Spend The Summer In Barcelona and Take Your Dance Training to Another Level! Barcelona Internacional Dance Summer Intensive (BIDSI) is a pre- professional dance program at the Barcelona Dance Center for three to five weeks for aspiring dancers ages 14-25 that would like to pursue either a professional dance career with a company, higher education opportunities in dance or success in other dance related fields. Daily Classes Classical Ballet American Modern Dance Weekly Classes Contemporary Dance Ballet & Modern Repertory Broadway Musical Theater Flamenco Workshops Career Development Spanish Language Classes Cultural Excursions At the end of the program participants will perform in front of an audience. All dance classes are taught by master teaching artists from prestigious dance companies, Broadway shows, and other productions from the United States and throughout Europe. The program is modeled after a pre- professional and professional dance company This cultural infusion is critical in the artistic development of a young artist and build awareness how the performance art of dance plays in the role of social justice and social change. As important as the artistic and educational objectives, this program also plays a social responsibility. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION Ø All classes begin June 27 th Ø Students have the option to chose between three weeks June 27 th July 18 th or five Weeks June 27 th August 1 st. Weekly schedule consist of a total of 18-20 dance classes per week. Ø Classes are Monday- Saturday 1.5hrs each. Everyday there is Ballet and Modern Dance and every other day there is Broadway Musical Theater, Repertory, Contemporary Dance, and Flamenco. Ø Afternoon and evening rehearsals and Spanish classes follow everyday. Ø Saturdays consists of two technique classes and an excursion or workshop Dance Classes Technique classes are important to increase flexibility, strength, endurance, musicality, and understanding proper training. Students actively participate in daily dance classes. Define joints and muscles functions in the relationship of movement of the body. Learn terminology, develop decision making of a dancer, and learn to become an audience member. Performance Performance is an important part of the development of a young dancer. Performing in front of an audience gives the students the opportunity to learn how to prepare for a show. At the conclusion of the three and five weeks there is a performance in front of a live audience. Faculty may hold auditions for their own choreography workshops that will conclude with a performance. Lectures & Workshops Lectures and workshops consist of career tools, dance history, nutrition, etc. Students will have the chance to have Q & A sessions with Master teachers. Guest Artists in different art forms give workshops and lectures discussions in the importance of art and its influence on development of society. The Business of Dance & The Importance of Social Media Health & Nutrition The Dancer s Body- Preventive Care Cultural Excursions Activities to explore the Spanish Catalan culture with trips to architectural masterpieces, museums, festivals, and performances; enrichment activities outside of the studio are important in implementing the educational development of an artist to provoke thought and imagination. Understand the influences of culture, traditions, religions, and people have on the performance art. Study artists who contribute to the internationally cultural development Knowing how and using arts materials and resources to create work. Spanish Classes The Spanish classes are interdependent to the dance lessons and curriculum. The classes are daily and taught totally in Spanish, as that s the best way to learn: total immersion. This course is divided into classes of 10 hours each week with duration of three to five weeks. Students will study vocabulary, expression, speaking and grammar by exploring dance pieces, costume design, and Spanish literature. On the first day students will take a level test in order to be placed into the correct level to facilitate the best learning environment possible. Fridays, they will practice everything they ve learned throughout the week in a practical, casual, out- of- classroom conversation session

3 Submission APPLICATIONS & SCHOLARSHIPS Submissions are accepted until April 20 th ON GOING!! The intensive is open to ages 14-25 years. Applications received after April 20 th will be sent out in May regarding status including the waiting list. Upon acceptance a non- refundable 25 (EUROS) registration fee + 650 (EUROS) deposit is required to hold your spot. Note: The registration fees and deposit are non- refundable. International Video Application International students currently living outside of the Barcelona area are invited to submit a video link via email, YouTube, Vimeo etc. The video should be approximately 3-5 minutes in length of a ballet or contemporary variation that shows your best. Ladies please wear leotard, tights, or unitard; Men wear white t- shirt, black tights or black dance shorts. Complete the online application form and include a link to your video and submit to the email listed on the application. info@bidsi2015.com or info@bcndancecenter.com Video should specify your full name, choreographer, and variation title if applicable. Once you submit the form you will see a confirmation screen. Applicants are encouraged to submit their video early for best consideration. Note: If you are unable to provide a link to an online video sample, please contact info@bidsi2015.com or info@bcndancecenter.com for alternative submission instructions. Application results will be sent via email to the applicant email address provided on the application form. If you do not receive an email containing your audition results by April 15 th please send an email with the applicant s name and email address to info@bidsi2015.com Scholarships Scholarships are awarded case by case and are determined at the time of application submission. There are no separate applications for summer course scholarships. They may include one or more of the following: class registration, accommodation, food, and/or transportation. Barcelona Dance Center offers the possibility of being selected during the summer course to join the pre- professional program in the Fall.

