NEWS from the executive vice President Watch upcoming Newsletters for information about next season. The Ohio Valley Ski Council trips for 2020 have been determined, and will be to Red Mountain, British Columbia in late January, and to Crested Butte, Colorado in late February. WESTERN SKI TRIPS LSSC TRIP REPORT Aspen/Snowmass Trip Leader Terry Carrico January 26 February 2 Left to Right: Terry Carrico, Joe Brown, Glenn Marcum, Lisle Dalton, Howard Glauert, Randy Napier, Bud Blair, Robin Jones, Annette Riehle, Chris Chrisman, Barbara Anderson, Tammy Hamilton, Bob Durborow, Wendy Anderson, David

Martin, Tom O Donnell, Dave Bensema, John Henning, Catherine Monzingo, Eddie Siliezar, Carol Hill. Lower Left: Jill Johnson, Beth O Donnell. Twenty-three club members gathered in Snowmass for a wonderful week of skiing and fun. Some of us stayed at Tamarack condos while others stayed at Top of Village condos. Both condo complexes were conveniently located to the slopes of Snowmass. While some elected to ski exclusively at Snowmass, others skied at Aspen Mountain (Ajax), Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk. The OVSC treated us to a Welcome Reception on Sunday evening. Everyone enjoyed the food, drinks, fun and fellowship of skiers/boarders from the LSSC as well as the other participating OVSC clubs. An OVSC sponsored Après Ski event was held Monday afternoon at Base Camp. The OVSC also sponsored a picnic on the slopes on Tuesday. It was a perfect place and day. The OVSC sponsored a Farewell Event on Thursday afternoon at the Limelight Hotel. We once again had the chance to share our good times with other OVSC participating clubs. Everyone seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves. While we didn t have any significant new snow, we enjoyed great views, weather and ski conditions as evidenced by the smile on Eddie Fancy Pants Siliezar s face (below). Actually, he wore that smile all week. He is the life of the party actually he brings the party with him.

Some visited the Winter X Games that were held at Buttermilk Mountain during the first two days of our visit. Many of our group found the time to visit and shop in downtown Aspen. I would like to give a shout out to the six new LSSC members who joined us on the trip. They are Dave Bensema, Joe Brown, John Henning, Jill Johnson, Glenn Marcum, and Eddie Siliezar. Several us gathered for a hearty breakfast before heading home.

Thanks to all for making this a GREAT TRIP!!! Let s do it again next year. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA/NV February 23 March 2 Trip Leaders Keith Hubbard and Elena Todd Lake Tahoe Trip Underway International trip VAL DI FASSA, ITALY March 8 17 (Ski and Tour) Trip Leader Janet Jones Registration has closed. Final preparations are being made. AMALFI COAST, ITALY March 17 24 (Tour Only) Registration has closed. Final preparations are being made. Local SKI TRIPs Trip REPORT - SNOWSHOE, WV January 18-21 Trip Leader Tom O Donnell The first of two trips to Snowshoe Mountain resort in West Virginia was taken by a group of 10 members on Martin Luther King weekend. Our weekend included some extreme weather with some snow, sleet and

freezing rain along the way. The wind on MLK day nearly blew us off the mountain along with the quick change to sub-zero temps but all had a great time and came back from the weekend with fond memories. TRIP REPORT SNOWSHOE, WV March 10-13 Trip Leader Tom O Donnell The second trip to Snowshoe Mountain resort in West Virginia was taken by a group of 18 members the past week of February 10-13th. The weather was a little less extreme but the conditions were good enough for everyone to get out and enjoy some snow. Several photos were taken to remember the occasion by.

one day SKI TRIPs Perfect North Slopes TRIP REPORT January 13 Trip Leader Tom O Donnell A group of 18 skiers braved a snowy morning to ski at Lexington Ski Club's day at Perfect North Slope Sunday January 13th. Our bravery was rewarded with some of the best conditions at the hill. While we may have had a few people in line all agree that the wait was worth it.

Membership UPCOMING ELECTIONS It s almost time for elections to determine who will be our officers for the 2019-20 year!! We are always interested in new ideas and input for our Board and we are seeking nominations for all positions. As I mentioned at our February meeting, if you are interested in serving on the Board or know someone who would be a great Board member, I invite you to submit your name or another member s name to the nominating committee. The committee will present the slate of candidates to the membership, before the April meeting, at which time members in good standing can vote for next year s Board members. Please forward any nominations to me by March 15 if you wish to have them considered for election. Being a Board member does involve work, including a monthly Board meeting on the second Wednesday of each month. We review and decide on trips, activities, finances, and the direction we want for our club. Hope to hear from you!! Janet Graham Jones President-Elect for 2019-20 jgjones@uky.edu or 859.420.5016
