardian on the field will be asked to sit in the club house until a parent or guardian arrives. 6) Please get involved and support the Age Managers (who are all volunteers) and the club generally. If you do, you will have a great time and so will your children. 7) The club is also on the lookout for event officials and coaches, especially for the younger children. Please contact Valmé Kruger on 0402 126 060 for more details regarding coaching assistance. 8) Remember that it can get very cold on some nights, especially early in the season. Make sure both athletes and parents bring plenty of warm clothing. You have been warned. 9) Some nights will be devoted to teaching athletes the skills of each event and ensuring that parents and Age Managers are fully informed on how each event runs. These will be great nights and you and your child s attendance will help ensure that both athletes and parents have a great season. We look forward to seeing you all this season. - 1 -

REGISTRATION CHECKLIST Before your child can compete for the first time each season, please check that you have completed the following for each registered LAs Athlete. 1) Completed a registration form either online or hard copy. 2) Paid the full registration amount 3) Shown proof of age - if new, transferring or not been registered for the last 2 seasons. 4) Have full club uniform available to purchase through the club or online 5) Collected an age patch, registration number and Jetstar patch. 6) Attached the above patches correctly to the uniform. Note that the current season registration number must be attached each year for your child to be eligible to compete on Friday nights. 7) Completed a NSW Member Protection form (one for each assisting adult) 8) Completed a Medical form. 9) Complete a Volunteer form. VOLUNTEER FORM parents/guardians must complete this form and select how you will assist the club throughout the season. Parents/ Guardians must agree to have their child/ren accompanied by a caregiver each time they attend Little Athletics, and must agree to assist with a duty or with their age group throughout the season. The Parent Roster is available in this Handbook. Little Athletics is run on 100% Volunteers - Committee Members, Officials, Age Managers and Track and Field Helpers are all parents volunteering their time for our Little Athletes. Please make sure you do your part to make their athletics run smoothly. If a Little Athlete turns up without an accompanying adult/guardian they will not be allowed to compete and will remain in the clubhouse until a parent/guardian returns. MEDICAL FORM Please ensure you complete a medical form with information for each of your participating athletes max 3 per form. This information is used to advise the age managers and medical officers e.g. St John s Ambulance of athletes with specific conditions and needs. If you have an athlete with a specific medical condition e.g. Epilepsy, Asthma, Diabetes, Severe ergies(requiring epipen) etc., it would be helpful at the beginning of the season if you could identify your child to their age manager and inform the St John s Ambulance officers of any specific treatment which may be necessary in the event of an emergency. Children are required to have their own epipen or inhaler with them if required. NSW MEMBER PROTECTION FORM It is a Government requirement that any adult volunteering with children completes one of these forms for each place of volunteering i.e. if you have completed a form at your child s school or soccer club you are still required to complete one at Athletics. This form must be completed by any parent or caregiver who takes the field in a voluntary role. Extra copies are kept in the canteen so that visiting family and friends who wish to assist with a child s group can quickly complete one prior to taking the field. Adults who have not completed a form for whatever reason are asked to spectate from either the hill or from behind the fence. This rule applies to all spectators. PERSONAL INFORMATION Please make sure your current contact details are kept up to date with the club. The club will email you regularly throughout the season, provided you have ticked this option when registering, to keep you informed of what week s program we are running, of Championship nominations and events etc. Families who do not receive an email from the club by the first week of competition are asked to check their registration details. This can be done by going into the Join up/register area on the Little Athletics NSW website and logging in using the athlete s username & password. Once you have logged in, click the Update My Details and check your details have been entered correctly. Please also check that you have selected to the mailing list request which is towards the bottom of your member details. If you do not know the athlete s Username or Password please contact our Little Athletics Assistant Registrar Elizabeth Jones (elizabeth.jones.aus@gmail.com) who can then email you the details. - 3 -

