Read Across the Bluff Successfully Blends Technology with Teaching Reading-FCCLA had another successful year when they staged Read Across the Bluff for the primary grades last week Chapter members wore themed costumes and welcomed students into classrooms that had been transformed into a jungle, a pirate s ship, techno world, a fairytale, and sleepytime land. Each of those classrooms is equipped with an overhead projector and an Elmo, which is a device that allows you to place a book (or any other object) on its display area and it will be projected onto the screen or onto the classroom wall. It works with the projector to accomplish this task. The chapter members made use of this technology so that the entire classroom was able to see the book and all the words that were being read and could follow along. I think technology should be introduced to kids at the earliest age possible because to be good leaders in the future, you have to know about the stuff around you. The world uses more and more technology, and you will need it to be successful, says Jackson Dailey, junior member and successful computer whiz himself. Those members who were part of the transformations were Stephanie Hogue, Deseray Greer, Sarah Williams, and McKenna Duncan in the Jungle; Josh Cannon, Maycee Potts, Ashton Sharp, and Lyndsey Calhoun in a Fairytale; Ester Marquez, Casey Gore, Kaci Powers, Landon Dorner, and Cheyenne Bryant in the Pirate Ship; Jackson Dailey, Dustin Lawson, Ryan Watts, and Shelby Williams in Techno World; and Amanda Fowler, Bruce Marrero, Megan Self, and Katelyn McDonald in Sleepytime Land. FCCLA would also like to thank Landon Overly, Jaccob Wood, Dylan di Wilkins, and Juan Villalon for their help. Page 4
