Council Updates Chapter Updates Upcoming Events October 2014 Omega Monthly Newsletter for Fraternity and Sorority Life at Wichita State University Shocktoberfest 2014 Greeks were Jammin with campus traditions Bunnies, ducks, birds, coyotes, aliens and even grandma s could be found under the historic Orpheum Theatre s roof Saturday, October 25. No, it was not for an early Halloween party, rather for Student Activities Council s Songfest competition. Songfest has become a highlight of one of the oldest campus traditions, Shocktoberfest. Students danced and lip-synched to this year s Shocktoberfest theme: Space Jam. The event was hosted by Alpha Phi Alpha s very own, Joseph Shepard. Songfest was not the only Shocktoberfest event. Greek members also decorated banners for the banner competition, ate breakfast with President Bardo, showed off their basketball skills at the 3v3 basketball tournament, collected over 5,000 cans to donate and supported their fellow Shocker volleyball team on their victory against Loyola. Competing teams were judged in of the Shocktoberfest events and the winners were announced during Songfest. Congratulations to the women of Delta Gamma and the men of Sigma Phi Epsilon for winning this year s overall Shocktoberfest trophy in the women s and men s division. all

Panhellenic Council Our chapters have been buzzing with Big-Little reveals, philanthropy events and preparation for initiation. Alpha Phi held their initiation on October 25. Gamma Phi Beta's initiation will take place on November 16. Delta Delta Delta and Kappa Kappa Gamma's initiations will take place on November 8. Delta Gamma's initiation will take place on November 17th. The Panhellenic Council also has three Panhellenic Council sisters participating in the Alpha Phi Alpha Inc. 2014 Miss Black and Gold pageant. We wish Lydia Korte and Amanda Johnson of Delta Gamma and Kori Visor of Alpha Phi good luck as they compete to be crowned Miss Black and Gold on November 15. The Habitat for Humanity Women's Build was a success. Thank you to those who participated. We loved seeing all the dedication and hard work our WSU Greek women put into the build. Elections for Panhellenic positions are coming up. Applications will be available November 1 and due November 12. Please keep an eye on our social media for more information! Interfraternity Council IFC is continuing to improve our fraternity recruitment process with the help of David Stollman. This fall for IFC recruitment we have had 153 bid cards turned in. Last year we were at 149 Our new member survey will be distributed to new members of every chapter by the end of this week. The focus of the survey is to understand the reasons why members chose their fraternity, as well as why they did not choose others they visited. This information will be beneficial to both IFC and our individual chapters. Our first ever IFC Mom s Day Mixer will be held Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Heskett Center. We will hold a free self-defense class! Aunts and Grandmothers are welcome as well. RSVP by 11/5. Multicultural Greek Council The Multicultural Greek Council continues to make strides, making positive change within our council and in the Greek Community, and growing as a whole. During this year s Shockertoberfest, we competed in the Hunger Game s Canned Food event, sponsored by the Student Activities Council and Community Service Board. We worked together as a council and created WSU MGC Castle and we happily took second place! We will be partnering with the Community Service Board with to co-sponsor a volunteer event at the Exploration Place on November 15. Volunteers will have the opportunity to help with check-in, build gingerbread houses and more! Last month, we announced we were beginning the process of chartering a Latina Sorority here on campus. The name of the interest group is LATINA (Latina Interest Association). These ladies are working diligently as they meet every week and have begun working on chair positions. We could not be more excited about their growth thus far. On October 29, the ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. had their New Member Presentation and three new ladies entered their sisterhood. We could not be happier to welcome these ladies into our council and cannot wait to see them grow as members of the Greek community. Make sure you are on the lookout as our council continues to grow. As many of our chapters increase their membership, welcome the new members into their organizations and come support them at their New Member Presentations.