FRIDAY NIGHT COMPETITION Competition Nights are held at Greenway Oval No2 on Shepherds Drive, on most Friday nights throughout the season (see calendar) and are open to all registered little athletes and senior athletes. On arrival please assist with the set-up of the track and field and then assemble on the concrete area outside the amenities block for some quick messages. Please find your child s age manager and sign in your child. Friday night competitions commence promptly at 5.45 pm with warm-up. Following the warm up, athletes assemble with their age groups and proceed to their first event once they have their age managers and four helpers. The first event on the week s program commences promptly at 6.00 pm and generally the program will finish by 8.30 pm officials and helpers must be signed on at their duties by the commencement of events at 6.00 pm. age groups with a rostered duty (see parent roster) must be present to do their roster at 5.15-5.30 pm at the beginning of the night. It can become very cold at Oval, especially during September, October and November. It is therefore important to ensure that both athletes and parents bring adequate warm clothing. Warm fleecy club tops are available for purchase through our onsite uniform shop and athletes may run in these tops on club nights. We also recommend that the athletes have drink bottles with them each night, especially in the summer months. Bottled water is available from our canteen. A parent and/or a nominated guardian must be in attendance for each athlete each Friday night and all parents/guardians are expected to undertake their roles as general field officials. The only exceptions will be parents with young children or special exemptions agreed to at registration. Please ensure you are familiar with, and assist with your age groups set up and pack away duties each week, and ensure you assist with your age groups rostered duty. NIGHTLY PROGRAM The club runs three different competition programs to provide athletes with the opportunity to tackle all events open to their age group. Program 1 will be used on the first competition night, Program 2 the second night and Program 3 the third, and so on. If a night is washed out, the program is postponed until the following Friday night. The program to be used on a given night is advertised on the club website (www.cherrybrookathletics.org.au) and a copy of the program will be posted on the wall near the canteen. Copies of the three competition programs are located at the back of this handbook. FRIDAY NIGHT COMPETITION RESULTS Each week when all results have been uploaded there will be an announcement on the Athletics website Results Page (generally by midday Saturday). Note: Field results entered into ipads or tablet devices on the field upload when saved. You can then access the results by logging into the ResultsHQ website www.resultshq.com.au using your registered email address and password. If you do not know your password or username, click on the ResultsHQ screen prompts. DUAL REGISTERED ATHLETES A dual athlete is a person registered in the U12-U17 age group who competes in Little Athletics competitions (through LANSW) and Senior Athletics Competitions (through ANSW). Dual registered athletes compete in their little athletics age groups on Friday nights club competition. For competitions in senior events held outside regular Centre meeting nights, please consult the Athletics NSW Summer Athletics Handbook, which can be accessed from the Athletics NSW website www.nswathletics.org.au Details are also sent out in newsletters from the Club to registered seniors. - 4 -

WET WEATHER In the event of wet weather on any particularly meeting night, please phone Hornsby Council s wet weather number listed below after 3.00 pm. If the Council has closed the grounds, we will not be competing that night. Wet weather updates are also available on the club s website. In all other circumstances where weather is a factor a decision on whether the night will proceed will be made at 5.45pm. The wet weather number is: 9847-6764 IMPORTANT REMINDERS For Parents for Athletics Competition Nights. Little Athletes who compete on a Friday night must have a parent or nominated guardian in attendance at the oval. Each Age Group must have an Age Manager and an Assistant Age Manager signed on and 4 helpers before the group will be able to proceed to their first event. If any Age group has not completed its rostered set up duties, or provided the required number of helpers for the rostered duty it will not proceed to the first event until the duties are filled. In line with new Working With Children regulations, all parents/guardians assisting with an event (including working in the canteen) must sign on at arrival at that station. Sign-in books will be available at each location. Please ensure you assemble with one of your child s age groups at the start of the evening so that you can be allocated duties for the evening as either an age helper or to assist with your age group s allocated duty area for the evening. Note Under 13-15s will be combined. This means 24 parents are needed for the age groups alone. In addition there are a minimum of 4 time keepers, and 4 starters to run the events. It will be the helpers responsibility to do measuring, raking etc. at the events. Additionally the parent roster requires 2-3 canteen helpers and 2 barbeque helpers and up to 9 timing gates helpers each week. As you can see it is a big undertaking to run an efficient program. If everyone chips in and helps, the program will run well, start and finish on time and everyone will have an enjoyable and rewarding evening. Please note that the club will be checking if parents are not attending and are simply dropping children off and picking them up. Athletes who are found to be without a parent or guardian will be asked to sit out from competition and wait to be collected from the club room. The club knows it may be difficult for legitimate reasons for a parent to always be there. you have to do is ensure your child has a nominated guardian for the night and the child and the guardian know who they are and the age manager