The series will get underway at 8:12 p.m. Friday Saturday s series finale is set for 7:00 p.m. at Mariucci Arena. BSU defeated then-no. 2 North Dakota, 5-1, in its 2014-15 season opener before dropping a 2-1 series-finale in its last action Oct. 10-11. The Golden Gophers hold a 16-1-1 advantage in the all-time series and a 10-1-0 mark when hosting the Beavers at Marriucci Arena. The Beavers seek their first victory over Minnesota since a Nov. 15, 2009, 6-2 win at Mariuccia Arena a streak streak stretching 10 games (0-9-1). Cory Ward leads all BSU players into the series versus Minnesota. In six career games versus the Gophers, Ward has four goals. Matt Prapavessis also has four points (2g-2a) in eight games versus Minnesota. Since the reorganization of college hockey, BSU is 0-2-0 versus teams hailing form the B1G conference. BSU s only two other meetings came Oct. 18-19 of last season when BSU hosted the Golden Gophers. Tom Serratore, who is in his 14th season serving as head coach at BSU, is 212-208-56 (.504). Serratore opened the 2014-15 campaign with a roster featuring seven players without a single game of collegiate hockey experience, however, he returned his top for scorers form a year ago in Cory Ward (18g-11a), Markus Gerbrandt (15g-10a), Matt Prapavessis (5g-17a) and Brendan Harms (7g-14a). Freshmen Gerry, Leo and Myles Fitzgerald are one of 27 sets of brothers playing collegiate hockey this season and Friday became the second known set of triplets ever to play college hockey. They follow Brian, Craig and Glen Seabury, who played for UMass-Lowell in 1989-90. The Fitzgeralds opened 2014-15 as the Beavers third forward line. Brendan Harms netted two goals in the Oct. 10 win, marking the second multi-goal game of the sophomore s career. Harms opened the seasons with the first short-handed goal of his career. In 38 games last season, BSU netted just two short-handed goals. Markus Gerbrandt added a goal and an assist in the Oct. 10 victory, marking the seventh multi-point game of his career. Last season he tied Matt Prapavessis with a team-leading six multi-point games. Freshman Michael Bitzer made 25 saves en route to a victory in his collegiate debut in net Oct. 10. He was 19-19-6 last season in 51 games with the Lincoln Stars of the NAHL. The Moorhead, Minn. native and 2012 Frank Brimsek Award as Minnesota s top high school goaltender, posted 3.17 goals against average and a.903 save percentage a year ago. The last BSU goaltender to earn a win in his collegiate debut was Andrew Walsh, who made 17 saves versus Michigan Tech in relief of Dan Bakkala, Oct. 11, 2011. Walsh opened his senior season making 30 saves and held the UND power-play unit scoreless on six attempts in a 2-1 loss to No. 2 North Dakota Oct. 11. Oct. 10, sophomore Ruslan Pedan posted an assist on Harms power-play goal. Last season, the defender led BSU netting 10 (3g-7a) of his 13 points (3g-10a) on the man advantage. Matt Prapavessis logged the first assist of his senior season Oct. 10. He collected a career-high 17 assists last season to lead the team in assist scoring. His 22 points (5g-17a) placed him third on the team while he led all BSU defensemen in scoring. Five Beavers made their collegiate debuts last Oct. 10-11 including: Michael Bitzer in net, blueliner Brett Beauvais and forwards, Jordan Heller, Myles, Gerry and Leo Fitzgerald. Beauvais, M. Fitzgerald and G. Fitzgerald each notched their first collegiate points Oct. 11, when Myles posted a powerplay goal with assists from brother Gerry and Beauvais. BSU was 2-for-11 (.182) on the power-play to open the season, but managed to get a goal on the man advantage in each game. BSU finished the 2013-14 season 23-for-158 on the power-play (.146), while it was 18-for-122 (.148), ninth in WCHA play. The BSU penalty-kill unit snuffed out 9-of-10 (.900) UND man advantage opportunities in the series. BSU finished the 2013-14 season 139-of-162 (.858). Bemidji State is 1-1-0 versus teams ranked among the nations s top 15 this season after splitting with then-no. 2 North Dakota Oct. 10-11. BSU was 1-8-3 versus the top 15 in 2013-14. BSU has compiled an all-time record of 1,015-548-109 (.640) in 1,672 games. 2014-15 BEAVER HOCKEY 1