4 ACCOMMODATIONS, MEALS, & TUITION Housing Shared room occupancy at located residential dormitories near Barcelona Dance Center in the Les Corts district situated in one of the most central and safest areas of Barcelona. Just five a few minutes from the city center. Breakfast is included 10 % VAT taxes are included. Students would have to provide for their other meals. *Space is limited. If dormitories are not available we will help find alternative housing. Airfares Airfares are not included in the cost, however we are working with airlines for a discount code for participants for students traveling from the U.S. Most major airlines fly into the Barcelona El Prat International Airport (BCN) from all over the world. 7 Barcelona Dance Center is located in the heart of Barcelona Les Corts district. The studio evolved as a result of a friendship between the dancer entrepreneur, and producer Georgina Rigola of Barcelona and Cuban dancer, teacher and choreographer Beatriz Torres. The strong connection between authenticity, innovation, freshness, perseverance and their teaching experiences has made this dream come true. BDC is committed to provide students of all ages, levels and backgrounds that have a desire to dance, with a world- class education built on a foundation of classical ballet. Georgina Rigola, Founder, Coordinator, & Director of BIDSI Originally from Barcelona, began her artistic career after studying in the Institut de Teatre in Barcelona. She went to New York City to study and dance at the American Ballet Theater where she met master teacher Hector Zaraspe with whom she worked and began a friendship that lasts today. Georgina has worked with master teachers, such as, Rosella Hithower, Bogomil Sliwiski, Clara Kimitto, David Howard, Milton Myers, Carmen Roche and Carmina Ocaña among others. She has been part of the ballet company at the Gran Teatro del Liceu of Barcelona and worked with Victor Ullate in the Nacional Compañía de España and other independent companies. Besides performing, Georgina is a choreographer, costume designer, and Entrepreneur. She created the trademark Ginadan, provides dancewear and costumes to La Nacional Compañía de Danza de España (National Dance Company of Spain) and other dance companies and productions. She s won the Tortola Valencia award of the Generalitat de Cataluña for her choreography for her neoclassical dance company Estabec Ballet. In 1994, Georgina created Contraseña Produccions with the first unique production of the Far West de Port Aventura showcase. In 2005, she created the SIID Project an international summer dance course that continues today in Borredá, Barcelona. In 2008, she created the Certaman Internacional de Danza Ciudad de Barcelona, which is an international competition that gives scholarships to students at prestigious schools all over the world. In 2010, the Certamen was awarded the European Athletic Championships for participating in the inauguration. She also created Sinergy Dance Project for graduated dance students to perform in the showcase Jheane with the lead Lola Greco, music of Salvador Niebla and with dancers of Spanish and classic company of Spain. And, in 2014, she founded the Barcelona Dance Center and the pre- professional company BCN PROJECT CITY BALLET which tours national in Spain and this year will begin to tour internationally to Italy, Ireland, and the United States. Beatriz Torres, School Director of Barcelona Dance Center Dancer, Teacher, & Choreographer from Cuba trained at the Cuban Ballet School, graduated from the National Arts School of Habana Cuba (ENA) and obtained the Gold Title for Dancer and Ballet instructor and Historical & Character Dances in 1997. Fascinated for the pedagogy world in dance, she started her task at the Provincial Ballet School in Havana City. In 1999, she graduated with a Gold Diploma in Performance Art of Dance and the title Specialist in Teaching Classical Ballet from the Superior Arts Institute (ISA) in Cuba. Beatriz has devoted much of her career to the pedagogic research of the technical and methodological assessment of teacher development, choreography, and the scientific exploration on topics of applied kinesiology and orthopedic teachings of classical dance. Her thesis "Joint Biomechanics of the Lower Limb Muscle of the Classical Dancer" is a guide and official study in the department of dance performances at Superior Arts Institute (ISA) in Havana. Throughout her dance and teaching career, Beatriz has worked thirteen years at the Havana City Provincial Ballet School as a ballet character and repertoire teacher. She has been advised by experienced teachers of the Cuban Ballet School such as the doctors in Dance Arts Ramona de Saá, Silvia María Rodríguez and Adria Velázquez. Furthermore, she has received master classes from dancers and teachers such as Mikael Baryshnikov, Asari Plisevski, Prima Ballerina Aurora Bosh and the Cuban Maestro Fernando Alonso. In 2007, she moved to Barcelona and continues her career promoting the Cuban method of teaching ballet in Spain. She is Assistant Teacher of the David Campos Classical Ballet Company, carrying out the preparation of students for international dance competitions and as a ballet instructor and choreographer and in other schools of Barcelona. She teaches at Intensive Summer Stages in Borredá, Catalonia organized by the company Contraseña Produccions that is directed by Georgina Rigola. She is a member of the jury of the Labat International Competition, city of Alassio, Italy directed by maestro and choreographer Gino Labate, ballet instructor and councilor at the Certamen Internacional de Danza Ciutat de Barcelona, Ballet and character dancer instructor at the XI Edition of and member of the jury at Un Popolo Che Danza under the Labat Loano Dance Festival celebrated in Loano, Italy.