is informed. Please remember the club is not a baby-sitting service. During the Competition Session, unless you are assisting the Age Manager with the age group or undertaking a duty you will not be allowed on the field for safety reasons. spectators are asked to watch from either behind the fence or from the bank. No pets are allowed at our Friday night competitions or at training/coaching nights. We hope everyone has a great season and remember, on Friday nights till Christmas it may be cold so bring plenty of warm clothing. AGE MANAGERS What is an age manager and what is their role in Little Athletics at? An age manager is someone who has volunteered to look after and manage a particular age group during the athletics season and in doing so, helps their athletes understand, compete and most importantly, enjoy their athletics in both track and field events. - 5 -

Your age manager requires 4 helpers to assist each Friday night. Parents should offer their assistance to one of their children s age managers and if not required as a helper for the evening should assist with the age group s rostered duty. Please make an effort to make yourself known to your child s age manager and show them your appreciation. Athletics would like to thank all the Age Managers and Assistants for volunteering their time in this role this season. Special Notes SNR B & SNR G are 13 s, 14 s, 15 s and 17 parents. "Equipment Out" requires the assistance of ALL parents from the age groups on duty, and must commence between 5.15 and 5.30 pm in order to have the equipment ready for the start of the competition. "Canteen and BBQ" requires the assistance of 2 or 3 parents per rostered age group. This could be broken into 'shifts' of perhaps 1 hour each. Timing Gate Helpers requires 2-3 people per set of gates and we have 3 sets of gates. This can be divided into shifts of 1 hour by the age manager if required. "Timing Gates Pack up" requires the assistance of ALL parents from the age groups on duty, and will require those parents to remain until the completion of ALL events (not just the events of the Age Groups on duty or their own child) to ensure that all equipment is packed away before we vacate the oval at approximately 8.15-8.30. Some sets of gates finish before others and these can be packed away progressively. Age Managers may wish to consider a 'roster within a roster' to ensure that all responsibilities are met and make sure that everyone in the age group does their fair share. parents must complete the "Sign on Sheet" at the entrance to the field to be covered by insurance. Parents who are not assisting with the running of the competition and who do not sign on are not permitted on the field, but must remain on the outside of the oval fencing. The last age group to conduct an event each night (other than timing gates) MUST pack up that event and return all equipment to the storage area UNIFORMS Little Athletics has a Centre uniform (Red, Grey, and White). Our senior club uniform has the same shirt/singlet as the juniors but the LAs club shorts are red and Seniors shorts are black. Little Athletics athletes must wear full club uniform with their registration number and age patch each week. Centre uniform must also be worn at representative meetings outside the Centre. Plain black bike pants /compression tights (no longer than knee length) may also be worn under the club shorts. Footwear is compulsory for all events. Spikes may be worn from the U10 age group upwards for high jump, long jump and for track events which are run entirely in an individual lane. Safety is paramount and Centre rules insist that spiked shoes be carried to the event, put on at the start, and removed at the finish of that event. Note: RULE CHANGE for the coming season. From 2015, in order to bring NSW in line with National standards, spikes may only be worn by athletes from U11 age group and upwards. During normal competition nights and at Championships, Waffle style shoes will be acceptable for all athletes to wear. NO SPIKES FOR U6, U7, U8, U9 & U10 s. The Club uniform is available for purchase on-line or at the club on Friday competition nights. Full uniform details are available on the club s website Registration Numbers & Age Patch: Each athlete is issued with a registration number, age group patch and sponsor patch. The Registration number must be fixed to the front of the shirt/singlet and must be fixed high enough, so that it does not get tucked in when the shirt is tucked in. The red line around the registration number must not be cut off. The current season registration number must be attached for your child to be eligible to compete. The Age Group Patch must be attached on the left hand side of the shirt/singlet as shown below. Girls wearing crop tops may attach the age patch to the front, left hand side of their shorts or briefs. The sponsor patch should be attached on the opposite side to the age group patch. UNDER 17 AGE GROUP The U17 age group caters for athletes who turn 15 or 16 before 30 th September of that season. On Friday nights these athletes compete as seniors, there will be no U17 Little Athletics Records, Coloured Patch Awards or Annual awards. Under 17 athletes will only compete as Little Athletics athletes in LAs Championships events e.g. Zone State, State Relays, State Multi, State Cross Country and Gala Days athletics only accepts U17 age group registrations for athletes who are also registered with our Seniors Club. Registration in the U17 age group will be a Dual Registration and be treated as Senior Athletes. CANTEEN A well-stocked canteen