Official Newsletter the Moorebank Fishing Club Inc. For more information see www.moorebankfishingclub.org.au Volume 8 Issue 4. May 2012 From the Office Winter is certainly upon us and this has been very evident by the low numbers of members participating in the last comp weekend. We all must be getting old! Our June meeting will have a guest speaker from the Fisheries Department joining us. It is hoped that we will have a good roll up even though it follows the long weekend. See you at the meeting. Dates for the Diary June Meeting: 12 th June Guest Speaker from Fisheries June Comp: 23 rd & 24 th June Charter Boat: No charter boat this month. Fish of the Month Trevally FISHO FUNNY A little boy was waiting for his mother to come out of the grocery Store. As he waited, he was approached by a man who asked, "Son, can You tell me where the Post Office is?" The little boy replied, "Sure! Just go straight down this street a coupla blocks and turn to your right." The man thanked the boy kindly and said, "I'm the new pastor in town. I'd like for you to come to church on Sunday. I'll show you how to get To Heaven." The little boy replied with a chuckle. "Awww, bullshit... You don't even know the way to the Post Office." Club Polo Shirts and Jackets Orders are being taken, have you placed your order yet?

June Club Meeting At our June meeting, which falls on the Tuesday after the long weekend, we will have a Fisheries Officer in attendance to talk to us and provide some material in respect to fishing in general. At our last meeting members were asked to provide some questions that they would like answered on the nite. Please give your suggestions to Vic prior to the meeting. As you are aware how hard it is to get speakers, your support on the 12 th of June would be greatly appreciated. Charter Boat 2012. The Gossip, the facts and the bullsh1# Happy birthday to the June babies: Grant, Justin, Devo and Popeye A 'jiffy' is a unit of time for 1/100th of a second. Another useless fact: Coca-Cola would be green if colouring weren t added to it. Claim the Date 11 August 2012 Our mid year night out has been locked in for 11 August, so mark your diaries now. Venue: Major Oak Theatre Restaurant at St Marys Cost: $60 ph. This includes Dinner, Show, Beer, Wine & Soft drinks. The club will be providing a bus to and from the venue. Departure times etc will be advised closer to the event. Booking are now open so see the committee. As there are limited numbers this will be a members & partners only night. Be quick to put your name and money down.

The President writes; The weather was not so good last competition weekend which resulted in only 3 members weighing in, but good to see a good roll up at the weigh in. Next meeting we have the Fisheries Officers coming so PLEASE make an effort to attend. It is the Tuesday after the June Long Weekend. We try hard to get guest speakers, so we would like you to try hard too attend the meetings. Hope you have told your partners about the night out at Major Oaks in August. We now have a Laptop and a Printer/Copier/Scanner at Vic's place. These facilities with Internet access, are available for members. Don't forget to keep your eyes open for give-aways for the kids party. As mentioned previously we are looking for expression of interest in buying T-Shirts and club Jackets. Next meeting will be close off date. If you get a chance, call into the pub on Thursday's around 5:30pm and get involved in our raffles. Sydney artificial reef is attracting fish Monitoring of the State s first offshore artificial reef has revealed it is attracting both fish and anglers. Underwater vision of the reef taken by NSW Department of Primary Industries researchers shows a diverse range of fish species are calling the reef home including yellowtail kingfish, silver trevally, snapper, bream, leather jacket, flathead and even the occasional mako shark. The steel artificial reef unit, which stands 12 metres high and weighs approximately 42 tonnes, was lowered into the ocean at a water depth of 38 metres in October 2011. It is located approximately 1.2 kilometres off The Gap at Vaucluse and 1.9 kilometres off South Head and is the first and largest Australian designed artificial reef structure constructed in Australia and is the first of three planned for NSW fishers over the next five years. The reef will now be monitored by NSW DPI researchers for three years using diver surveys and advanced underwater video technology to assess the impacts and effectiveness of the reef.
