The Gnats won the opening game 4-3, while the Tourists picked up the win, 4-1, in the second game which started at 10:10 pm. The Gnats (7-13/46-44) won the opening game in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the eighth inning. Centerfielder Patrick Biondi began the inning by reaching on an error, then stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. Shortstop Luis Guillorme drove Biondi home with the winning run with a ground ball single through the right side of a drawn-in infield for a 4-3 win. The Tourists (13-7/45-45) used four relievers to combine to hold the Gnats to one hit in a 4-1 win in game two. The Gnats scored their only run in the first when second baseman Jonathan Johnson walked and came around on third baseman Eudor Garcia's sacrifice fly. Asheville evened the game at 1-1 in the third and took a 2-1 lead against starter Michael Gibbons in the fourth. In his second start, with the Gnats, Gibbons allowed two runs on six hits in his six innings, but fell to 0-2 with the loss. Asheville added two runs after midnight against reliever Dawrin Frias to complete the night and the morning's scoring. SAND GNATS STARTER: RHP Corey Oswalt will make his team-leading 16th start of the year. OZ is coming off his second longest outing of the season (7 innings) at Lexington. The San Diegan allowed just one run on six hits and struck out four in his previous start at Greenville. Oswalt is 3-0 in his last four starts with 26.2 IP, 22 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 HR, 7 BB, and 15 K. WALK THIS WAY: SS Luis Guillorme sealed the Gnats game one victory with a walkoff RBI-single to right. Asheville utilized an exaggerated outfield shift towards left field against Guillorme throughout the series. The native Venezuelan was 2-for-9 in the series and did not register an official at-bat in game two of the doubleheader. LUPO AND THE LONG BALL: Left fielder Vicente Lupo sent a solo-shot to deep left field in the fifth inning of game one. Lupo s homer tied the game and sent the game into extras. The native of Caracas, Venezuela now has 7 homers on the season and 6 since June 2 nd. GNATS VS. DOGS: The Sand Gnats and RiverDogs have faced off 12 times this season with the R Dogs leading the season series 7-4. The Sand Gnats are batting.258 against Charleston this season.