is available for athletes and parents on competition nights. There is a barbeque every competition evening offering a sausage sandwich and weekly special. The major source of profit for the club comes from the canteen so we encourage you to use our canteen as your family dinner option on Friday nights. If you feel that assisting in the athletics program is not for you, then please consider helping us on a regular basis with the canteen or the barbeque. If you are prepared to assist on a regular basis in running the canteen, please contact a committee member. RECORDING CLUB RECORDS Club records can only be broken if they are verified by a qualified official. If a record is not verified it will not be allowed. At field events, if an official is not present please locate one and ask them to verify the measurement. The official must sign off on the recording sheet for the result to stand. For a result to be valid and a new record to stand, the head timekeeper must sign off on the recording sheet. Club Little Athletics records can only be broken on club competition nights. Performances at Gala Days, Championship events or when visiting other clubs are not accepted. Please note for club competition nights: 1) For laned track events using electronic timing the gate operator present during the running of the event must sign that the gates were working, that the athlete was the athlete in that lane and not someone else, and that they were running in their own age group/gender. For all outer track events using a hand held timer, multi-timer or computer operated timer, a qualified official must be present during the running of the event, two timekeepers must time the record run and the slower of the two times will be recorded. Athletes must run in their own age group and gender to record a record performance. Records cannot be accepted where an athlete specifically runs up an age group or e.g. a girl against the boys, for the specific purpose of bettering their time. 5) When there are mixed gender/age groups the age managers need to advise timers to double time the first girl and the first boy, or the first of each age group respectively. 6) Records will not be allowed to be broken outside normal competition rules. Records can only be accepted if obtained on the first run or the best of 3 throws or jumps. i.e. the athlete cannot repeat the event multiple times on the same evening for the specific purpose of breaking the record. The Club also has a set of Little Athletics Club Championship records which can be broken at major Little Athletics Championship events, including Zone, Region, State and Nationals. Records are available on the Club s website and in last season s Annual Report (Red Book). The main criteria is improving technique, especially with junior athletes. This Centre has a policy of ensuring that athletes in the Little Athletics Age Groups are not over trained. The guidelines set down what is an acceptable standard of conduct and behaviour and reflect the principles upon which Little Athletics is based. Acceptance of, and compliance with these guidelines will ensure that Little Athletes will develop good sporting behaviours and be an enjoyable sporting experience, encouraging them to remain involved in sport or otherwise be active throughout their lives. We ask that everyone take the time to read the guidelines and make a personal commitment to always behave in accordance. Athletes 1) Compete according to the rules. 2) Work equally hard for yourself and/or your Centre. 3) Always address officials in a polite manner. 4) Be a good sport. Acknowledge all good results, whether they are made by your Centre or friends or an athlete from another Centre. 5) Only cheer good performances, not when other competitors make an error or don t perform well. 6) Treat other competitors with respect. 7) Do not act smart or cocky. 8) Treat all athletes as you like to be treated. Do not bully or take unfair advantage of another competitor. 9) Cooperate with your coach, Centre mates and other competitors. Without them there would be no competition. 10) Participate for your own enjoyment and benefit, not just to please parents and coaches. 11) Remember that all that is ever requested of you is to Be Your Best! Parents, Relatives & Spectators 1) Remember that young people are involved in Little Athletics for their enjoyment, not yours. 2) Encourage children to participate, do not force them. 3) Focus on the child's efforts and performance rather than winning or losing. 4) Encourage athletes to always participate according to the rules. 5) Applaud good performances and efforts from all competitors. 6) Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from Little Athletics. Condemn the use of violence in any form, whether it is by spectators, coaches, officials or athletes. 7) Recognise the value and importance of being a volunteer. 8) Respect officials' decisions and teach young people to do likewise. Remember, officials freely give their time and effort for your child s involvement and enjoyment. 9) Show appreciation for volunteer coaches, officials and administrators. Officials 1) Officiate according to the rules and where subjective judgment is necessary decide on the basis of what is fair to all athletes. Be impartial. 2) Be consistent, objective and courteous when making decisions. 3) Avoid any situation which may be perceived as a conflict of interest. 4) Accept responsibility for all actions taken. If you make a mistake, admit it. 5) Condemn unsporting behaviour and promote respect for all competitors. 