8 Entrepreneur, dancer, actress, and teacher Nya Bowman of New York City created NYC STAR HOSPITALITIES an educational vessel that provides professional services to help people access and manage New York City by providing destination and event concierge services, NYC tours, and relocation services in New York City and Barcelona. It has collaborated and provided services for other dance organizations such as Kaatsbaan International Dance Center (NY), Cheer Up World (Barcelona), and Nu Dance Theater (NYC). Nya Bowman, Founder, Coordinator & Associate Director of BIDSI A native New Yorker from Lower East Side, who lives in both New York City and Barcelona, is a Dancer, Teacher, Actress, NYC Tour Guide, and Entrepreneur. She studied at the Alvin Ailey School and graduated from Rutgers University with a BFA in Dance. Her professional dance career began in New York City with small companies before she decided to pursue her dream to dance with the Martha Graham Dance Company. In 2001, she went to study fulltime at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance received a full scholarship and an invitation from Artistic Directors Therese Capucilli and Christine Dakin to join the Martha Graham Dance Company in their comeback production Indisputably Martha Graham at New York City Center in the chorus of Steps in the Streets. She continued as a dancer with The Martha Graham Ensemble (Graham 2) touring nationally, but with limited advancements for her there she left to explore more options. Her later stage credits includes dancer at The Washington National Opera, The New York City Metropolitan Opera, onetime apprenticeship program with Urban Bush Women, and appeared in a few commercials, television series, and short films. One of her short film collaborations titled, Born, premiered at the 2006 African American Women in Cinema Film Festival in New York City. In 2012, Nya was invited by Artistic Director Janet Eilber to perform Martha Graham s legendary solo roles: Lamentation, and an excerpt from Spectre from the piece Chronicle, in addition The Leader in Steps in the Streets, in the company s Italy tour production Cercando Picasso with Antonio Albertazzi. It was a huge honor to perform these legendary roles. Throughout this time Nya was teaching Graham, Contemporary Dance (Graham Based), Movement for Actors, and Dance Improvisations and Coaching at dance institutions, competitions, and festivals internationally. She was Adjunct Professor at Long Island University, on the faculty at the Harlem School of the Arts and The Martha Graham School where she was one the Director of the Teens@Graham Young Artist Program that continues today. She has helped coordinate other dance festivals and dance events in both New York City and Barcelona. In addition, Nya gave tours of New York City on top of the double decker buses after classes, rehearsals, and auditions. To her it was the perfect opportunity to learn more about NYC, its tourism industry, and work on her public speaking. She could continue to educate and meet people from all over the world. Holds a license for New York Sightseeing along with a certificate in New York City Tourism. She has helped start- up small NYC tour companies and is a partner of the walking tour company Outside In Tours in New York City. In 2009, she created her own company NYC STAR HOSPITALITIES a destination & concierge company that helps people plan their trips and events in NYC and now Barcelona. Venita McLemore, Event Consultant, Program Manager & Summer Administrator Dancer, Choreographer, Teacher, Event Planner and Entrepreneur, originally from Columbia, South Carolina, Venita earned one year towards her MFA in Dance from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She received a BA in Biology and a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from Columbia College. Venita has performed with Eboni Dance Theatre, Harambee, and Columbia City Ballet. In NYC, she has danced in the annual AIDS Awareness charity show "Broadway Bares" 2005/2006, "Musing Hughes" with The Classical Theatre of Harlem, "The Rockae" with Prospect Theatre Company, and resident choreographer with Sweet and Tart Productions "Lucky Stiff" and "Elegies for Angels, Punks, and Raging Queens" an Off- Broadway workshop associated with Actors Equity Union. She has dance in Regional theater performances of: Grease, Hair, West Side Story, & The Music Man.