6) Emphasise the spirit of the competition rather than the errors. Do not over officiate. 7) Ensure that your behaviour and comments are always positive and supportive. 8) Keep up to date with the latest trends in officiating and the principles of growth and development of young people. 9) Place the safety and welfare of the athletes above all else. Coaches 1) Remember that young people participate for fun and enjoyment and winning is only part of their motivation. 2) Be reasonable in your demands on the young athlete s time, energy and enthusiasm. 3) Operate within the rules and spirit of Little Athletics and teach your athletes to do the same. 4) Ensure that the time athletes spend with you is a positive experience. young people are deserving of equal attention and opportunities. 5) Avoid over attention to the talented athletes; the just average need and deserve equal time. 6) Ensure that equipment and facilities meet relevant safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of all athletes. 7) Display control, respect and professionalism to all involved with Little Athletics. Encourage athletes to do the same. 8) Explain to athletes and their parents what you are aiming to achieve and why. 9) Show concern and caution toward sick and injured athletes. Follow medical advice when determining whether an injured athlete is ready to recommence training and competition. 10) Obtain suitable qualifications and keep up to date with the latest coaching practices and the principles of growth and development of young people. Administrators 1) Ensure all young people have equal opportunities for participation. 2) Ensure that rules and equipment are modified to suit the age, ability and maturity level of athletes and that equipment and facilities are safe. 3) Provide quality supervision and instruction. 4) Be fair, considerate and honest in all dealings. 5) Resolve conflicts fairly and promptly through established procedures. 6) Remember that young people participate for their enjoyment and benefit. Do not overemphasise awards. 7) Support the efforts of coaches and officials and help improve the standards of coaching and officiating. 8) Involve, where appropriate, members in planning, leadership, evaluation and decision making related to the actual activity. 9) Ensure that everyone involved in Little Athletics emphasises fair play and not winning at all costs. 10) Develop Codes of Conduct and Behavioural Guidelines and encourage everyone to follow them. 11) Make it clear that abusing young people in any way is unacceptable and will result in reporting and appropriate disciplinary action. LITTLE ATHLETICS REPRESENTATIVE SEASON Note: RULE CHANGE for the coming season. NO SPIKES FOR U6, U7, U8, U9 & U10 s STATE RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS The Little Athletics State relays is a relays event open to all Little Athletics Centres in New South Wales, and is the first and largest State event on the LAs competition Calendar. Both track and field relays are contested on the day, and all registered club members from U8 to U17 are eligible to nominate for a place in the LA s Team. Selection is based on performance, however athletes in U8-U11 age groups may only compete in either track or field events. The four best athletes are selected per relay event, so there is opportunity for athletes to be selected and participate. - 13 -

The State relays are traditionally held on the fourth weekend in November and nomination forms will be available on the club s website and in the club room from mid-september. The date and location of this competition can be found in the season calendar towards the front of this handbook. Full details of the State Relays including the events contested for each age group will be available on the club s website early in the season. For parents interested in training or managing relay teams for the State relays, there is a relay handbook available to assist you. For further information regarding this or any other Championships event, please contact one of the club s Championships Officers (please see committee listing for contact details). ZONE CHAMPIONSHIPS Zone Championships are conducted in each of the 24 Zones throughout the State. Little Athletics competes in the North Metropolitan Zone, made up of 5 centres: -, Northern Suburbs, North Rocks/Carlingford, Parramatta and Ryde Little Athletics Centres. athletes in the U7 to U17 age groups are eligible to compete at zone, but only athletes who complete a nomination form will be considered for a place on the Zone team. Our zone conducts its zone carnival in mid-december. Please see the LA s competition calendar for dates and locations. U7-U12 athletes may compete in a maximum of 4 events and only five athletes per event are selected to represent the club, selection in the team is based on performance and participation. Every effort is made to allow as many athletes as possible in each age to compete at zone, and all athletes are encouraged to enter a nomination for selection. Athletes in the U13-U17 age groups have open entry (no selection process), and are restricted to a maximum of 6 events. A Junior and Senior relay team are also selected for both boys and girls. The junior relays are made up of one athlete from U9, 10, 11 and 12 s. The senior relays are made up of one athlete from U13, 14, 15 and 17 s. Selection of the zone representative team (including relays) is made by the championships officer in conjunction with the committee and age managers. Nomination forms for selection in the zone representative team will be available to print off from the club s website in early/mid October. Nomination for a place in the zone team implies that the athlete will be available for both regional and state if so selected. Team selections will be advertised on the website. NOTE: No athlete (no matter how good) will be automatically entered into the zone until a signed nomination form has been received. The first three place getters in U7 receive medals but do not progress past zone. The first 6 placegetters in U8-U17 and the next best 4 qualifiers in the region, who competed in a final, qualify to represent the club at Regional. REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS Little Athletics is made up of eight Regions, of which belongs to Region Five (Sydney North). There are 10 centres and 2 zones in Region 5. 8 Region Championships are all held by the third full weekend in February each year. Athletes who qualify from zone, in the age groups U8 through to U17 compete at Region. U8 athletes do not progress past the Region Championships. Athletes from U9-U17 who place in the top 2 at Region or whose performances at Region are one of the next 8 best among all regions qualify to compete at the Little Athletics State Championships. STATE TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS This event is held on the third full weekend in March each year at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre. Athletes in the age groups U9 through to U17 who qualify at Region compete at this event. Competition at this level is very strong and the club would recommend that athletes competing at this level should be in regular training to obtain their best results. In appreciation of athletes who represent the club at this high level of competition, a special gift is awarded to all State representative athletes at the club s annual presentation. - 14 -

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS A team of 4 x U15 athletes (2 boys and 2 girls) and 22 x U13 athletes (usually 11 boys and 11 girls) are selected to compete in the Australian Little Athletics Championships, which is usually held in April on the weekend nearest to Anzac Day each year. 1) The U15 athletes are selected at the State Multi Event Championships, and compete at a National Multi Event. 2) The U13 Team is selected at the State Track and Field Championships. 3) The U13 + U15 team announcement is made at or soon after the conclusion of the State Championship. NB: Some funding is available to athletes who reach this level of competition. STATE MULTI-EVENT CHAMPIONSHIPS State Multi-Event Championships are held on the first full weekend in March each year at a Country venue. The program is run over two days. athletes in the U7 through to U17 are eligible to compete at this event, there is no selection criterion. Athletes MUST participate in ALL of the events on offer for their particular age group. Performances for all events are allocated points, based on the LAANSW Multi-Event point score system. The points are then added together to determine final results. The events offered per age group are as follows although subject to change: - U7 Boys & Girls 50m; 100m; pack start; long jump; shot put; discus U8 Boys & Girls 70m; 200m; pack start; long jump; shot put; discus U9-U12 Boys & Girls 200m; 60m Hurdles; 800m; long jump; shot put; discus U13 Boys & Girls 200m; 80m hurdles; 800m; long jump; shot put; discus; high jump U14 Girls 200m; 80 hurdles; 800m; long jump; shot put; discus; high jump U14 Boys 200m; 90m hurdles; 800m; long jump; shot put; discus; high jump U15 Girls 100m; 90m hurdles; 800m; long jump; shot put; discus; high jump U15 Boys 100m; 100m hurdles; 800m; long jump; shot put; discus; high jump U17 Girls 100m; 100m hurdles; 800m; long jump; shot put; discus; high jump, javelin U17 Boys 100m; 110m hurdles; 800m; long jump; shot put; discus; high jump, javelin At the completion of this carnival, 2 boys and 2 girls from the U15 age group are selected to compete in the Australian Little Athletics Championships. Selection is based on performances in the events which make up the ALAC Multi-Event competition (100m; hurdles; 800m; long jump; discus). STATE CROSS-COUNTRY & ROAD WALK CHAMPIONSHIPS The State Cross-Country & Road Walks are usually held on the first Sunday in July each year. The event is held alternately in Metro and Country NSW. Athletes in the U7 through to U17 are eligible to enter the State Cross-Country (there is no selection criteria). Athletes in the U9 through to U17 are eligible to enter the State Road Walks. Entries are taken online only, and the club appreciates athletes informing the Championships Officer of their intent to compete so that the club can put together teams. TRANS TASMAN This event originated in 1977 and involves an annual track and field competition between Auckland and New South Wales, for the Under 11 and U12 age groups. As from 2015, selection onto the team will be via nomination and based on performance from 1 January to 21 October. Go to the LANSW website for more information. A team of up to 128 boys and girls are selected to represent LAANSW in the Trans-Tasman Challenge, which is held alternate years in Sydney and Auckland. The Challenge program includes, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, High Jump,, and. (Walks, hurdles and triple jump are not offered). The Trans-Tasman tour to New Zealand usually takes place over 10 days, where children get the opportunity to experience the culture and customs of the New Zealand people, as well as take part in several athletic competitions, culminating in the Trans-Tasman Challenge. When the event is conducted in Sydney, the Sydney athletes play host to the visiting Auckland athletes for a day. - 15 -

LITTLE ATHLETICS AWARDS COLOURED PATCH ACHIEVMENT AWARDS The club has a coloured patch award program, under which athletes are eligible to receive different coloured patches once they have met specific performance standards across a number of events. The athlete (or parent) must complete and submit a performance sheet to receive each coloured patch which can then be sewn onto their uniform. Performances can be achieved at any LAs event including Gala Days and championship events (where the result can be verified). There is a gradual progression from one set of standards to the next and levels commence at Yellow progressing through Green, Red and Blue up to Gold. The Gold level standards reflect performances at the highest level, very close to State times or distances, and are hard to achieve. The patches are available to athletes in the U7 U15 age groups. The Coloured Patch achievement performance sheet for each age group is available on either the club s website or through age managers. When your child has achieved a particular level please place the performance sheet with details of the level achieved in the designated box in the club room. After verification, the appropriate level award patch will be placed in the Age Manager s File to be presented to your child. LAs POINTS SYSTEM AND ANNUAL AWARDS At the end of each season the club has an annual presentation (see season calendar for details). At this event all attending LAs athletes are presented with a medal of participation. For all LAs (U7 U15) awards are presented for most consistent athletes and most improved athlete. MOST CONSISTENT TRACK ATHLETE AND MOST CONSISTENT FIELD ATHLETE These awards are based on the week by week results of each athlete in the age group. To achieve the highest level, it is necessary to attend as many weeks as possible, go in as many events as are available and finish in the top ten in each event that is attempted. The points are computer generated and awarded as follows: 1 st = 10 points 2 nd = 9 points 3 rd = 8 points 4 th = 7 points 5 th = 6 points 6 th = 5 points 7 th = 4 points 8 th = 3 points 9 th = 2 points 10 th = 1 point MOST IMPROVED ATHLETE As with the Most Consistent Athlete, this award is also dependant on the number of times an athlete attends and the number of events participated in. Points are awarded if an athlete improves their best time or distance in each attempted event. Points for this award are calculated as follows: Better than last personal best = 10 Points Equal to last personal best = 5 Points To be eligible for any of the above awards an athlete should have attended at least 52% of the available weeks in the season, or have a legitimate reason for attending less eg injury. Consideration may also be given to dual registered athletes U12+ who may also be competing in the Saturday Seniors program. NB: If an athlete gains first place in all three awards, they will be given the Most Consistent Track & Field Athlete award, as that is seen as the most prestigious award. The first runner up for the Most Improved Award will then become the Most Improved trophy recipient. If an athlete gains first place in either the Most Consistent Track or Most Consistent Field awards and first in the Most Improved award, they will be given the Most Consistent Track or Most Consistent Field Athlete award, as that is seen as the most prestigious award. The first runner up for the Most Improved Award will then become the Most Improved trophy recipient. Actual points given as quoted above can be changed from season to season. It should be noted that the committee will work out which week the calculation for the above awards will commence. T.J. BEALE PERPETUAL TROPHY The T.J. Beale Perpetual Trophy is the most prestigious club award for our junior division. It is given to a girl and boy in the under 12 age group who best epitomize the philosophy of Little Athletics. The Criteria for this Award consists of attendance of 70%, a positive attitude and a willingness to embrace good sportsmanship. JETS LAs DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FOR U12 U17 ATHLETES The Little Athletics NSW Junior Encouragement & Talent Squad (JETS) program aims to recognise, reward and foster emerging talent in the sport. The program gives athletes in the Under 12 17 age groups the opportunity to develop their skills, knowledge and performances to a higher level in an enjoyable social environment. The program consists of numerous activities, primarily consisting of coaching clinics, aimed at motivating, encouraging and supporting squad members. The sessions are conducted by some of New South Wales leading Little Athletics coaches and are held at some of the State s best athletics facilities. Any athletes who are registered with Little Athletics NSW in the Under 12-17 age groups for 2014-2015 Little Athletics season who achieve the qualifying standards and agree to the conditions of membership may apply to become a member of the squad. SENIOR COMPETITIONS AVAILABLE FOR DUAL REGISTERED ATHLETES Dual athletes are athletes who are registered as both members of our Little Athletics club and our Seniors Club. Once athletes in the U12 U15 age group are registered with LAs they are also eligible to register (for a small additional fee) with our Seniors Club. This gives athletes access to Senior competition which includes both Saturday and some mid-week competitions at various venues in the greater Sydney area. SENIOR SUMMER SEASON The Athletics NSW Summer season begins in October and runs through to the beginning of April and offers competitions for all standards and abilities. Dual registered athletes are eligible to compete in any of the following events, however some events have entry standards to qualify for entry. For more details on the senior competition Calendar please consult Athletics NSW Summer Athletics Handbook, which can be accessed from the Athletics NSW website www.nswathletics.org.au. senior competitions attract a small entry fee. Entry is generally available online on the Athletics NSW website or at the meet venue. CLUB PREMIERSHIP Commencing in mid-october, athletes compete for their club in one of five (5) age divisions; U17 includes all dual athletes) U20, Open and 35+ & 50+. This competition features a number of rounds of competitions, with approximately 4 rounds of these being at Sydney Olympic Park and the other four rounds held at various Athletics venues in Sydney. Points are awarded in each event, up to and including 20 th place. The Premiership is ideal for dual athletes and a good introduction to senior athletics. The competition aims to be an enjoyable experience for athletes of all capabilities and is a way for all athletes to get involved in an organised competition and score points for their club. The meets include Photo Finish, electronic timing, wind readings and live results and results can be used to achieve rankings, records and qualifiers. CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS The NSW Club Championships is a two day event on a weekend held in January split into 3 point scoring divisions Junior (U/17 & U/20), Open and Masters (35+ & 50+). There are no restrictions on how many athletes can represent a club per event however only two athletes from each club are eligible to score points per event. The two point scoring athletes will be determined on the basis of performance at the Club Championships. The event is considered the Grand Final for Club based competition and all athletes are encouraged to compete in what is a friendly team environment. ALL-COMERS COMPETITION comers competitions are open to all Athletics NSW registered athletes. There is no points scored and the competition is graded allowing athletes of similar ability and standard to compete against one another. Competitions are predominantly conducted after Christmas and are ideal preparation as lead up events for State & National Championships. Results can be used to achieve rankings, records and qualifiers. PERMIT MEETS Athletics NSW Permit Meets are competitions conducted by affiliated clubs, which have been ratified by Athletics NSW under the ANSW permit structure. These meets are conducted under IAAF rules, and allow - 17 -

athletes to qualify for National Championships and be eligible for rankings. Athletes cannot however, break records or post International Qualifiers. Permit meets by nature are more relaxed than ANSW events, being a perfect event for dual athletes wanting good competition but feel they are not ready for Athletics NSW comers competitions at SOPAC. Many of the competitions will have a specific focus, for instance, a throws only meet for the NSW Throwers Club, or a verticals jumps meet at Campbelltown. NSW STATE RELAYS The State Relays are traditionally the biggest event on the Athletics NSW calendar with teams competing in age groups from U14 through to Masters. The relays are conducted in track events including sprint, middle distance and long distance relays and in field events both jumps and throws. The club enters many teams for this championship event and we encourage all our dual athletes to submit a nomination form to the club to be considered in a team. NSW SECONDARY ALL SCHOOLS TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS Entry is open to all NSW Senior School students, there are no qualifying standards for this event. Online entry is available at www.nswathletics.org.au from early September. Competition takes place in mid- October; athletes must compete at this event to qualify for the National Schools in December. NSW STATE YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS These State Youth Championships are held in February and open to all athletes U14 U20 who are registered with Athletics NSW including all dual athletes (there is no pathway or qualifier to enter this event). Entries for this event are available on line on the NSW website. The competition attracts the most outstanding athletes in the state and often draws a large number of interstate and international competitors. Athletes can qualify from this event for the National Youth Championships in March AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS The National Youth Championships are held in March and entry is only through qualification. Athletes can qualify by either placing at the NSW Schools or the NSW Youth Championships or by attaining the National qualifying standards which are available on the Athletics Australia website and published in the weekly senior s newsletter SENIOR AWARDS The senior club presents four types of awards. DUAL ATHLETE PARTICIPATION AWARD Awarded to the male and female dual athlete who has represented the club in the most number of senior meets throughout the season. MOST CONSISTENT ATHLETE AWARD Awarded to an athlete in each age group and gender (U18, U20, Open and Masters). This award is calculated using a point score system based on the times and athlete has competed for the club, either at club level or representative (athletes must have competed on at least five occasions during the season).
